Ahh, got my first champ select whiner bitching about my choice of support. Look bro, I only own Lili and Maulfurion (er, and Tyrande and Tassadar, but wouldn't play them in HL at the moment) because I don't have any gold and just bought the cheap dudes to play hero league, so consider yourself lucky that tiny panda is one of my best champs and I'm happily playing her; don't tell me you think she's useless. *eyeroll*
But still, one whiner in 20 games? That is so much nicer than League.
So how does matchmaking work in hero league? Am I playing against people at my...rank? Skill level? How are "skill points" calculated? Right now I'm going +400/-100, which feels pretty nice, but certainly must end soon...
You have an MMR that is hidden. You will get a "skill bonus" on rank points you earn to try to get your rank to match your MMR. So, if you're top 20% you'll keep getting the huge gains until rank 10 or so.
I'm trying to get Murky to level 10, but the grind from 9 to 10 is so sloooow. Luckily, I got "play 8 games" quest 2 days in a row, so I can play my little fish all day long.
Official Solicitation for a Penny-Arcade Hot$ Team
I'm looking to make a team that would have members commit to (try) playing Team League once a week. I am personally thinking of doing a weekday night. Monday or Tuesday around 9 PM EST works best for me
Requirements
Be Account level 40
Own 10 heroes
Be able to commit to one night a week for a couple of hours
Ventrillo + Working Mic
Don't be a dick
If you would like to sign up, @ me in the thread and signup! in goldenrod, tell me what time/day works best for you, and suggest a team name. Sorry folks, no wangs allowed.
If we have a lot of signups we may need other info (what heroes you have/are good with, etc.) but I'll keep it simple for now.
I feel like the + working mic is aimed at someone familiar...
That's cool ppl are getting an official team together. I'll try and sign up if I can ever figure out why my mic doesnt work. Do well guys, rep the clan, post some replays. I'll be rooting for you.

LOLOL I'M DRUKN reynor runs into towers twice and then gives up halfway in and says he's just watching porn.

I kind of understand that, but it seems weird that my hidden MMR would be high because I feed like mad in QM (which is presumably where the initial hidden MMR came from?)--I almost certainly have under 50% winrate. But I do like seeing those points go up, so I'm not going to argue with it! Rank 30 at the moment; seriously need more champions and need to learn how to play ETC since he's the more meta of the two tanks I own (I have him and Stitches. I'm a support player in LoL, so I land hooks--but the one support I hate is Alistar, so, relatedly, I can't play ETC and find it aesthetically unappealing to be a bull.)
Putzing with Thrall.
I had dreams of going hypercarry with Seasoned Marksman & Windfury, but speccing him into Chain Lightning seems to be the way to go.
Once you get rolling with Forked Lighting & Follow Through, even the tanks melt.

While that's an interesting build, it's almost certain that a full Windfury build is going to do more damage. Windshear adds way more to your DPS than Follow Through because now you effectively have a much higher attack speed than marginally higher attack damage (which also gives you more sustain since Windfury heals you), Grace of Air gives you even more sustain and Tempest Fury is just legitimately crazy. That said, I normally grab the level 1 lightning talent because the extra range is great for picking off runners.
Also it's so fun watching him slam fools with the last hit of windfury.
Full Windfury is only good on paper in my experience.
In practice it is too contingent. You are a high-priority CC target, so you'll rarely get a full Windfury proc on a squishy.
It works way better to do slightly less damage to your favorite targets (which are probably going to die anyway, because Thrall does ridonculous amounts of damage), but to be able to do it from farther away and use Windfury to close and finish when the opportunities present themselves. Also Chain Lightning is less susceptible to things like Block & Evade, and spreads damage around teamfights more efficiently.

