Ahhh the memories of when my daughter was a baby. MWO was fresh and new. I helped out by letting the wife sleep while I 'took care' of the baby. Worked well once she started sleeping through the night... then I could stay up stupid late playing.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna complete this event. First I need to get lucky and have the right map pop up (just had caustic valley 5 times in a row). Then I need to strike the right balance of teammates who are both good enough to not get steamrolled by not so good as to steamroll over the enemy. You need to strike that right balance where your teammates die off at the same rate as the enemy, so you and a few others stand atop a pile of corpses with tons of points.

I started out pretty good in the CW side of the event, but will come up short and don't feel like trying to complete it. Part of me thinks I should have just done the solo one, but given how random the maps are I would probably come up short there too. At least I leveled up my faction level and met some great FRR folk.
Needing the game to randomly give you the right maps is the best part of this whole thing. Really allows you to show your skill at queuing for hours and getting lucky.
I just scored 380 points on one of the maps I needed....I hate the fact that I probably would have scored 400+ if I would have toyed with my enemies instead of efficiently backstabbing them to death. Why can't they have a scoring system that rewards good decisions instead of primarily raw damage?
I had 7/9 maps at 400 and was getting increasingly frustrated with not getting mining or forest colony, and then I said 'wait, why the fuck am I doing this to myself' and logged out
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat

They've been doing these events for awhile now. You'd think they'd have this sort of problem figured out. Isn't that literally someone's job over there?

It's a basic coding thing that they are likely not implementing because it would add to their already-multitudinous problems with the queue system in general. The more I play this game the more I'm convinced that they just plain do not have the population required to sustain a matchmaking system any more complex than basic tiers without implementing incredibly long waiting periods.
I'm not even talking about coding. I'm talking about good event design. Not this twisted roulette of "this match won't count because you already have 400 on this map and need map X" that leads to poor gameplay experiences as people disconnect or suicide rush into the enemy team so that they can roll the dice again faster.

Yeah, that too. If there's no way to control for your map then having an event with a map-based requirement is just plain bad.
So I pulled my Quad-LLAS Catapult out of the mothballs. So long as I am sniping over the shoulders of my heavy/assault buddies its still pretty decent. I make limbs fall off fast with that many lasers.
As a bit of theorycraft. I have always heavily favored energy mechs over ballistic mechs. Any clue what the top energy mechs are now? They haven't brought back the SuperNova yet.

In general I'd say Timberwolves, hellbringer, storm crow, and Arctic cheater.
Thunderbolt 5ss if you can live with medium pulse laser range. Firestarter if you like being a more fragile cheater with no ecm. Ignore both IS mechs if PGI eventually follows through on ditching weapon quirks.
Hell, the inner sphere dies overnight if they kill the quirks.

As far as I can tell my favorite trio of light show mechs over bang bang mechs have to be the thunderbolts. 2ERPPC+3ML on one, 3LPL on another, and the super MPL beast of the IS.
On a rare positive note I hadn't played on the updated Forest Colony before last night and hot damn that looks so much nicer. It doesn't feel like a sterile arena anymore and is producing some really fun fights. I had a legit good time on there.
Now, if only we could get procedurally generated maps.
I'd take better objective/gamemodes before proc.gen'd maps. I feel you can do more with one over-large, static map, using dynamic objectives than a bunch of random maps with the gamemodes we have now.
PGI still needs to up it to 4 LL and at least 8 Mediums. That would give IS a 36 and 40 point alpha. But wait, "that would reduce TTK," I hear you say! FALSE! TTK is already that low. Clan ER Mediums put out a 42 point alpha and Medium Pulse put out a 48 point alpha clear out to 330+ meters. Just short of a IS LPL. That doesn't even factor in combining them with Clan Large Lasers. Or the fact Clan mechs have more hardpoints. Most IS mechs don't even have 8 hardpoints for a full Medium loadout.
Keeping the IS hamstrung doesn't reduce TTK, it just hides the true TTK from dirty Clannersplayers occupying the Denial system. Clanners already enjoy increased survivability on their XL engines. If anything, this still wouldn't normalize TTK between factions.
"But but but IS ACs!" I hear you say. Have you tried hitting a Clan mech with autocannons? AC5's are too slow, the same speed as PPCs that no one uses anymore. AC2's are too hot. AC10's too heavy. AC20's have too little range. Why don't Clanners use Autocannons? Because they are too heavy and spray damage all over the enemy and can't pinpoint damage? What if I told you 3xAC5's are pretty much the same damn thing? And that's considered one of the best weapon loadouts the IS has.
In short, I propose we need to break the game further to convince all players it needs to be fixed :P
edit:
Seriously, read some of this https://www.reddit.com/r/OutreachHPG/comments/3lshix/why_is_my_clan_uac_20_so_lethal/ Clanners are talking about 70 and 101(!) damage alphas pretty casually. I got cored out from behind this weekend by an Adder with a 40 point alpha. Instead of 5 Medium Pulse, an IS light would need 8 Medium Lasers or 7 Medium Pulse. Basically, IS Lights need to be Thunderbolts. That's how crazy balance is right now.
I saw an interesting thread the other day
, started by a clanner of all people. Guess it shows that not all clams want unbalanced easy mode.
Their proposed that since many of the table top rules had been bent in the name of balance and better gameplay experience, that we should tweak the number of engine critical required to kill a mech. Either lower it to 2,or raise it to 4. That would either make clan mechs as fragile as IS xl engines, or allow the IS to survive a side torso loss.
The clan engine would still be smaller and superior to its IS counterpart, but no longer could they have their cake and eat it to with both the tonnage savings of an xl engine and survivability comparable to a std engine. Either way, clans and IS would be significantly more even on the engine front.
As you can guess, clams came out of the woodwork in protest of the thought.

Of course, its something that could benefit IS, there for it is the worst thing to happen. Worse than being sodomized by satans flaming dick with hot lead happy ending.
And of course PGI listens because the clans are the only ones who buy mechs or give PGI money.
I didn't count them, but the territory looked comparable in size. A half dozen or so worlds near Rasselhague and one lonesome world cut off by itself near the core.
Tomorrow looks to be fun, very excited to try out the black knight. The 20 minute wait for a match in the already overloaded heavy queue should give me plenty of time to change diapers and make bottles.

So are you going to hold a Timberwolf in one hand and a Thunderbolt in the other and see which one she reaches for
Nope. She's a thunderbolt pilot all the way!
Yep, I'm still the god king of Dakkatown.
Son, I'd like you to meet my Mauler.
I'll show you who the goddamn God King of Dakkatown is.
You two always do this. Would ya stop it?! You're both pretty.

Do the clans just refuse to attack each other and Rasselhague is just too badass for ghost bear to push through?

Ghost bear cant have less territory cause FRR only has like 5 planets left.
Because the clans are totes balance.
