I'd actually enjoy a NG+ mode in FFVIIr where you can prevent Aerith's death. The game then changes drastically at that point, skipping large parts of it and having a more direct line toward the end confrontation, but from a different angle with adjusted dungeons and super-hard enemies.
This would prevent messing with the original story & gravitas of that scene while still allowing for a version of the game where Aerith lives, promoting replay, and offering a high-challenge version of the end game, defeating Sephiroth before he even summons Meteor. It could even lead to a new final boss after Sephiroth, such as a different, crazy-hard version of JENOVA.
Or go all out with the crazy and take the space rocket to the Meteor, fighting some massive incarnation of the thing to make it disintegrate before it reaches Planet.
I love NG+ shenanigans. Give them all to me.
Triptycho: A card-and-dice tabletop indie RPG currently in development and playtesting
I always took the Tifa/Cloud relationship to be one that just never actually "works". One or the other of them sometimes wants it to, but it never does.
"Words aren't the only way to express your feelings" is pretty much the tagline of their entire relationship. It also extends beyond the original game.
Dissidia is a good example; Cloud retains his memories of Tifa while she remains amnesiac (a delicious irony that didn't get explored nearly enough), but rather than reveal this to her, he decides to take matters into his own hands and
takes on the final boss all by himself.
And loses.
Man, now I want to play Dissidia. I didn't realize it had much story to it.
Wait...so theres an overworld, airships and chocobo breeding in Type-0?
Nice.
The player controlled airship doesn't come into play until literally the end of the game. You won't have it for like 95% of the main story. Chocobo breeding is very simplistic and completely useless, so don't get too excited for that feature.
The only thing higher tier bred chocobos are used for is beak-pecking at overworld enemies during the Sortie Missions, and there aren't nearly enough Sorties in the game. They grossly underused that mission type. And it's better to use a ranged person or a character with a lightning spell equipped on these missions than it is to use the chocobos.
Having a navigable world map is nice though. I must admit I miss that element of gameplay in the modern FFs, and it was a welcome return in T0.
As long as you get the airship on your first play through, (it's optional, BTW!) you'll have it at the start of new game+. Then as you do all the extra missions you couldn't do during the first play through and open up the occupied areas, you will be able to fly the airship around and land wherever you want, which gives you easy access to endgame dungeons (that you probably won't even be able to do if you don't grind levels or scum the secret training function by setting the system clock forward). You'll also be able to easily get to all the various towns to do their Requests and sidequests, shop their shops, retrieve l'Cie Stones, etc.

They are pretty plentiful but also brief conversations. I really wish the game had more of it, or that they would finally make a crossover RPG filled with skits and crossover dialog.
Tifa and Lightning have a legitimate bro moment in Dissidia. It's pretty great (and probably intentional as Lightning's Japanese VA is the same as Aerith's).

Dissidia's story mode is gold.
I never cared much for the combat system (was kind of a pain in the ass on my hands and I never got my head around it) but the games are worth their weight in fan service and character interactions.
Especially the sequel which just jams both of them together.
I didn't like type-0 the game in the first place, and I didn't expect the PC version to change that.
According to reddit, it's capped at 30 FPS, low FOV, and there's no mouse support whatsoever so you must have a controller to play.
I can't say I've even tried, but did XIII or XIII-2 (or any of the FF ports on Steam, really, except the ones that had previously been for PC like VII and VIII) have mouse support?
The FPS/Resolution thing is particularly 'funny' because they already went through this shit when they ported XIII and later patched it to fix this; and releasing XIII-2 with that support from the get go. Silly that Type0 would go back on that. Maybe they need to find another company to handle these PC ports, because they don't seem to be getting the memo.
Though I'm not sure how the FOV would be any different on PC than on consoles; did they change something?
If it's as bad as people are claiming, how long until this too is taken down in order to avoid Steam refunds?
This is the new thing, isn't it? Steam refunds scaring shoddy ports right out of the Steam store.
Been thinking about the refund.
Game doesn't seem completely horrible but the guilt of passing over Shadowrun Hong Kong for Type-0 in my FF gorging euphroic haze is starting to really sink in now.

