The one I went to the Korean place with a couple weeks back? And she brought me pastries from her trip?

She used to sing in a black metal band
She builds and paints Viking-style shields
She wants to start training for the WWE
I'm in some real trouble here, folks

It's a shame I didn't get to know her better back when we were at school together

    It's also a real shame

    About that boyfriend of hers

god damnit GG, I made an audible groan at the end of this post

Hey so I think it was the last thread I said that I had drunkenly bantered my way into a date with a Brazilian expat

Anyway we dated and she is the best and we've been dating for a month and I might drunkenly be in love

She asked about something I don't usually share and I told her about my 8-year MMO addiction

Her response? A pic of her holding her D20s.

    Fuckin amazin 'k

Huh, I missed this love thread for almost two weeks. Go figure!

Love thread, I'm being irrationally anxious about my beautiful fiance because we just got a new cat and we have to keep them separated at night because they like to bite each others faces which means I've been sleeping on the couch so the one cat doesn't whine and scratch at the bedroom door.

It's a comfortable couch! But I miss seeing her adorable sleeping face when I wake up in the morning, and she hasn't been missing me in the bed (because I sleep poorly and constantly toss and turn, whatever, she snores.)

Everything is good but I'm needlessly anxious.

Also gotta plan a wedding but it's so much work and uuuugh.

Don't be! That is a beautiful solitary wasp. Unlike her yellow jacket cousins, she's quite unlikely to sting unless you really harass her.

    Are they?

I'm sure it's actually rubbish, but I thought I read somewhere that ecologists aren't exactly sure what mosquitoes are good for and that it may be a net positive if it were somehow possible to eradicate them.

I'm good with mosquitoes, but I'll admit I'm not fond of the typical household roaches

Other roaches, like the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, are fine by me

A quick google search turns up this as the source. The gist is more or less that removing mosquitoes would have some impact on the ecosystem, but there's disagreement as to how much and whether or not it would be worth the changes in exchange for the human health benefits.

At any rate, the total eradication of mosquitoes is impossible anyway, at least for now.

There was a paper that asserted this but it made a LOT of very dubious assumptions. Got a lot of media traction though, so it'll be half-remembered as fact for basically ever.

And if there's anything I'm good at, it's half-remembering things.

But yeah, a statement like that definitely sets off the "dubious assertion" alarms, but goodness me mosquitoes are bad enough that it'd be nice if it were true and feasible. (Which, yeah, even if it were wiping out such a prolific insect species seems basically impossible.)

Wasn't this specifically about the Anopheles mosquito

That mosquito is already subject to extensive control measures in places where it is a vector for malaria and there are the necessary funds

I think the main mistake is the assumption that eradicating malaria would require such radical steps as bringing a bunch of prolific insect species to extinction, there are places where Anopheles mosquitoes are still present but they do not carry the disease

I went to look that up and...
    Anopheles /əˈnɒfɨliːz/[1] (Greek anofelís: "useless"[2])

Huh. Anyway, this is what I remember reading, and indeed it's based on the article Bugboy linked.

Me and @SilverWind had our wedding anniversary yesterday

It was very nice and relaxed. We went to Sushi on Bloor and ate half their stock, then went to Ed's Real Scoop for the best ice cream I know of. I had the Maple Walnut, she had half Burnt Marshmallow and half Coffee Toffee in a waffle cone.

We don't really celebrate our wedding anniversary; we celebrate when we started dating, but everybody bugs the piss out of us with well-wishes so I figured we should go do something

They perform some rudimentary pollination that plants depend on, and are a major food source for a lot of things.

Scientists have genetically engineered sterile male mosquitos that, when they mate with female mosquitos, produce a batch of eggs that won't hatch. And since only female mosquitos suck blood, this would be an effective way of causing a mosquito genocide.

But, again, suddenly change a part of the ecosystem and the consequences could be far reaching.

Yeah I don't really think you can necessarily read anything out of kissing necessarily

Like, sometimes you just wanna make out with someone, and there's nothing more to it than that

It's certainly an indication that they find you attractive and are willing to let you inside their bubble, but "on the right track" is probably the wrong line to take there
