I'm hearing that the Texas attorney general is ordering clerks to ignore the Supreme Court ruling saying that Texas law supersedes them.
Not sure if true since it's only people on twitter saying it.
Oh man.
Please let this continue to escalate until the National Guard is literally rolling into Texas to get people gay married.
I think people wishing for more unrest and conflict miss the entire method by which we came to this point.
Let's take this victory with grace and joy, not vicious glee. We want acceptance, not deeper conflict.
Oh I think some vicious glee is due after the beatings both metaphorical and literal the ole lgbtqs have endured
Do you? You think we should wish for another desegregation episode?
I think we should wish for people to accept the decision and move forward.
I agree.
But when the AG is ordering clerks to ignore an explicit SCOTUS ruling, it's clear that Texas isn't accepting the decision.
Not that anyone wants the 101st (to have to) escort gays to the county clerk's office and have them issue marriage licenses, but if it does come to that I damn well want to see the Federal Government remind Texas what the Supremacy Clause means.
You know...if I were living in Texas, I would of course be glad, but I would get married in a different state and let the commerce clause do the dirty work, because I feel like during the first 6 months or so there are going to be some hate crimes in Dallas. Sorry @Atomika the residents of your state are assholes.
really hammers home how bad things would have been if McCain had won in 2008
if instead of Kagan we had another Scalia or Thomas or Alito
Yeah. That'd be the worst time line. The sad part is, that'd be the least bad we could have expected from him. And if he died in office, we'd get president Palin.

So, today the Supreme Court ruled in favor of nationwide marriage equality, which has inevitably led to people tweeting about their plans to move to Canada. There’s just onnnnnne thing…

“Displays of hate and intolerance against people of faith should be denounced by all people of good will and spark concern among anyone who believes in religious liberty and freedom for all.
Ahahahahaha. Texas AG is troubled by the ruling, because of hate and intolerance.

Also all the "lol poly next lol" stuff is funny because the new ruling is incredibly great for poly folks, especially those with an even number of people in the relationship.

Got reminded about the episode of Parks & Rec where Leslie holds a fake wedding ceremony for penguins in order to drum up some positive news, and it turns out they're gay penguins.
After today, that would be no problem at all!
For now, yeah. Maybe I'll look at the weekly update and see what they announced. My weekend started yesterday, and I played a combination of The Old Blood, Sunset Overdrive DLCs, and Far Cry 4 and was having a pretty good time. There might be some point when I get back to it, but I don't know when that is.
having read Scalia's rant there are some interesting points to be raised
i mean is he wrong to say it's somewhat problematic that an unelected and somewhat unrepresentative group of people can introduce controversial change?
no? i guess he isn't
put your unbiased hat on for a moment and consider that even if it occasionally farts out a result you like a bad system is still a bad system, just think of all the times it's farted out a result you didn't like
on the other hand do i find it easy to write off his opinion on the basis that he's being entirely hypocritical because he gave no shits when the system put out equally controversial and narrow results he liked
and yes we've had the discussion that being a hypocrite doesn't necessarily make you wrong but still

shut the fuck up Scalia
Hasn't the Supreme Court been grabbing further power since its inception?
Like, to pretend the Supreme Court doesn't have the ability to make controversial decisions stick requires assuming a huge number of previous rulings should not have been made.

A constitutional law class I took had a pretty on the nose opinion about the supreme court. "The law is what 5 out of 9 people think it is. "