Looking through the "reviews" on steam for Type-0 and I'm a bit torn.
On one hand, making some of the same port mistakes they already got lambasted for is pretty stupid.
On the other hand, some of the things people are bitching about (low res textures, FoV being the same as the other ports) don't really feel terribly valid considering it was sold as is, there are screenshots to see what it looked like (identical to the PS4/X1 versions) and reviews that would have given you enough info on the other ports to know what to expect here.
It doesn't mean SE (and/or whoever they had do the port) didn't fuck up, but at the same time it's hard to have sympathy for people bitching about not getting things they had no reason to assume they were going to get.
Also, while I love it when a game is 60 fps, the degree with which people are freaking the fuck out about 30fps locked games these days is pretty absurd. It's totally overboard and presumes that a 30fps game is neigh-unplayable garbage. Which is nonsense.

I will agree with that.
The port deserves to be taken to task but some people really take it to the extreme.
I'm not one of those people, because I play a lot of games on both consoles and PC, and also I'm just not as picky about locked framerate. If I was, I'd be complaining about games like Bloodborne, which are amazing games for the most part.
That being said, I have no problems whatsoever with people who pay for high end PC gaming rigs who think that if a game is going to be released on PC at all, it should take advantage of the hardware. Why should they not expect that Type 0's PC port would have better textures implemented, not be locked to only 1080p or 720p resolution, or not have a locked framerate? Some people play 2k+ for their PC gaming rigs, and if you're going to release a game on PC, you should be trying to get their business, not telling them just be glad you got the game at all, which is how a lot of devs/publishers treat their PC ports.
People will get mad about what the fuck anything so getting mad about people getting is pretty pointless.
Personally I don't really care enough about any of these problems so I think I'll be fine, haven't tested it out myself though.
Yeah I'm downloading it right now.
I will say its hilarious that with pretty low rez textures they still managed to make the game 25gb. Did they at least rerender cutscenes in HD or anything to account for that much space?
I know larger storage requirements is just how it works as games advance; it's always been. But there does seem to be a substantial disparity in how fast game sizes have ballooned lately with how much better they look relative to even a couple years ago when games were 1/5 of the size. They're not 5x better looking, with 5x better textures/cutscenes, that's for sure.
Played a little of the beginning of Type-0 on PC. So far the experience for me is equal to the PS4 version, with the one notable draw being the complete removal of motion blur on the camera. Last I checked, the patch on the PS4 version still incorporates a little motion blur, which is still too much in my opinion. Having it off completely is definitely better.
The thing that annoys me the most so far about the PC version is that it has the exact same issue that FFXIII and FFXIII-2 had; you can't exit the game through your controller...it has to be the ESC key on your keyboard.
I've got no problem with 30fps on consoles, and certainly the more "PSP" aspects of the title are inherent and not going to change even with a PC port, but damn if it doesn't bother me when a game obviously *could* expect to hit 60fps on a lot of modern configs, but they render it completely impossible.
The sad thing is on reddit and other places complaints about the textures are met with "OMG it's a PSP game what do you expect?" I'm pretty sure PC gamers expect PC games to have higher rez textures than a PSP, I think that's what. =P

On one hand, they list on the steam page that it has higher resolution options for higher end PCs (obviously not really true). On the other, I don't think they could really sell the game for $30 if they were going to put in the work to do a massive texture overhaul just for the PC version, soooo.
I mean, I have a higher end rig myself and it'd be awesome if it took advantage of that, but I think your expectations of a port of a PSP port are a tad unrealistic. I really doubt SE put much of any budget behind this, it's really not surprising.
Okay, am I crazy in thinking Dissidia 2 was on Vita? It's been a LONG time since I played it, but I recall it was some deal where it had 1 and 2 in the package, and I know I had it digitally, but when I checked the store to redownload it (sadly limited on space on my Vita), all I saw was game 1 and some sort of $3 "bridge between game 1 and 2" sort of thing. Have I lost my mind?

My best guess at why Type-0 is locked at 30fps is because it started its life as a PSP game. It's not uncommon for systems like AI, hit detection, animations, and various other things to be tied to framerate, which would have capped out at 30 on the PSP hardware.
And since the PS4/XB1/PC versions are more like ports than remakes, those underlying systems were likely not reworked. So 30fps it is.
Feel free to rip it up anyway, I guess, but I'm almost certain that's the reason.

I got the chance to cover it and it's downloading as we speak. I'm curious if they managed to add any technical improvements from the PS4 version.
Motion Blur is a graphics toggle, so that's already a step up.
