I actually think that LLs are one of the few weapons where IS can be said to have the better version than clans. The range on the IS version is plenty long enough and they aren't saddled with ridiculous duration (especially since most things you use them on likely have duration quirks.)
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
An ER Medium does 463m with a weapon module and TC1, weights 1 ton and finishes firing 0.15 seconds slower. With 4 of them, you do 28 damage for 24 heat. 3 Large Lasers do 27 damage for 21 heat and weigh 15 tons.
The "Disadvantage" of clan laser burn time is a myth. If a clan and IS player both start shooting at the target at the same time, and the clanner looks away once the IS laser is done burning, then the clan laser almost universally inflicts either more damage or approximately the same damage within the time frame. I think the LL might be one of the few exceptions, but the IS damage advantage comes out to less than 1 point of damage within that time window.
Then the clan laser keeps burning for more gravy. IS quirks just push the IS closer to parity.
Power went out. That probably cost me the event. Tourmaline desert just would not drop. When it did drop, our assaults would disconnect. It should have been an easy 300 points for a timberwolf with lrm 45 + narc + tag.... But rng
Leaver buster is a bit more dynamic and had changed a lot in recent times for LoL. Now you face an even more drastic set of penalties that can escalate to temporary bans. It also prevents you from playing ranked matches until you've completed X amount of games, increasing in number each time you continue to leave. Presumably they will prevent you from dropping in CW until you've done X pub games.
It's still a widely criticized system because people with poor internet connections can end up banned because of it, however, one could contend that if your internet is so poor that you cannot maintain a stable connection with which to play the game, you shouldn't be playing in the first place.
I'm eager to see how it shakes out, and I hope it doesn't penalize people who disconnect after they've died (I do this in pubs).
So I was looking at the Marauder again after their new upgraded package offerings. I noticed something that was different than the Urbie package in that the C-Bill version doesn't say it has a custom geo for it. Wondering if this is an oversight by PGI or if they're just giving it a different pattern only and sending it on its way.
people still poptart, you just can't do it in that many places because of how the lift is on jump jets now
I assume they're just afraid to create another set of thunderbolts; the black knight quirks are about on the level of grasshoppers', and those seem decently effective
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet

Except the Grasshopper's are better and it got jump jets. Armor instead of Structure and 6-7 more of it where it counts. General Energy quirks instead of PPC quirks. PPC Velocity is about as useful as the Missile quirks on the Grasshopper.
Lets say you took the Black Knight BL-7-KNT.
+10% Energy Cooldown
+12.5% PPC Velocity
+10% PPC Cooldown
And changed those to:
+10% Energy Cooldown
+12.5% Energy Range
+10% Energy Heat Generation
Suddenly its looking pretty good and doesn't encourage a "gimmicky" PPC build.
I feel like PGI still has no idea what kind of value to assign quirks, even if they have their Master BV Excel Sheet of Ultimate Balance. PPC quirks are worth about as much as missile quirks for that one hardpoint most IS mechs have. Yeah, its a quirk, but when will you ever use it?
Well the banner says maintenance, so I guess it is happening. Get ready to unzip your epeen.
Also, I'm expecting twitter to light up once people who don't read the website check up on their black Knight's and realize that their energy specialist's heat quirks are inferior to the energy quirks on the mauler 1P
Black Knight feels like its going to be a case study in why people should get the quirks before buying the packages, cause its got some downright sad quirks.
I'd rather have a half decent weapon quirk than all the structure quirks.
I feel like people are under the mistaken impression AC's are good. IS doesn't use Autocannons because they are good. Autocannons are used for two reasons:
- they don't generate a ton of heat (lol AC2s)
- have massive quirks
Hitting a Stormcrow, Hellbringer, Ebon Jaguar or Timberwolf (lol Cheetahs) with an AC5 is so hard I can't imagine trying to do it with a 4 second cooldown PPC. Might as well buy a lottery ticket. Most of them are so fast they hit that sweet spot where you have to lead past them, but convergence on the terrain behind them makes it impossible to line up a shot. Most Clan mechs can dodge my Zeus/Battlemaster shots at 300-500m by just moving backwards.
I mean, GHR-5H vs. BLK-6 (mla quirk variants): GHR gets 20/10 mla/energy cooldown and -12.5 heat gen, BLK gets 20/10 range and 12.5% cooldown. It's pretty similar on the rest of them, range/cd/heat shuffle around but the values are similar. The 'generalist' BLK variant is actually a bit better, getting the same 5% range bonus and slightly more duration reduction. BLK doesn't get JJs but gets more hardpoints and similar structure bonuses (frankly I didn't want to go through and add them all up)
I say 'meh' not so much because it looks bad as because it looks pretty interchangeable with a bunch of stuff that already exists.
also don't underestimate regular IS PPCs; they're actually pretty efficient on anything that gets solid heat quirks. I've been running two and four Mlas on my firebrand with a STD300 and while it is kinda lacking punch, it's good enough at midrange pokey. Kinda want to get a GHR-5N to mess around with but don't really have the bays.

