Heads up for those playing on the pee-cee: an enterprising hacker released a fix that, among other things, fixes the fullscreen rendering resolution issue. It also contains an alternative framelimiter that may or may not make a difference for you (it does seem less stuttery to me anyway).
There's also a movie fix out there supposedly. Haven't tried it yet because the manual method looks annoying and the "here's my files" method means a large download and the guy's still uploading copies:
So if one was to choose between a regular non-pro PS4 and playing the PC port on a solid gaming PC with a controller which version of the game would be the better experience?
I've heard the PC Port has some terrible texture pop in problems, memory leak problems and weird frame rate issues with the cutscenes.
I'm about 15 hours into the game and I've been playing it at 1440p, maxed settings, and it looks and runs fine. I mean, it is capped at 60fps (30 in cutscenes), so that may be a problem for some people for whatever reason.
I can't say that I've noticed any pop-in or memory leaks.
The only issue I know of for certain is the 1080p upscaling thing, but that doesn't affect 1440p so I don't care.
Edit: oh, from that reddit thread I have seen this one:
"Intermittent Mouse Cursor: mouse flashes in and out randomly during game play."
Once in a while after loading a save the mouse cursor will just be stuck in the middle of the screen for a minute or two. And if I go in and out of the Steam overlay a bunch, sometimes the cursor pops back on the screen and I have to move it off to one side until it goes away.
The only performance issues on PS4 I've noticed are occasional frame rate stuttering in the overworld. You can probably get significantly better performance on PC, but it sounds like you'll have to work at it a little bit.

I haven't noticed anything but then I'm terrible at noticing that.
But are you sure you're not mixing that up with the way she trips through all the bushes? :P
The texture pop in is caused by the AA and AO settings conflicting with each other. Just turn one off. AA probably because the AO includes some post processing that seems to help with jaggies anwyay, and it's easier to inject external AA if you need it.
The cut scene judder issue is the big killer for me given the story focus. I've downloaded that mod to fix it but haven't encountered a lengthy enough cut scene to tell if it worked or not yet.

Nah there's def slowdown on PS4. I'm also terrible at noticing that and am one of those folks that can't tell 60fps from 30 but I've noticed the slowdown. Now it still doesn't bother me even slightly but it's there.

That would be why I haven't noticed it then. I don't use the in-game AA.
Any recommendations on which weapon to buy first at the resistance camp? Ancient Overlord looks to be really good with the +Crit after upgrading, but would having two short swords be less than ideal?

two short swords seems pretty strong. lots of potential dps.
aside from the crit bonus, ancient overlord also gets bullet rupture at rank 4, and that's a really strong ability in the late game.

The AA in this game is actually MSAA which is a performance killer. I turned off AA and once I remember to ill downsample it for those silky smooth edges

So I picked this up on the PC over the weekend. Normally, I don't like games like this; the last game I played that is sort of similar (I guess?) is Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
I played through the "prologue" last night, and it was fun... but I can't help but have some questions. I don't think these are specific to this game, but just general advice questions:
1. How does "dodge" work? Like, I press RT and she moves fast. I assume it's timing based; do I just hit it at the right time and take no damage?
2. I spent a lot of time using LT/RB to use the range attacks, especially on the bosses. It feels like I was doing it wrong?
I always feel so awkward playing a game like "Nier" because I never know really what's going on. I know that's probably be design but there's so many mechanics and the game keeps switching modes and camera angles on you to start that it's all a bit overwhelming. I'm hoping that it explains things a bit better as I play?

Dodge just dodges in the direction you push. If you time it right against an impending attack, you'll go into sort of a matrix mode and time will slow, then you can follow up with a counter, depending on which button you press. If you didn't dodge an attack, it just functions as an evade movement in a particular direction. And yes, you move faster after using it, so it's useful in open world areas to move faster.
In the early game, your range attacks aren't that powerful. You'll always do more damage with your weapon attacks. Doesn't mean your ranged attacks aren't useful, especially when destroying projectiles shot at you.

When you dodge with perfect timing you get an animation confirmation and a counter attack that allows you to air juggle or kick something really far (depends on the weapons I think). RB and LB are your range attack and there's no real reason not to abuse then AFAIK.
Tap RT to dodge at the last moment before an attack and 2b will "Split" into 4 flashy images nullify the attack and allow a unique follow up attack depending on what you hit after. Like using the pod attack will do a powerful shotgun blast, using melee from a short sword will attempt a launch attack, etc.
There's a handful of bosses that yeah, during certain phases you're just gonna be spamming shots at them, though typically most will have a "time to melee me" phase too.

The giant construction crane thing? In the water?
So I haven't had time to full explore the game yet so I'm sure more will be revealed. I just get nervous that, not playing these types of games, I'm playing them "wrong."

If you didn't manually save, you will have to start the game over from the beginning.

That I *did* do; I think it said something about it auto-saving when I launched. So I made sure to.
I hadn't played Nier or Drakengard, but I heard about the "canon ending" for D3 and the notes while hacking the factory pretty much directly stated that the dragon spread some kind of disease to Earth?

Morninglord: when you do the first jump hold the button down
Morninglord: the second it doesn't matter
Morninglord: you just need to hold it down for the first
Morninglord: the second you can jump and then hold it later, since you can't cancel twice

You know putting aside the fact that her costume seems tailor made for panty flashing, I think 2B's design and movement just oozes style. I love playing as her.

Can tolerate 30 fps 900p videos, but the judder on them on PC was really hard to take.
I mean jeez you can even plug a PS4 controller into your PC if that's important to you.
