I have been known to C some W's. I'm in my 3 day cooldown from breaking contract right now, though, so I can swap to IOSK. I think I can still drop for FRR in the meantime, though.
3 days till I get to read the same complaints about CW you mean?
Then in two weeks I get to read how much fun it is to be able to run as a bubble boy in every drop.
I just want to get in an fast mech and mow down all the trees. clankclankclank
Whenever I'm in a shooter game with destructible trees and I'm on the defensive, the first thing I do is get on an MG and kill all the trees. Because trees off concealment to the enemy, and that's no good.
Played 1 match. Assault. FS9-A. Forest Snow. Timid peek and poke, enemy goes tunnel. We kill a few, they kill a few. Our 3 lights rush their base, kill their lights. We're up 8-4, we win on caps...
2 assists, 38 damage.
The new Hero Thunderbolt is gonna totally be Teir 1 out of the gate even without quirks. Privileged IS players, amiright? Maybe they should give it missile quirks for its zero missile hardpoints, lol. Trash players can bitch all they want about how terrible it is.
Is the Timberwolf still the best mech in the game?
Yes. Also, the IIC mechs are probably going to be underwhelming. I don't see how the Hunchback IIC could possibly be better than the IS Hunchback cause it has two hunches which means it's twice as bad. LOGIC!~ Jenner IIC will be ok.
Well we ended at 21 points for the event at position 50 for the FRR and 199 overall for IS. I know I got 12 of those points since I wanted the bobblehead.
Actually I could use an invite to OOSK; won't contribute too much except for personal body count however...

So I logged on for the first time in forever to check out the new River City map. Trees and lampposts collapsing adds quite a bit to the feel of this game. Can't wait to see other maps with destructibles.
I did notice something weird, though... I have two King Crabs, both the 000(L) variant. One is stock and the other is the dual Gauss I've been running. Why do I have an extra King Crab?

They gave extra loyalty rewards out at some point.

Random aside:
For anyone, like me, that can never remember what the values on the Command Console and Targeting Computers are, I've created copypasted the in-lab pop-ups for each piece of equipment.
I'm going to add a link to the OP for this, since Smurfy never seems to have the info.

But two of the same exact variant?
Yep!
I've got two King Cools, two Cent-AHs, and two Atlas whatevers.
I got the new river city map 8 times today during my playtime and I have to say, I really enjoy it. The layout is much better, there's multiple attack routes from both spawns, the engagement points are varied and allow for multiple different fights to happen near each other which is pretty awesome. Several of the matches had heavies and assaults blasting each other from the asylum and shoreline while the lights and mediums brawled it out on the city side. I hope all the redesigns are done as well as this one.
Also, the new dull clunking sound you hear when you hit the destructibles or other mechs adds just enough immersion that I now want destructibles on every map.
The fact that the patch was one and a half gigs makes me cringe at the size of the bigger maps when they get redone.
Yeah, I don't disagree there. When I logged in last night and saw that, I left the room and did chores.
C'mon, PGI! I don't want to do chores! I want to stompy bots! :P
In other news, I discovered a new Kit Fox build last night that might be worth its salt. I started rolling around in this, after our group got too big and necessitated ECM coverage.
I was running LPL+2xMPL, but having some heat control issues, so I started to look at ways to build a cooler chassis. If you've got good aim with the SRMs, this is great little "Eff You" surprise when the brawl converges on the fatties you're bubbling. My damage per match jumped about a hundred points when switched to this build.
played a few games this morning; didn't get the new river city because of course not
I wandered around in test mode though, had a good time knocking over trees. I kinda feel like the high cliff area near the 'low' spawn is a little unnecessary to the rest of the map, but I guess I'll have to see how it actually plays.
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet

River City feels gigantic, but I really enjoyed the two games I got to play on it last night. The increase in elevation changes is something I wholly appreciate, creates a lot more nooks and crannies in which to hide. My first match was a dawn match and I loved the dynamic lighting, that little layer of added realism really works for me. The night match was fun but felt a little less special.
So last night I had the time to play three rounds of CW before bed.
I got that same map each time; attack / counter attack on that desert map with the two gates.
So... That map is... Not so good for IS.
It's just composed of bottle neck after bottle neck and the Clan mechs just effectively turned it into a brutal killing field with IS mechs unable to advance past their superior, longer range gun line.
All three battles ended with Clan mechs spawn camping the last waves of IS drops. One round I dropped with my last mech and was cored before I could move as two full lances were sitting in the spawn, shrugging off drop ship laser blasts. It was a digital war crime.
Made scoring points a touch difficult.
I took @Buttcleft 's advice and turned my Atlas into a LRM boat with a pair of large laser and did the most damage yet in a round with it; 295.
For reference I average about 450 in my 'phract and have a few rounds over 800. And it has an XL engine!
I am throughly impressed with the look and feel of the new map. I can't wait till they redo the others.
Fuck... just give CW those kind of maps and I'd play the shit out of it. None of this gate bullshit.
The objectives really are more of an afterthought, now more than ever since the third revision PGI has done to make them un-rushable. The gates pretty much only serve as the real start of the match since the defending team can't get past them either. I think I've had maybe two Counterattacks since CW launched where Omega decided the result of the match.
Boreal and Hellbore are both pretty terrible maps, but Hellbore is slightly less Clan stacked because its hot. Emerald Taiga, Vitric Forge and even Sulfurous can go bad if the Clans push out past the gate and set up firing lines. IS never wants to push out past the gate on defense because you don't have the same ways to exploit the terrain and won't have enough ECM cover.
Hopefully now they've actually got the map tools they talked about having a year ago and can retool CW quickly.
I hold out hope for the 4v4 mode that's supposedly coming this summer; I don't really see how they can make the current CW game interesting without substantially reworking it though
I do like the drop deck concept, but the attack/defend structure winds up resulting in either sniper/deathmatch games or equally uninteresting rush tactics (which seem to be getting steadily eliminated anyway.) And in equal 'skill' games the defenders have a pretty big structural advantage.

It is a brawler's map now, so awesome. Lighting is very good (played the "day" so far) you can actually see colors.
2 assists, 38 damage.
Never change, Assault. Never change.
Quick! Run your Awesome now before the hotfix!
It is! Sorry should have mentioned that!

Well that was quick. Blatant cash grab? How soon till the tbolt and wolverine mastery packs?

Good grief... Next they'll have a tournament for the most MC purchased.

I had just gotten there and left a destroyed wake of trees I my path.
Which is weirdly not a bad thing.
Go figure.
Well at least we know where all the learning experiences went, sure as hell wasn't into balance.
