unfortunately, to do that, I'd have to fix it for $100
Which is probably around what I'd get for it. Basically, at this point, I have a really expensive paper weight that I'd have to spend $100 to fix if I wanted to play the non existant games.
(I am aware that the Wii U has many nice games, but I bought it because I wanted to play a new Zelda on a Zelda console)
I feel pretty let down that they couldn't manage a single Zelda title for the Wii U that wasn't just an HD port or a Dynasty Warriors reskin.
Every other console has had at least one Zelda by now and ALL their consoles have had at least one Zelda to themselves to justify (in my mind at least) purchase.

If you'll at best break even (and that's at best), might as well wait to see what happens to Zelda U.

I thought Wind Waker was a great remaster and Hyrule Warriors was fantastic. It does seem weird that we're this far out without a true 3D Zelda game. Though I think Skyward Sword came out at the end of the Wii's lifecycle and probably pushed the next Zelda game further out.
and remember that Twilight Princess, the Gamecube zelda game, came out so late in it's cycle that it also came out on Wii at the same time. This is actually the 3rd zelda game in a row that is coming out at the end or arguably past the end of the console's life cycle.
Why aren't any GameCube games available on the (PAL?) eShop?
I'd love to be able to get rid of my North American Gamecube and Wii, and just go with my PAL Wii U from now on, without missing out on some of that gen's gems.

WW HD is a great remake but it's still a remake
I really disliked Hyrule Warriors. I'm sure it's great but it's not a play style I enjoy and it's definitely not a traditional Zelda
So our SMB3D World disk won't load anymore. The disk itself is clean with no flaws. Don't have any problems with any other disks(and my kids play a ton of other games from disk). So my best bet is to delete 3D World files off the Internal Memory/Storage? Anyone here had the same issue and resolved it? I'm hoping I don't have to delete our save game info...

Absolutely fair. I'm a huge Musou fan and Zelda fan so Hyrule Warriors was perfect for me.
But I do think Skyward Sword really screwed the WiiU in terms of getting a Zelda game early on. That and the transition to true HD has really put a hamper on Nintendo's ability to push out games like they used to. Hopefully they have an engine in place that they can start using in the NX to pump them out.

Wind Waker was the GC Zelda
I actually totally forgot about Wind Waker, that's my bad. It doesn't change the point however, in that the last 3 Zelda games have come out at or near the end of a console's life cycle. It just meant that the Gamecube also got a zelda earlier.

Because Nintendo. For whatever reason they're releasing old games on eShop slowly. I guess they're adding GBA and DS games to the Wii U eShop at a decent rate, but there have only been released 10 Wii games on eShop since they started doing that at the beginning of the year.
They'll get around to rereleasing Gamecube games eventually, but I wouldn't bet on it happening until the NX.

As a test plug in a crappy USB flash drive you don't care about and copy your save data to it. Unplug the drive and erase the original copy from the internal storage. Then see if the game boots normally.

I would imagine the two major hurdles are lack of Gamecube Controller Ports and Gamecube Memory Card Slots on the Wii U.

The Wii U can store save files for games for other platforms, can't it?
And for the games where the analog triggers were actually used (as analog triggers, and not just as regular buttons) we have the NGC controller adapter for the Wii U.
(Though I'd love analogue triggers on my pad. )
VC games are run in an emulator, I'm willing to guess that the Wii U just doesn't have the processing power to emulate gamecube without any significant performance issues.

That second part would be a pretty shitty reason. The PS3 emulates PS1&2 memory cards just fine and stores the data on the HDD. Wii U could easily do the same. And the GCN controller adapter exists for all 3 games that used the Cube's unique triggers in any meaningful way (or you could utilize the extra buttons available on the Wii U pad/pro controller).

Since the Playstation 3 is emulating those platforms, emulating memory cards is no issue, but Gamecube games on the Wii U would assuredly be run natively on the hardware as Wii games do. Would Nintendo be able to develop the proper wrapped to make memory cards work?
The Gamecube controller adapter is a niche product that I haven't seen in a store since November of last year. It's gonna be hard to explain to folks that you have to drop the cash on an adapter to play Gamecube titles. Folks already bitch about having to own Wii Remotes to play Wii games on the Wii U.

Two reasons
1: there has always been at least 1 Zelda available on each console that wasn't available on another (until now I'll imagine)
2: Nintendo limited editions are usually really REALLY limited
Edit: because of those two reasons I felt pretty confident I was making the right choice. Now I feel like I've wasted money on a broken console that doesn't even have the game(s) I wanted to play

The PS3 used hardware BC for PS2 games, and just emulated system level stuff like the controller and memory card ports. If Sony can do it, I'm sure Nintendo can handle it.

I think the vast majority of Cube games would play just fine with the standard Wii U options. Some might need some minor remapping to the WiiU's extra buttons.
I don't think the lack of Cube games on the eShop has anything to do with controllers and everything to do with the Wii U being done. They can save them for a selling point on the next console.
Nintendo is also ridiculously anal when it comes to BC. They've shown they can natively run digital Wii discs. Their emulators can assuredly handle any manner of rom. Yet I bet they still extensively test each and every single one, which is seriously going to kill your ability to release them with any brevity. I mean it's nice that they care that much, but it's also dumb and annoying as hell too.
It's also why I doubt we'll get GC games, at least for this generation. Or maybe we will, but like I said, it'll only be when it meets their too high standards.

