You know, if they change the story to have Cait Sith leave the party and Reeve join the party later in the game, I would be 1000% okay with that.
Reeve is great.
Cait Sith is perhaps the dumbest character concept the series has ever seen. If they just wrote the whole dumb costume/robot/whatever out of it entirely and had Reeve simply join the group and lie about who he is, I think that'd work a lot better.
Sephiroth boss rush down. Wasn't quite as bad as expected, though I did still have to burn a mythril. The first two bosses are quite easy; I think I used one boost and one retaliate on the first, and maybe that plus a couple Firagas on the second. The third boss is smooth sailing except for Trine, which will wreck you. (This is where I used the mythril -- a last-second Trine left my party near death going into Jenova, and she picked off Sephiroth before I could get my buffs up. It's partially my fault -- forgot to use Magic Break.) Jenova's attacks are actually pretty weak once she's power broken and you have Protect and/or Sentinel's Grimoire up, so it's just a matter of whittling her down before you run out of buffs.
If I had to do it again, I'd move Armor Break to Tidus and Magic Break to Sephiroth; this would free up Sephiroth for more Double Cuts when needed (since Magic Break often doesn't need to be applied, but Armor Break is vital). Poison was useless, so I'd recommend Protectga instead. Firaga was a bad idea, since a Firaga cast hits for about the same as a boosted armor-broken retaliate; I should've brought Firaja instead (but be warned that the third boss absorbs fire). I would also strongly consider moving Tyro into Tidus's role, and bringing that healer with the Shellga SB. Tyro's healing output was a bit under par; I brought Tidus primarily for his SB, but the slow never actually landed.

Aw then that'd mean they have to get rid of the black materia scene. I... I liked that scene.

So I had no idea there was a second, good ff mobile game. When everyone in here was talking about rk, I thought it was the bad one (all the bravest) and was legit confused. Finally checked it out cause it sounded like it was worth it and I thought maybe it changed to be better. Then I realized it was a new game. Now I am 100% hooked. Even if there is done rng annoyances later this is fun as hell and is killing my phone. I am purposely taking it slow to enjoy the fights as they are though it gave me this sword that is insane and made cloud cheese fights mostly anyway.

So I wasted about 100 mythril last night trying to get my new Sephiroth a One-Winged Angel, since I was sick of him being relegated to a 45 ATK dagger. A massive amount of 3-stars flooded my inventory as I cursed this game. I have just enough for one last multi-pull, I thought. If it's not in there, I quit this game and move on to the other Android games waiting for me.
Somehow picked up another Valiant, a Diamond Pin, and a One-Winged Angel. It's like the game knew.
I'm convinced that I've been banished from getting 5 Star items. I have 35 Mythril saved up right now and really want OWA, but know that I'll get another fucking Harp.
TBH, I know the meta favors Seph but I'm saving my Mythril for Squall's Shear Trigger. Just because. This is a really bad idea and I KNOW I'm gonna get burned but hey, fun right? I think?
The black materia scene was ridiculous. It tried to make us feel bad about a puppet despite knowing that its speaker and controller wouldn't be hurt, and the monologuing was kinda nuts. I thought it was a low point in the game, to be honest.
The main issue with writing out Cait Sith is that it functioned as the high-magic replacement character. As weird as that is, it somehow seems even less weird than Reeve himself popping in and filling that role. Then of course there's the continuity problems created in AC and other spin-offs, which I expect they'll try to mostly avoid (at least super stark ones like that), not to mention all the other cameo appearances in games like FFX and such.
I think what we'll see is a revamped character. There will still be a weird puppet talking cat mascot thing, but I'm thinking whatever it's riding in is going to be at least a little more setting-appropriate than a giant pink stuffed animal thing. Something drawing on MagiTek for inspiration would be pretty stellar (and in-line with all the other mechanized war-bots in the game).

I always thought the black materia scene was ridiculous on purpose. Heroic self-sacrifice speeches are a pretty common thing in fiction, and it's absurd coming from a remote-controlled robot whose identical replacement joins you literally minutes later.

