So holy shit, just got past the intro of playthrough B and
it really recorded me setting up the options. Wow.
I feel incredibly, strangely creeped out by this.
So funny thing about that
I actually had to leave to take my dogs outside for a few minutes right when the game was making me adjust brightness settings. So when I got to that part, I had to just sit and wait for about 10 minutes to pass until the game would continue on.
Apparently, I had the worst timing in the world.
I think I
checked my phone or something near the end of that sequence. There was about a minute of nothing while I waited for my previous self to just hit Accept.
It was pretty great realizing it actually had been recorded "for posterity".
Mine took longer for a different reason.
I was trying all the options and finding the various dialog easter eggs. The vibration ones are hilarious once you get to 9S's playthough.

Do the Easter eggs only appear during the in game configuration?

Yes.
Specifically, it's taking forever to confirm the audio volume as he gets embarrassed constantly trying to get 2B's attention. Refusing to turn on self destruct multiple times. And adjusting the vibration and 2B saying she can't feel anything up to four times where 9S goes from a light tap to try and touching bolder places and then eventually thinking 2B has to be fucking with him.
They're bonus 9S/2B dialog. And you see 9S's inner thoughts during them second playthough.
Just FYI if no one noticed. Never seen him do this, but Jim Sterling posted ANOTHER video about NieR Automata after getting all the endings, calling it the best game this year so far, and potentially the most important title for gaming so far this generation. It's marked having BIG spoilers, so don't watch if you're not through with the game, but I'm floored that the game got Jim to post another video JUST to gush about the endings.

Did anyone get the PC version on Steam? I saw a non specific tweet saying the port was badly handled and the source is questionable (super high standards) to begin with.

I haven't had any issues with the PC port. I have some minor complaints. Cutscenes are locked at 30 FPS and AA should be turned completely off. I get good performance and never drop below 60 FPS outside of that, though. I do have to play with a controller, do not attempt to play this game with KBAM. The Steam Controller sucks for this game, play with a PS4/Xbox controller. When I alt-tab, it comes out of fullscreen and I have to go back into the menu and set it back to fullscreen, which sucks; no fullscreen windowed mode.
Over all, I would say it is a decent to good port with some minor complaints. Compared to other recent PC ports, it's like a dream.

That bolded point is a thing I hate most about games but I've dealt with it before so I can do it again in this case. Otherwise everything you've detailed isn't that big of a deal. So, okay cool, I'm still down to get this.

It runs great for me using either the FAR mod to enable proper rendering for the fullscreen option, or running borderless while using the Borderless Gaming program. I'm still having issues getting ReShade 3.0 to work with the FAR mod, so I've given up on that and am just playing on windowed now.
I'm also running with only Ambient Occlusion on but everything at the highest settings at 1440p with a 1080, and it's a buttery smooth 60fps outside of the prerendered 30fps cutscenes. The in game AA is highly demanding and I have it turned off since AO already has some built in AA.
A news update was posted a little earlier today saying that the Platinum is aware of the issues and are working on solutions, so a patch could be coming in the near future for people who'd rather not deal with using mods and external programs in order to get proper fullscreen rendering.
All of the controller button prompts are for a Xbox controller, but there is a texture pack that will reskin the buttons with Playstation icons if you'd rather use a PS4 controller.

I play it with the Steam controller just fine. I mean, I've yet to encounter the game where the Steam controller wasn't superior (once configured for that game) to a 360 controller, so there's that, I guess. I haven't touched my 360 controller in so long now I'm not even sure I could say where I tossed it.

I tried both and the bullet hell portions were a bit of a pain with the right trackpad.
Reclaimed a 360 controller from my CNC machine before continuing on.
Granted it could have been made better with a bit of tweaking.

I'm just loving the fact next time we hit a drought I'll have Yakuza 0 and Horizon: Zero Dawn to get (hopefully discounted by then), because I know there's just not enough time for them now!
Long gone are the days where I'd go "Eh...I guess I'll try "Wet", there's nothing else right now."

I haven't been playing this game for very long and I'm only just past the forest.
So I stumble upon an animal-loving machine and
decide to spare his animals because I'm not a complete monster.
Anyways, upon completing that, I noticed the music changed to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzABV5ugAOY
and I was just wandering around the forest absolutely loving this song. Seriously, it fit the scenery so well I didn't want to move on. I became very annoyed when I reached a certain point in the forest which prompted the song to stop and got angry that there wasn't a music selection device I could access in game.

GET ON IT, PLATINUM.
There's a jukebox at the Resistance Camp you can listen to any music on.
I finished route A last night. That was a solid ending, and I was surprised to find that I liked it was only about 15 hours from start to finish. It made it feel more like a short story, instead of a movie.
This is my first Taro game, so I don't know what I was expecting from multiple endings/routes, but the first hour or so of B was not it (in the best way). I'm really looking forward to playing more, instead of being bored with replaying it.
Alright, can somebody tell me if I'm doing something wrong? I just spent the better part of an hour killing a gold tank and a gold short stubby machine. Am I stumbling on some late game content? Should I just come back later with stronger weapons and higher levels?

If you can't hurt it save it for later.
Super. Just want to make sure they're going to be there when I come back for them later with lvl 4 weapons.
Scratch that. If the two golden giants and short stubby are still gonna be there, since I killed the tank.

I don't know if I've ever had that mix of amazing gameplay, which pushes me forward doing awesome things and loving what I'm doing - combined with, honestly, horror and terror as the music, the dialogue and just the world around me descended into pure, unsettling, chaos.
It was a hell of an experience going through that the first time.

This seems like as close to what I want as this game is gonna give me.
Ending C
Just redo the final fight as 9S via chapter select.
Trust me, it's good.
I prefer C to D but E builds on them, it doesn't overwrite them.
Ending C
I kind of hate mentally-shattered-9S though? Not his playstyle. Him. I don't want to play as him.
Ending C
I get that! But you just need to play him for the thirty seconds it takes to beat 2A to get D, and then you're into E which is an astoundingly good finish to the game.