The big thing that's missing is the analog triggers. Some of the best games, like Super Mario Sunshine, relied reasonably heavily on them.
I was going to say, it would seem a real bad move to require a GC adapter to play GC games... but they already did a similar thing with SNES games on the Wii requiring a pro controller.
I suppose the upside is the things are shockingly not rare anymore and can be acquired pretty easily. They were all over stores a while back, and Nintendo is even currently selling them on their website.

No, I wouldn't say otherwise if I was Nintendo. For the exact reason you just provided. If the Wii U died without ever getting an exclusive Zelda game, people would be out for blood and it would cost the company a ton of consumer confidence in their next system. Nintendo can afford to have one fewer NX launch title more easily than they can afford to burn bridges like that.

I guess
I'm sure it's coming out for both systems (probably at the same time like Twilight Princess)

Except I have definitely heard of people who bought the PS3 with the main intent of buying The Last Guardian, and obviously it bit them back, and I feel awful for them.
It is an unfortunate situation and it would be nice to rely on companies to do exactly what they say they will do, but the simple fact is you can't do it. The safest course of action regarding buying consoles is to only buy them if there is a game (or multiple) that will justify it and they are already released, even if there is a really pretty limited editions, and if you don't do otherwise than you risk you get burned.
My condolences to Xaquin, I am sorry you didn't enjoy the WiiU as much as I did, your mistakes have lain the path to my contentedness.

A lot of jumping to conclusions, seriously. Why is everything a foregone conclusion?
We don't even know when the NX is releasing! They're going to talk about it next E3, and that's actually all I remember them saying, I don't even know if they said they were going to show it.
Yeah, it might make sense. But we honestly have no idea. Maybe they've got other plans.
I don't know why you would assume anything about the state of the next Zelda game when they haven't even shown off the new system, let alone announced any software for it (or how the software will work, regarding cross platform talk).
They even mentioned something about how the Wii U is already NX, and/or going to be part of that ecosystem. We don't have the first clue of what they're doing. Chill on Zelda.

oh I'm not flying into a rage
but for me, $350 plus games isn't a little bit of money. It was a pretty big purchase and it was made based off of 25 years worth of previous company track record.
I suppose I could be wrong, and it could come out as a Wii U exclusive (but I don't think I'll be wrong), or it could come out and be the exact same as the NX version (but then what would be the NX incentive?).
I won't buy another Nintendo console until the game I want has been shipped. Win some, lose some!

If you'll at best break even (and that's at best), might as well wait to see what happens to Zelda U.

and why is that?
Wind Waker was the GC Zelda
WW HD is a great remake but it's still a remake
I really disliked Hyrule Warriors. I'm sure it's great but it's not a play style I enjoy and it's definitely not a traditional Zelda

Uh..first of all, the Wii U is getting a Zelda game, very likely next year.
Also, why did you buy a console when apparently the single game that you want to play on it wasn't out yet?
As a test plug in a crappy USB flash drive you don't care about and copy your save data to it. Unplug the drive and erase the original copy from the internal storage. Then see if the game boots normally.
I would imagine the two major hurdles are lack of Gamecube Controller Ports and Gamecube Memory Card Slots on the Wii U.
Do you have a friend or family member with a Wii U you can try the disc in?

The Wii U can store save files for games for other platforms, can't it?
And for the games where the analog triggers were actually used (as analog triggers, and not just as regular buttons) we have the NGC controller adapter for the Wii U.
(Though I'd love analogue triggers on my pad.

Until Nintendo says otherwise, The Legend of Zelda title announced for release on Wii U is releasing on the Wii U.
Switch: 6200-8149-0919 / Wii U: maximumzero / 3DS: 0860-3352-3335 / eBay Shop
Would you say otherwise if you were Nintendo?
Edit: also, if it does come out at the same time for the NX, then what was the point (for me) of even owning a Wii U?!
I could have bought Child of Light on Steam for less (same with the Lego games) but I wanted to support Nintendo.
It's also why I doubt we'll get GC games, at least for this generation. Or maybe we will, but like I said, it'll only be when it meets their too high standards.
The big thing that's missing is the analog triggers. Some of the best games, like Super Mario Sunshine, relied reasonably heavily on them.
I suppose the upside is the things are shockingly not rare anymore and can be acquired pretty easily. They were all over stores a while back, and Nintendo is even currently selling them on their website.
Wish there was a rail shooter for the U as well
Starfox is coming, and until then there are two delightfully insane Sin & Punishment titles up on the eShop.

I guess
I'm sure it's coming out for both systems (probably at the same time like Twilight Princess)
I just wish I wasn't stuck with a $350 paperweight for showing confidence in Nintendo's Zelda track record.
If people fly into a rage because one game is also on your console's successor...
...I don't even know, man. That happens so often I have no idea why this would even be a thing. These people who are hypothetically out for blood should be glad they didn't buy a PS3 for The Last Guardian.
Let's Plays of Japanese Games
Nah, they'll just release the Wii versions on the eShop.
Being realistic here.

This is not what's being debated here
Just the very likely scenario that it will also be on NX, and likely an improved version, even if artificially
Like how Nintendo was really shitty about only putting widescreen on the Wii version of TP
