Yeah, played for about an hour at lunch. Can't really tell if I like this game or not. It sure is pretty, but man do I suck at this thing. I swear I'm blocking to their attacking side, but I get hit..
Think I just need to stick to practicing against bots until I can figure out wtf I'm doing.

Free is a good price point to get new players in. Unless the release game is also free, there's no way of telling how much of that will translate to the actual game release. For example, I've downloaded the beta myself. I'll give it a shot tonight or this weekend sometime, but I'm only about 10% likely to buy it. It's just not my kind of game - but I'll certainly try it for free!

Although good practice, the bots are actually a lot better than most players are at this point so you may find a better experience getting into some 1v1 duels and just working on it there.

Check to make sure your in full screen and not windowed. Mine started in windowed and was running like poo poo until I changed it to full screen.

It crashed on me in windowed so I went and played it on PS4 (I had downloaded both just in case). My PSN is g0oseyourself if anyone else is playing later (controller died after a few rounds).
Though I would like to humorously note that pretty much everyone will cry foul in brawl if you don't let every fight go 1 on 1, but the first thing anyone does in elim is wolfpack it up.
My stance on Brawl is that if you wanted to play 1v1 you should play the 1v1 mode. Though often I don't want to revenge feed anyway so I will wait but it isn't out of some honor thing it's because feeding revenge to people is silly nonsense.

What kind of foul knave would sully the honor of the glorious combatants locked in a duel?
Even the mere thought brings shame!
Actually I do find it amazing that most people will hang back in 2v2 Brawl and let the last fight play out 1v1 instead of tipping the scales with numbers.
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
Though I DO wish the game had more of a Rocket Arena type mode, where you could have 8 players rotating between individual 1v1 matches in smaller/locked arenas or something where you rotate through and get to play other people more quickly.
Someone tried insulting me for "interrupting" a 1v1 in 2v2. I laughed on voice while I murdered the last remaining opponent. Duel is that way, fella. I'm not sitting around not playing the game because you want to ascribe some arbitrary rules to the game. I didn't deal in that nonsense in Dark Souls PvP and I'm damn sure not doing it here. Come at me, suckas.
alright downloading the patch.
I put my steam and uplay names in my sig finally.

Thankfully, to my sensibilities, this mindset is rare.
About the only times (and they're very few) where I'll see someone jump in to someone else's fight is either in the first round or the fifth.
In my experience when it happens in the first round the original enemy typically disengages from combat and stands back til his buddy gets killed. Come the second round the other guy learned his lesson.
In the fifth round it happens when they get hungry for victory. Though if my game lasts all the way to the fifth round I typically expect shenanigans.
Though don't get me wrong, I won't call foul for people fighting dirty, they just need to be prepared to receive in kind and not bitch about it. Which, I kid you not, has happened.

Interesting. The Conqueror has an auto block component to his basic hard attacks. Right now conq and zerker are my two. Zerker has some interesting stuff that isnt obvious, like stamina damage on grabs etc. Also this is gonna take some time, to get used to the right stick activity on zerker especially.
Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
Smith and I just had an amazing series against two other guys, it was very evenly matched and we would actually do 1v1s because it simply was so much fun fighting against these guys. At the very end, for our last game, we were 2 and 2, final match and it actually ended in a tie. Perfect ending.

It's not fighting dirty. It's 2v2. Not double duel. The part about people jumping into a fight in progress then whining when you do it is absurd to me, though I do believe when you say it happened. People are weird.

If you don't double up in a 2v1, in my mind you're depriving them of an opportunity to make an awesome comeback.
Can't wait until my little one goes down for sleep so I can play this.

If you want to duel, there is a mode called duel.
If you don't want to have the potential of a 2v1... don't play the 2v2 mode.
I'd be incredibly disappointed in any so called teammate that wouldn't have my back in 2v2.
Is it so hard to click on the mode dedicated to the way you actually want to play?
So I decided to jump into the open beta, just to give me some idea of what the game is like after watching so many videos. I was so hyped. I logged in and immediately did the tutorials. Okay, I got this. Seems easy enough with all this Dark Souls experience behind me. Chose Peacekeeper for my first 1v1 bot match. Did pretty good...for the first 8 seconds. Then I was getting farmed by a freakin' bot. Using the right analog stick for anything but camera movement is totally wrecking my coordination for some reason.
I switched to Conqueror after an hour or so of quiet contemplation in a different room. Started out a bit shaky, but after about death #12 or 14 (I can't really remember, honestly) I started to gain advanced motor skills in my right hand. Is this what getting old feels like? Please tell me it's just this game. I do alright in most fights...except anything from the samurai faction. I can't seem to anticipate their movement. Any other fight usually goes my way with decisive blocking and counter-attacking with the occasional flail swinging around menacingly. I've learned to use the 'block everything' mode (R3) to get out of really sticky situations. I have zero situational awareness and am constantly getting t-boned by other players.
I'm not very good at this game...heh.

Liking it so far, although the mechanics feel somewhat clunky.
On PC. It's like a very slow and forgiving Bushido Blade, almost...
EDIT: Make that EXTREMELY clunky. Will be fun to dick around with in the beta, but I wouldn't want to buy it.
To clarify - Duels seem fine. But the system feels like it breaks down hard when it gets to the mass melee parts.

I'd be up for practice duels with somebody, or 3 people even, if anybody wants to spar. We could do some 2v2 if I can get my mojo back tonight.

Edit: also, defense is by far my weak spot in this game. I can usually get clean attacks in when a fight starts, but if they can defend that and mount an attack I'm toast. Any class recommendations for that issue? I'm not particularly attached to anybody right now, and I'm weakest with the assassins types
Peacekeeper is my jam so far. Just dodging into attacks for a deflect + grab n stab and they're pretty much dead. I've been cussed out a lot, which I count as a bonus since the biggest complaint is the grab n stab is too strong. Its like... don't get grabbed? Don't spend the entire match running away from every fight? If you run, I get a free grab, because I run faster than you. So glad I preordered.
so hey, im guessing Vanguard is the name of another hero. is that the shield and spear valkyrie from the vikings? or a completely new hero?
because I have a contract that says do 5 elimiations as a Vanguard

Vanguard is the basic Knight on the left. (My fav thus far.)

I've barely touched Dominion, been playing 1v1 and 2v2 Brawl. Peacekeeper is my jam.
At least the game is clearly popular!

Super special anime honor duels have a place in 1v1, and environmental hazards are there for a very good reason.

I wouldn't hold off, and then I'd find a partner that actually wants to play the gamemodes they click on.
