Yeah I dunno why anybody bothers putting out multiplat JRPGs, when the people who want them are Playstation users. I'm sure there's SOME xbox players who like JRPGs, but historically, not the platform to go to.

Historically, yes. Currently, Atlus publishes like half the current-gen RPGs available on the 3DS. Which, I mean, is great if you like Etrian Odyssey or Megami Tensei. Mario & Luigi, Bravely Default, and Tales of the Abyss are also good! Except I just listed most of the 3DS JRPG library.
Edit: Also Xenoblade 3D.
There are somehow more JRPGs available on PC than there are on current generation Nintendo platforms right now.
First time in awhile I had to give up on a memory crystal, but the gimmick of the anima manipulator from the Lightning event was too much. I tried destroying one helper and beating on the main target. I tried ignoring them. And I tried mog's suggestion of killing them both and then "bursting down" the main body. The second helper died and both were regenerated before another character could move.
ok,
I just barely did it by killing 1 manipulator and then using a lunatic High RW + kirin + power break on animus while auto attacking until he gets down to about half. then I magic broke the other manipulator while keeping him power broke and blasted him with abilities that didn't trigger a counter like magic, chi blast and SBs
Well, while type-0 is a pretty lazy PC port, at least it seems to run well. Just happy I actually get to play it! They really could have put some more effort into some of the animations though, its origins reaaally show.
Gameplay is pretty damn fun though, although I am not sure I am supposed to chew trough half the squad dying for bosses.
Obligatory: Do we know if this is coming to Android?
Because, honestly, I don't have enough versions of FFVII, and need another. :rotate:
Buh. I have it on PC, my PSP, Vita, my PS3, at some point I played around with the EvilDark and played it on my Android phone... On all these devices, I got as far as a couple towns outside Midgar and set it aside. Just got around to gaming on my iPad, so far just Bastion, Baldur's Gate, and a couple mobile games like PvZ, Peggle, Angry Birds, etc. Each damn time, I tell myself THIS will be the device I actually run through the game FOR REALS. And I'll say the same damn thing as soon as this version hits the $10 sweet spot. Dammit.
Impressions of FFVII iOS after spending 30 minutes with it
- Virtual analog stick is mostly fine. It's responsive, but the problem with FFVII is that pressing up does not always correspond to the character moving "up" onscreen - the game uses some weird camera angles.
- It's definitely preferable to the virtual D-pad that takes over in menus/in battle though. The buttons are way too small.
- Max stats/no encounters is a great addition for people that would just want to experience the story and not mess around with any of the gameplay systems, akin to the Very Easy mode in Persona 4 Golden
- It's the same translation - I know some people (including Professor Snugglesworth) were hopeful for the PS4 port coming this winter having a new translation, but if this version is any indication, it won't be the case
- Definitely looks better than the PS1 version! Characters are a slightly higher res. But I legit love the way FFVII looks as is so this small improvement is welcome
- The "swirl" when you go into battle looks really slick, almost out of place with how old everything else in the game looks
- If you somehow lack a PC, PS1, PS2, PS3 or PS4, it's probably worth it, but definitely check out the PC/PS1 version first, unless like I said you just want to do god mode. Even so, I might say hold off and see if the PS4 version contains that stuff.
Well, the PS4 version is meant to be based on the PC version which I thought got a minor script tweak?
Then it was mostly the fact that it was announced a year ago and still isn't out that leads people to think they're doing something other than still porting it. Since you wouldn't figure it'd take an entire year to do that.
So, no. But if it's literally just the PC version on PS4 with nothing else, then there was some feet-dragging going on.
I had to say though. Given the day and age we live in now, I am legitimately surprised that boost option wasn't a microtransaction.
When I read the App Store mention of the Max Stats thing, I immediately scrolled down to check for in-app purchases. They would've been tarred and feathered for doing it, but I'll still toss them some credit for not doing so.
For the Portal app, be sure to go through and check virtually every possible page, news item, guide, etc; inside the app. Most have a "Get points" or coins (I don't have it open atm) button that you can get once per page. First time watching videos in that section also gives you some points once per video, along with the daily point button. And getting daily points for playing Triple Triad.
Points can be traded for (what appears anyway, haven't bought any) phone backgrounds and at much higher costs Triple Triad unique (restricted) cards.
It's all free. Triple Triad has your usual "free" system like FFRK of being able to play a certain amount of times before either waiting for crystals to recharge or buying more to keep playing.
For the most part the app isn't anything interesting. It just has links to all the currently available FF game apps, Triple Triad, an app specific version of FF1 (saves don't share from the normal FF1 app if you already own it), and yeah.
Otherwise it's just a FF news app. Nice to have it consolidated, and I loves me some Triple Triad; given it is all free, I have zero complaints. It is, however, nothing except for an advertisment app for FF related stuff. Don't get it expecting something profound or content rich.
Also, just an FYI, you need both a google account AND a SE account to play Triple Triad and (I believe anyway) get some of the superficial rewards from the Portal app. That might bug some people, so just keep it in mind.
I hope that at some point in the future there is more SE account integration, maybe letting you buy minions in XIV or something. But for now it is what it is.
Not having an SE account means I just got FF1 for free.
Fuck Triple Triad.
The FF1 for free is for anyone who gets the app between now and (I think) Aug 31st. I have a Google and SE account, that I linked to the app, and still got FF1.
Though, given I already have the normal FF1 app, and it looks like the exact same version, I'll probably just stick with it?