The problem is spreading damage is usually the opposite of what you want to do. It's usually best to focus down 1 target as quickly as possible (hopefully a healer or their main dps) to make it a 4v5. Windfury build usually works for me because I usually open fights with Sundering, which left almost everyone on their team immobile and lets me just beat on a squishy before they can recover. It's true that Thrall is usually CC'd and dies quickly when focused, but that's more of an issue of knowing when to go in and when to kite and just throw spells out. Doing more incidental spell damage seems a lot less useful to me than than doing magnitudes more single-target damage (with the exception being Triple Tap vs. Precision Strike, of course, because Precision Strike still does crazy damage).
Of course, I'm still in the learning process of that 'when to go in' thing and am a criminal over-committer, but gosh darnit, when I go in and die I'm taking somebody with me.
Unless they have an Abathur. In which case it's shields for days and I turn into a pillar of salt.
There's definitely room for both playstyles.
I just really enjoy the ability to do consistent damage while waiting for the light to turn green.
As Thrall you're not really in a hurry for that window to open - you have crazy good poke, crazy good sustain, great CC, and a strong initiation & counter-init in his ult. Time is totally on your side.

And not for the usual reasons people give cause I actually don't mind the map itself and the design.
I mean fuck Haunted Mines cause this stupid fucking map has some sort of -50% XP modifier on it or something. Win, lose, whatever, you are getting shit XP for the same time investment from this thing. And I have no idea why.

There's less raw XP available because you lose an entire lane of buildings to blow up and minions to kill. That amounts to a lot of XP over a game, especially considering most games on Mines people don't even bother to push in the non-golem lane at all, nevermind getting the fort.

So, the Starter Bundle with Muradin, Raynor and Malfurion has been -77% off (so, 5$) for basically the entire time I've seen it. Is that like a special deal for people in the beta, or will it run out? I can't find anything about it specifically. I have the money to get it but I'd rather wait if I can afford to.

Does anyone know how the MMR balances groups with wildly different HL Levels? Does it average it out or drag lower level players into higher tier matches (resulting in higher gains for the lower tier player?) OR does my lower HL level drag my higher tiered mates into lower tiered matches?
Not super relevant, just curious... I've only gotten started in HL and am sitting at lvl 47 or 48 and a few people I've grouped with randomly have been much higher than me (6/21/17)... still won the matches, but curious about what to expect for who I'm matched against.
Edit - I'm aware I could probably look up the above question with real interwebs, but my office filters cut off 90% of the fun parts of the net.... this is my most of my noob questions are posted here, part of the remaining 10%
(Also, how accurate is the HoT Slogs winrate % per hero? It tells me my Aba game is about a 73% win rate)

hotslogs is as accurate as you make it. If you upload every match you play its going to be accurate on everything you have done. Unfortunately its MMR guesses (at least for QM) are only as accurate as the other people you play and how much they upload (and to a lesser extent, others upload their games).
I dunno if there is a more obvious HL rating that makes it work more though.

Alright... I upload every match I play, so at least the winrate per hero is accurate then.

Why wait? 5 bucks for three good heroes. It's not going to get any cheaper.
CL and wolf builds blow. Windfury is life. Seasoned Marksman is a trap. Block is the only level 1 talent to take. You're welcome.
My only difficult choice on Thrall is level seven. 4 second redux on WF is HUGE, but Follow Through sets up for some crazy burst in late game. I guess what to take at 4 if the Envenom nerf turns out to be as bad as it sounds.
The only melee assassin who isn't getting a direct or indirect nerf in the patch is Zeratul, and he is already high tier. It might bring Sonya up a notch as well being that she is pretty much a pseudo-assassin. Then there's the butcher - I hope he's as mean and nasty as he looks.

He's. Problematic.
Tanks can generally kick his ass, but anything else better watch out because it's pretty much impossible to run from Illidan, because he has more charge attacks than you have gettaway buttons.
They're nerfing metamorphosis though.

Played three games with Thrall this morning. I feel like I'm getting a better handle on the game, but am reaching the point where playing with randoms who just mutely do their own thing as we lose is a bit of a downer. Also, due to the fast-paced nature of it, it feels like voice chat is absolutely required, but... nope.

Just Butcher, the map, and some or all of the bundles they've shown:
Butcher + skin + mount

Nova complete bundle (Nova + 3 skins)
Tyrael's Charger mount + possible Tyrael bundle?
