Yeah, hold jump-button to glide. Pressing an attack while gliding can make a little kick. You can even fire while gliding.
You can parachute from any height, but you only get one go per jump, so you'll eat shit if you cancel it too many times and run out.
Jump-button and fire-button together is a different kind of pod-move.
Jump followed quickly by heavy is a juggle.
The thing you will find yourself abusing is perfect dodge. Where you attack just after you get the dodge feedback (your char creates doppelgangers). I hit the pod attack button (which spawns a grenade) since I don't have the coordination to conditionally pick the optimal attack.
Oh, swipe the touchpad. Do that. Just from one side to the other should be good enough.
You can emulate this on the PC by rapidly moving the mouse in small tight circles. Unfortunately the 360 controller can't do an equivalent. :bigfrown: .
Let's be honest though - I don't think that's going to really break speedrunning wide open or anything. The game controls so much with quest flags that getting places early is unlikely to do anything for you.
Clicking the left?? side of the touchpad is the most convenient way to use buff-items.
Pod-switching works in flight-units, so you can actually use three bombs in succession.

I haven't had a chance to get it myself yet,
but people on NeoGAF were talking about the original Emil dying in it.
I read some vague overviews of the plot for ending Y and I don't see how that's the case. You're still dealing with the vendor Emil right? It's not like another one shows up?
The vendor specifically says he has no idea what happened to the original. And I know in the fight Emil mentions Kaine and stuff, but I kind of took that as the battle and lunar tear stuff sparking what was in his memory from being a clone. I didn't see or read anything that implies he's the original.
Then again I didn't play it. But does that sound like it's the case?

Hey, I have a question about this game. I'm just a few hours into it. Is there a major reason to do the side quests in the game, or something big you miss out on by not doing so? So far the side quests all seem like the kind of stuff I don't want to bother with. The game is pretty fun so far, just some of the side quests are very fetch questy without much payoff.

Other than XP, you can get some hard-to-find materials for weapon upgrades from the quests.

The actions of the sidequests do tend to be mundane drudgery, but they all generally provide intriguing story points and useful gear. That said, the core of the game does not demand that you undertake any of them in order to complete it.

Wait until you open up fast travel from doing the main quest, then doing them is pretty trivial.
That's a good point. I'm at the point now where I started to feel like I wish I could fast travel more freely, and looked it up and saw that I'm going to open up the expanded fast travel. I don't know how far I am from that, but I think I will go ahead and just stick to the main story until I do and then go back and deal with more side quests.

Nope, some of the copies of himself he made have gone crazy, that's all. In fact, you win by reminding them of who he used to be.
Thinking about picking this up on PC...some reviews were less than kind of the port. Does it work alright on KBAM? I have a 360 controller lying around I could use too, but I typically stick to KBAM where possible.

While you can play with a keyboard this is a game designed to be played with a controller. If you can effectively play these kinds of games with a KBAM have at it, and you always have the 360 controller as a backup.
You'll also want to get the FAR mod for PC which allows higher than 60 FPS in the main game, proper fullscreen rendering, removes all stuttering in cutscenes (which also run at 60 FPS but that might be tied to me setting my frame rate at 143), and allows you to tweak a few global lighting settings to improve performance. Yeah it would be preferable if the game didn't need a mod for that stuff, and the game will still run fine without it.
i don't know if i'm just hitting the limits of my own skill, or if i should really be putting more effort into getting my chip loadout perfect, but Route C on Hard is just beating the ever-living tar out of me. The first boss that you end up fighting, i had to bump the difficulty back down to Normal (after dying about a dozen times), and even still i was having a bit of a hard go of it. i'm going to have to figure out where i'm screwing up, because outside the bosses, the fights you get into running around are well too easy on Normal.
I like max hp up/resilience/anti chain damage/auto heal/offensive heal for defenses. I don't know whether you can get them yet, but evasive system and bullet detonation are good too.
Max hp up in particular has kind of a multiplicative effect on your durability, because it makes auto heal and your items recover more, and you can take more damage before resilience breaks. Use the biggest one you have, and then fit in the other stuff.
I think that particular boss might be a bit overpowered, though.
Hrmm...haven't really looked at HP buffs. My build has been Melee, Crit, and Movement, mostly. i'll have to play around with it some.
One thing i've been wondering. The chip that displays the sound graph, does that have any purpose at all? i bought it and tried it out, and it just seemed...there.

It has exactly one purpose that I know of, to get one optional thing in the game, and you don't even need it to get that if you know where to look.
It's to Nier: Automata's credit that I tended to do the sidequests for the text of the events rather than any mechanical considerations. Once you get past the introductory "this is what a sidequest looks like in this game" tutorial quests, most of them wind up showing you how fucked up the androids' lives are, information you'll only fully understand in retrospect once the plot moves forward, or some legitimately funny sight gags. They're what side-quests ought to be, even if they wind up being a bear ass hunt mechanically more often than not.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

It led me to the missile pod in the desert
Oh, that's okay then. i did that ages back. It just seemed like an interesting bit of filigree, but darnit, i need that slot for something that's going to get enemies dead.
yeah that boss was total bullshit. I don't know if it was just poorly designed or what but it was easily the most unfun part of the game so far. maybe the only part, besides the crippling depression
@Cromarty Thanks for the tip, yeah! i respec'ed into a little more HP, and it made a huge difference. The difficulty level is tough but managable now, and it's swung back to fun.
Well...fun for certain definitions thereof, i mean, for fuck's sakes Route C, get your cleats off of my heart for a second, will ya?
you can also try using Berserk Mode. Rather than self-destructing when you click both sticks, A2 goes into a rage mode where she does additional damage while draining HP rapidly. Since they bring it up during the dialog, it may be that they expect you to use it to knock out several of the pieces quickly, which would make the bullet spray from the rest more manageable.

Yeah, but
When one hit takes off 90% of your health, you don't get all that much out of it. Basically, i'd go into BMode, get a few hits in, take one from Hegel and die. Even in Normal it hits for a good wallop. Now, i know, get good and all that, but it wasvstill hella frustrating

Holding light or heavy attack is also distinct moves. Abandoning some charged heavy attacks early is a distinct move.
Forward-dashing aerial heavy attack is usually a steep dive of some sort, faster than falling.
Tap selfdestruct to offset or cancel things.
Rapidly clicking L3 counts as a taunt, because it's a lightswitch.

That's Sonic level of broken right there. I wish I would have tried that post-game.