You know, I don't agree with making the Bounty Hunter's Marauder as the hero Marauder either. They should made it Douglasses Marauder, or invented a new variant for Heroing Ala Huginn.
Bounty Hunter would have been a great launching point for a more intrinsic.. challenge/tournament/conflict thing? Like, start off with a tournament. Every match a random player on each team (which is different for each player) gets declared a contract (to keep everyone trying to mob one pour guy in a baykakke), the player that kills his contract gets a point. player with the most points is awarded the Bounty Hunter Marauder and the title "Bounty Hunter"
After that initial tournament, every month you hold a new one, if the Bounty Hunter wins he retains his title and his mech, if he fails, his title and unique marauder is removed and given to the new bounty hunter.
The unique bounty hunter mech also has the ability to be elited on its own without owning other marauders, and if you happen to regain the Marauder after losing it you retain the unlocks you previously put on it.
Could even modify things further by allowing the new bounty hunter to do minor changes, that will be inherited to the next owner. Maybe you got it with PPCs, but you remove the PPCs and put LPLs in their place, the next guy that gets the Bounty Hunter marauder gets one with LPLs instead. Maybe even make it so if you hold on to it for a long period you can even alter the hard points in some fashion..move them, change one for another, whatever. Give it a dynamic, living history in game.
The single most necessary quirk for IS energy boats are heat quirks because heat is the bottleneck. We don't enjoy the benefits of clan DHS. Without heat quirks, we will overheat before we can accomplish much. The rate of fire quirks for ppcs are a joke. No ppc mech has ever been restricted by how frequently it's ppcs cycled. It is always held back by the fear of overheat.
Velocity quirks are probably the single stupidest quirk there is.
Especially since they put PPC Velocity quirks on practically everything. If its so bad then just make the projectile move faster and stop wasting quirks on it, don't serve me a bowl of shit and say its chocolate ice cream.

PPCs aren't bad, per say. Its the ones that plant themselves in a wall behind your target for 0 damage that aren't efficient. I can run a PPC, or a Large Pulse Laser that does 1 more damage for 3 less heat, can't miss, doesn't have minimum range and fires more often. And I can fire 3 of them at the same time without ghost heat for a 33 point alpha.
The extra range on the PPC doesn't matter, because the further away your target is, the more likely your 10 heat gamble doesn't pay off.

I, uh, disagree.

It was true for a long time, dunno if they've fixed it or not.
Given how shitty their disconnect code is this should be a cluster fuck. "Disconnect after dying? BAN."
Poptarts haven't been a thing since hover jets, and the black knight doesn't even have any jump jets.

You are a whale, Hydro. Your epeen is bigger than a Rolls Royce
Black Knights..Black Knights stretching from sun up to sun down, be prepared
If you're there, I'm probably Tier 3 also.
Yeah that makes sense, You guys are amazing but you are not tryhard fuckcockery 12man tryhards. Which I imagine is what populates 4 and 5.
edit
I really don't want to post my tier..
also is it per weight class, or just overall?
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
Overall I believe now.
Web profile doesn't show it.
Tier 5.5?
I actually wouldn't be surprised if I was in 4.
There's a small window on the home screen ingame that shows it.
Also, everyone, make sure you do the new Mechwarrior Academy stuff. You get 5 million C-Bills out of it.
Edit: Also, Black Knight lookin sharp.
Thought it was supposed to be injected this morning.
Who stuck a Gundam in my MechWarrior game?

@Buttcleft
Lower is better. They'd be in tier 1 and 2, not 4 or 5.
I will have the heartiest laugh if Buttcleft was in tier 1 this whole time.
I bitched so much about transparency, so I'll post mine once I know what it is. If you want to keep quiet, that's fine and your right.

They said T5 was the best of the best and T1 was entry level.
