I enjoyed levelling as Balance to 50 (not picked her up again yet), found it to be some really good aoe, but also solid against single targets, especially once you get the execute proc in the 40s. However YMMV depending on your feelings towards dot classes.
I'm now level 30ish (double xp! hooray!) on my infiltration shadow, and unfortunately the playstyle just isn't clicking for me. It seems to be just "attack until force breach is up, then breach" and the animations and sounds aren't as satisfying as other classes (notably operative). I'm not sure if (like sentinel) it suddenly picks up later down the track after certain powers are unlocked or if it's just a bad pick. Are the other specs radically different?
The conventional wisdom (which I agree with) is that low-level Shadows are more fun as tank spec, even if you intend to play DPS at higher levels. You're sturdier, you have more AoE, your questing DPS isn't terrible, and you're generally safe running your companions as DPS. Your FP queue times will also be super-short.
So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.

Darth became such a weird thing in the expanded universe.
In SWTOR it's a rank that means you're one of the 12 sith on the council. You meet about 200 hundred of said sith.
Saw this in the TFA thread, which had moved on quite a ways by the time I read it, and Tube, you're mistaken. Though I admit the game isn't entirely clear.
Lord: Someone who's a full-fledged Sith, not an apprentice. (Since they're often still in service to their teacher--assuming they didn't have them discreetly assassinated--the difference may seem cosmetic, but it's usually awarded after some sort of major achievement.) A Sith Lord may take a new name, or be given one by their master, to represent their promotion.
Darth: A Sith Lord recognized (and often given a new name if they haven't chosen their own one yet) by the Dark Council for their cunning, knowledge, and/or power.
Dark Lord: A member of the Dark Council. Are almost always Darths.
e.g. As a Sith Inquisitor, you're Lord Zash's apprentice. Zash serves Darth Skotia, who serves Darth Thanaton. Thanaton is on the Council; Skotia is not.
Hey, anyone who has Nico Okarr, can you still get the achievement for finishing his unlock quest if you use his unlock token on a different character? I want to unlock him on my smuggler so I don't have to use corso, but I don't want to be locked out of the cheevo on my other characters.

Oh yeah. The unlock token only counts per character.

Today is the start of bounty hunter week. Except it's not, because like the rakghoul event, it's busted and not planned to be fixed this month.

Soooo should I pick my Commando back up at 47 or just do the boost to start the new content? I got up to Act 3 of the original game way back when.
If you haven't done the Rise Of The Hutt Cartel and Shadow Of Revan storylines before, it's best to go through them before starting Fallen Empire as the previous two plot-expansion stories will be locked off once you do and Shadow Of Revan in particular sets up events in Fallen Empire as well as introduce certain characters.

And if you're already in Act 3, it probably won't take more then a few hours to knock out all of the story quests.
I persevered with infiltration shadow, it becomes a lot more fun once you get the backstab procs
I remember thinking it slow and boring at the start but then started liking it once I got some of the important procs and abilities
anyway finished the sith inquisitor story and man what a total shitshow, probably the worst of the 7 stories I finished so far
start of really strong, the prologue is great, but then it just starts being worse and worse
like I still don't understand why exactly the guy wanted to kill me all of chapter 2 and 3, just because zash died? this seems like a pretty stupid policy but whatever. my character was a moron and ghost grampa flat out tells me I'm an idiot when I go completely unprepared into some tomb again. then there is chapter 3 the first two planets of which are trying to fix what i did in chapter two. the moff thing was also awful, I liked the idea behind it, but the execution was awful, I just get called randomly some day by him and he tells me that we are BFFs now, great... why isn't my character trying to get people on his side instead of just waiting for random support? it really didn't feel like I earned my place on the dark council, I just kinda stumble over some ghost and random moffs

Thanaton's problem is that you're Zash's apprentice and he doesn't like her, feeling she spits once too often in the face of proper Sithdom. So you're unfortunately tainted by being connected to her and have to be squashed for the good of Sith and the Empire everywhere.
Hey, quick question. Do I need to do these stupid recruitment quests for that bastard lizard and Pierce? Because fuck PVP and killing world bosses. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything important by ignoring this poorly designed bullshit.
Also digging the new story line. Even if 90% of it is running down a corridor.

Currently Pierce is not currently blocking anything, but Qyzen's mission must be finished to open up the opportunity to recruit someone else. That someone's recruitment mission also requires a particular monthly event to be active in order to complete it.
Specifically,
Dr. Lokin is the companion, and the Rahghoul event needs to be active in order to get into those Rakghoul tunnels
Coming to the end of chapter two of the consular plot. So far I love it, because it feels like A Day In The Life Of A Jedi. You go on diplomatic missions! You talk to people! It's not all super weapons and legendary sith. I feel like it's what the class actually promised, where the sith equivalent never does any damn inquisiting.

Yeah, but the Sith version of the Consular day in the life is pretty much just laughing maniacally while shooting lightning at people.
I apparently have 4600 Cartel Coins on my very old account.
Is there anything absolutely necessary to buy or is it mostly just cosmetic choices?
There are a few things that really up the convenience factor of the game and are well worth getting. Rocket boost gives you a quick speed boost for those areas where you can't mount on a vehicle. It's also best to get the max cooldown unlock for rocket boost, if you're going to get it. Other really good convenience options are maxed legacy travel and maxed legacy fleet pass. Maxing legacy travel means you can use quick travel without cooldown. Maxed legacy fleet pass means you can use the fleet pass without a cooldown. There's a few other things in the "other" section of the legacy unlocks window that you might look into, but those are the big three.
Getting the rocket boost and quick travel (I don't use fleet travel enough for it to be worthwhile) are the most important things in my opinion.

Rocket Boost is the most important thing.
Opening extra bank slots account wide is something I recommend as well if you're a pack rat like me.
Also, if you like pretty lightsabers, you can unlock each cartel color crystal for 60 coins once it's in your possession. I've used that...more than I should.

inq chapter 2 felt really directionless and bad, and then it isn't really redeemed in chapter 3
I do really like the inq speech at the end of the corellia chain, though
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