Yeah. I thought it was trying to trick you into lowering your expectations about main character death, thinking they'd all just come back, so that the gutpunch later on would hurt more when you realized it was for realsies.
I love the idea some people have that Aya is actually going to appear in the game as the actress for Loveless. It won't make up for T3B, but it would be a start.
More than anything I've been wondering what the next major trailer is going to focus on. Knowing full well how crazy the fanbase is over Sephiroth, I could see them waiting until next E3 or a similarly packed avenue to come up with a trailer that features that iconic fire scene with him. It would be the next best stinger to close out on.
I also expect them to roll out each new character design one at a time, or at least doing so for the really popular characters. Square could have a presentation where they spend 20 minutes talking about the lighting in Aerith's eyes and the individual strands from her hair, and the fans will eat it up.

I think one of my favorite things from him recently was an interview not too long ago where he mentioned that he didn't even know he was the director for the FF7 remake until a while after it had started production.
edit- IIRC the way he found out was that he received a company wide email that cited him as the director and his reaction was, "Uh, what?".
Axen on
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
I think we're going to see, and hear, a lot at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. The game will have been in development somewhere between 1-2 years on a pre-existing engine. And I don't think S-E will be too worried about it taking away from XIV since they've already put demos of that game into our hands (showing us a bunch more stuff at a press event doesn't seem especially useful at this point, they just need to release it).
Not saying that any particular systems will be finalized (Square loves to keep messing with the gameplay systems all the way up to release -- see XIII's demo vs game), but we should know a lot more about at least where they're going with it regarding the combat system if nothing else. We'll see more characters (maybe the whole cast?) and more places, and we should learn what they're doing with the world (in terms of getting from place to place).
Then again we are talking about the corporate troll kings, so maybe we just get the same teaser reel again.

This gives me confidence that the team is going to bring their A game and then some.

Stun wears off on him after one round so I was lucky to not see trine when intimidate missed. Jenova was actually easier when constantly slowed and sentinel shield up. Still killed Red and I was down to my last cure at the end. Would have been better to swap out Red for Tidus but couldn't resist the full FF7 team.
Didn't master the final two and won't be going back for them either. Guess I should see about farming the FF8 bugs before the event closes.

Balthier event tonight.
I can finally add the true main character of FFXII to my roster.
Replaced Vaan the minute it became an option and he was rocking a kick ass spear for the rest of the game with Ashe and Basch bringing up the rear.
...the only thing he's probably going to be able to use is a lowly knife from my inventory.
Fear not! Balthier can use spears in FFRK as well.
Spears you say? Interesting...I was going to drag Kain out with the XII 4*++ spear I've got, but that sounds like quite the suitable weapon for a true leading man.

So with the talk going around about whether they'll re-use the same VAs, or go for a new cast, or even go for a celebrity route for the FFVII Remake...
If they decide to go all-in and use mo-capped actors, then at least as far as choreography goes...
Is there a limit to how high stamina can be raised?
Googled it but could only find stuff mentioning shards increasing it, no mention of the actual limit. I'm guessing it maxes out at 100?
I can personally attest that it can go higher than 100. I believe we are limited by the number of shards we can obtain not any hard coded limit. Not sure what the current max would be, I've barely scratched the surface of the last round of elites and am at 106.
But in case you missed the memo, Heavensward is bloody fantastic.
I see no reason not to talk about the game here, in the generic FF thread. You're just not likely to get a lot of detailed opinions since I don't think a lot of the regular posters in this thread play it.
I just 45 on my PLD, so 5 more levels until I can finally finish the ARR story and see all the stuff that came in patches and actually play HW.

For reference, here's what I used:
Cloud -- Power Break, Retaliate
Sephiroth -- Double Cut, Armor Break
Tidus -- Magic Break, Boost
Vivi -- Thundaja, Firaga
Tyro -- Curaga, Poison
If I had to do it again, I'd move Armor Break to Tidus and Magic Break to Sephiroth; this would free up Sephiroth for more Double Cuts when needed (since Magic Break often doesn't need to be applied, but Armor Break is vital). The team said that animating Red's jaw as he talked was an utter nightmare, so he only got the one line. :P
I hope they do bring Liam O' Brian back for Red, so I can eagerly spam "I've been waiting for this!".