Fans will be in for a treat as Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata will be taking the stage in North America for the first time at PAX Prime as part of the ongoing Active Time Reports. In addition to sharing a few personal stories about the development of the game, he will be sharing some insights into the recently revealed trailer. Join us on Saturday as we discuss one of the most highly anticipated games from Square Enix.
I foresee a lot of damage control on this one.
Whether any of it results in actual new details or footage worth a damn remains to be seen.
Locking the screen on FF1 from within the portal just shuts it down completely.
Does the regular do that too?
Quick test says yes.
EDIT: closing triggers the quicksave, so you will start right back where you were anyway; but still pretty obnoxious, yes.
Are all the controls for 1-6 the same?
I'll play the free version and not worry about picking up the rest if they are.
Well, they all have touchscreen controls, so they're similar to varying degrees based on that. 3 and 4 are 3D and not the sprite/grid based type of the rest. 5 & 6 have the HD sprite upgrades that were really controversial.
Controls wise, 1 & 2 are virtually identical, being based on the (I believe anyway) PSP remakes. 3 & 4 (and 4 TAY) are virtually identical being based on their DS counterparts. 5 & 6 each have their own unique control schemes. 5 is pretty straight foward, and (in my view anyway) makes targeting and selecting stuff easier than most of the other ports. 6 is odd, combat integrates ATB into the menus; so as a characters turn is coming up, their personal menu rises from the bottom of the screen, to show you who's coming up next and when. It actually works, but is different.
Map/menu wise, they're all virtually the same. touchscreen movement and touchscreen menus. Not a lot to say there.

No, there are just some views that the Dawn trailer was disappointing, and overblew/overestimated its significance.

Their Gamescom conference, which they built up as being the next big event for showcasing the game and also the reason they skipped E3, was a whole lot of nothing that consisted of a brief (but still pretty) story teaser and a whole lot of "This thing is going to be awesome, take my word for it!"
Their one piece of new in-game footage was a single monster encounter that lasted 30 seconds and ended in a Game Over. It was almost a parody of all the development hell jokes people have made over the past decade.

The thing is that the reticence to show much content and features isn't unique or even increased with XV vs any non-ARR FF since...well, VII/VIII probably.
XIII had very little substantial information released prior to it coming out, as did XII, XI and X. IX had little too, given it was so late in the PSOnes life cycle.
No one questions the development hell of XV; its no secret that it has a long and troubled development, not even starting as a mainline FF game to begin with. XI was probably the last FF that didn't have some level of development hell. XI incidentally had a lot of post-release hell due to it never being quite clear prior to release (or the japanese beta) as to how it actually played and whether or not it qualified as a 'real' FF.
Its fair to desire more info on XV. It's just not unusual how information is being handled. I think YoshiP and XIV ARR spoiled a lot of people into thinking that it was some shift in SquareEnix itself, and their communication; when reality has shown that it ultimately was just a decision of the team itself and not representative of what to expect out of SE otherwise. And it seemingly made people forget that prior FF's were just as much of mysteries during development as XV is.

That right there is the problem.
For FFXV they decided to take an FFXIV approach and keep the fans updated with routine information. That only works when you actually have meaningful content to show off, like Yoshi-P always did with FFXIV.
Instead it's been mostly acknowledgements and promises of things we have zero reference to go on ("Luna is totally a better female character than Stella! I know you never got to see the latter in action, but trust me!").
This is why I feel Nomura had the right of it after all. He tends to go dark with his info dumps, but whenever he does decide to share something it tends to be worthwhile. Take the latest Kingdom Hearts III news, for instance. It wasn't built up as a big event, just a sneak peek at a new world and that's it.
Even the FFVII Remake, which is something that practically everyone is dying for more info, is being handled better. We got the big CG reveal trailer for E3, and a promise that the next big update is Winter. That works because they aren't taking that time in-between to bore you with non-details and updates.
I can't imagine throwing in money yet, but I'm pretty hooked on Triple Triad.
Napkin math: The upper level cards in the Portal Exchange cost 300 points. Points seem to expire after two months. You get a point per day for looking at the app and a point for playing Triple Triad. Hopefully they add at least 3 news items/videos per day on average, or those cards are going to remain forever out of reach.

Those virtual controls look really bad.
Edit: And on top of turning off random encounters, it includes a 'Max Stats' command.
I'll post impressions once I can spend some time with it
Real stoked about the whole "max stats" and "no randoms" stuff
Neat!
And yeah
They just straight up give you Omnislash too
I'm forseeing another "Ass" response from the "fanbase".
"We Assumed S-E would do this and that, based on absolutely no info at all, and they haven't done it? Fuck you S-E.".
I'm fine without a new translation, but if they do one, neat

Again, I only played up to when you get to the Seventh Heaven bar, but so far everything seemed exactly the same
The guy is properly, singularly, sick.
I didn't know that the PC version included a character booster! That gives me hope the PS4 version will have that
When I read the App Store mention of the Max Stats thing, I immediately scrolled down to check for in-app purchases. They would've been tarred and feathered for doing it, but I'll still toss them some credit for not doing so.
