It's funny that Omega Force originally started designing a traditional Zelda game but Nintendo requested a regular Musuo game. I do wonder what they would have brought to the table.
Yeah, I liked reading about that.
And they kept being like, "are you sure? We can really do this with your characters? You don't mind? We were going to portray them kind of traditionally and not introduce too much crazy stuff..." And Nintendo was like "yeah, sure, go nuts! Make the game any way you want! Put a personal spin on it, go crazy, give the characters wild attacks, throw in some new characters, we don't care. We want different."
That's probably due to the fact that the first time KOEI and Nintendo teamed up, KOEI wanted to do a musou game and Nintendo said "No, you're making Nobunaga's Ambition with Pokemon".

After thinking about it for a couple of months, I just bought a 32GB Wii U with Mario Kart and Yoshi's Woolly World. Had a nice surprise when it turned up early in the post this afternoon.
Hopefully I made the right call and Zelda doesn't end up coming out on the NX.
Is it worth getting the higher-capacity battery for the game-pad? The signal range is pretty impressive, I've never managed to get my hands on one before to try it.
Also what Mario game should I get first? New Super Mario Bros. U or 3D World? I mostly finished Land on the 3DS.

Although let it not be said that NSMBU is a bad game.
I could see someone being tired with the formula if they've played all the NSMB games, but even then it adds a lot of new fun stuff that puts it in another league from the past games. If it's the first NSMB you've played in 5-6 years then you'll probably enjoy it! Challenge mode is awesome.

.. it is? I just got a Wii U from a family member who no longer wanted it. I have a couch about 12 feet or so from the unit and if I try to turn on the console from there it won't connect. It says to get within range and turn the controller off and on. Is my controller borked or do you just have to do that to turn it on, then you can move away? I've never tested.

12 feet should be no problem. I can use mine from completely different rooms or floors. My bedroom is the second floor above my living room (and I don't sit directly above the Wii U either) and it works flawlessly.

I'll own Nintendo's next console. There is no question there.
The Wii U will end up being on the same list as the Dreamcast: The system that was criminally under appreciated and had some of the best games of the generation that not enough people played.
next time, I'm not buying one till the Zelda is out (assuming it comes out for said console)
edit: literally every other Nintendo console has had one or more new Zelda's at this point in the life of the console. I'm not holding out much hope for Wii U
Except...that we know Zelda U exists. We saw it last year.
The Wii U already has Windwaker HD, then the new one next year.
So it's pretty much on par with the Wii releases...right? Twilight Princess and then near the end of the console's life Skyward Sword.
The Wii U also has Hyrule Warriors but that technically isn't a standard Zelda game.
Windwaker isn't new though.
Wii launched with Twilight Princess. All other consoles had a new Zelda in a year and a half. I think the Wii U is coming up on 3 years in November and it'll be at least 4 years when (if) it gets a new Zelda.
Twilight Princess was originally designed for the GameCube and was released on it as well. The first Wii original Zelda was Skyward Sword. Which came out 5 years after the Wii launched.
Edit: Also consider that 2016 is Zelda's 30th anniversary. There's no way they would miss that, especially given how big a deal they've made Mario's 30th and Zelda's 25th.

Yeah, it should work to like 30-50 feet with no obstructions. It almost works going to my bedroom 30 feet away going through 2 walls.

Even though TP was designed for the cube, it was still a new Zelda and launched with the Wii

Weird
Mine cuts out if I walk out of the room (less than 20').
Keep in mind it doesn't like to go through people. Our bodies are the worst thing for wireless. So if you are holding it close in front of you and turn around, that alone could kill the connection.
Going from a straight line, it's maybe 20 feet from the system to the bathroom. But in that line it's going through about an inch of cabinet wood, then a dresser, then 4 feet of wall, plus bathroom cabinet doors, and possibly a mirror. With all that, the connection is damn spotty. An inch right and it drops completely, an inch left and it eventually reconnects. Even then, if it's kept perfectly still, it can play for 5 minutes before dropping and never reconnecting unless I move it.
If I move the Wii U about a foot out of the cabinet, so it's no longer going through it, the connection improves drastically. It's still prone to wigging out, but it's no longer so sensitive that inches do it.
To put it succinctly, the less shit the signal has to go through, the better. Because it's damn sensitive to shit.
The Wolfman on
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
Also keep in mind that it's sensitive to interference from other 802.11n (I think?) networks. They operate on the same frequency bands, after all, so if you're sitting in an apartment with tons of WiFi signals nearby, your range will suffer.
Given Nintendo's family friendly leanings, this is a pretty bold move. This could end very very badly, however.
I fully expect stages filled with blocks shaped as dicks.
Or they'll add some other kind of gate for people who want content control. Like you can only download levels that have been up for at least a week with no complaints.
It's nice to see others who love their Wii U so much. Wish I felt the same way. I knew when I got it that it would never have the kind of library my PS3 does. That's ok.... As long as it was a system where I could play an occasional Metroid and Zelda I'd be happy. Yeah, I guess next time I'll wait.
sometimes I'm frustrated with nintendo for not obviously doing more to support their audience
and then I remember they have to answer to people who have never touched a videogame and have no motivation other than profit

Well the stage builder in Smash Bros has not been the source of any great controversy. I'm sure there's been a zillion dick stages. I even made one, a massive stone cock spouting lava. I call it Olympus Glans.

I look at my Wii U collection with more satisfaction than I do at my PS3.
When I think of the PS3 I think of serious, dark and violent 3rd person action games. And occasionally serious, dark and violent 1st person action games. And sequels to serious, dark and violent games.
When I think of my Wii U I think of fun.
And there's nothing wrong with the occasional serious, dark and violent game. But by the end of that generation I was done with it. (And the current gen isn't offering much hope).

I was getting confused by you guys saying there hasn't been any Zelda footage. I was beginning to think that long demo during the Video Game Awards was a hallucination.
