pixels has the same cinemascore as jack and jill, a film that made back it's budget in the domestic box office and was the last time everyone was wondering if adam sandler was doomed because holy shit.
Jack and Jill did not make back its budget domestically. It made $74 million. It (somehow) had a budget of $79 million. Perhaps it might have been a success if it was part of an embezzling scheme.

All Adam sander movies literally are embezzlement schemes.
I can't remember my first R-rated movie, probably something like Alien, Terminator or Robocop on TV. Although I think the first R-rated one in cinema was probably Saving Private Ryan when we were on vacation in the US.

Yeah my mom didn't really mind me watching R rated movies. My first movie memories come from the Alien films after all. There were some exceptions, but I think by 15 or so I pretty much had free range. Though she did require me to read plenty to be able to watch movies/tv and play video games. Which good on her!
Though were banned from MTV and VH1. Not out of like content problems. But because my cousin who lived with us had the nasty habit of switching between songs. Never letting a single song finish, and that drove her insane.

Strangely enough, I came remember what my first full R movie was. Maybe Major League? My dad nearly burned that VHS copy out watching it.
Edit: actually, it might have been Die Hard. We had a copy we taped off of Showtime that started recording late, so it didn't start until McClane arrived at Nakatomi Plaza. It was in a weird aspect ratio too, like they took the letterbox and stretched it vertically to make it 4:3.

I had VHS copy of Major League I taped off of HBO that I watched at least 200 times.
I accidentally hit record with it in the vcr one time and right wheb Pedro Cerrano hits the tying 2 run home run in the last game there was like 5 seconds of an episode of Doug.

I'm going to guess mine was either Die Hard or Stripes.
I certainly hope whoever went to see it because of me enjoyed his time sitting in a two hours movie because he was too salt to admit the movie will be trash.

well see pixels is only an hour and forty six minutes
but yeah, i did.
in fact i would say it was a good movie, one of the best of 2015
Pixels made less than half of industry projections. Finally, Sandler films are going into decline. Could our long national nightmare be coming to an end?
No, because it's all doing really well overseas
Pixels debuted to an estimated $24 million from 3,723 theaters, not a good start for a summer tentpole that cost Sony and its financing partners at least $88 million to produce after rebates. The movie hopes to make up ground overseas, but is off to a muted start with $25.5 million to date from 56 markets for a global total of $50.4 million.
"doing really well" is kinda kinda giving too much credit. the movie might make its budget back in the long run but in no way is it going to be considered a financial success
I just saw Pixels and really liked it. I almost didn't go because a lot of the reviews were super bad. But I noticed that some of the reviews were more just insulting Sandler personally than actually constructive which seemed odd, but I don't normally follow the reviews. Oh, and I get it, Futurama did it first.
I clicked a random critic on metacritic and this guy who gave a great review for Attack of the Clones but shits on Pixels like its a crime against humanity but somehow Ep2 has well-written dialogue?
...okay
Also, I'm having a really hard time remembering what my first real R rated movie was. I saw so many R rated movies as a kid during the summers when they'd air the edited for broadcast TV versions on Saturday afternoon. I still occasionally see an older movie thats different from how I remember it, like when I finally rented The Goonies on DVD it blew my mind there was any swearing at all. Oh man, a big shocker was seeing that dude in Robocop get hit by the car because the TV version just shows Red Foreman swerving around him.

I think it's more like...a perfect storm of Adam Sandler shitshow/lazy nostalgia cash-in/telling gamers they're Important and Special (see also: Armada)
I thought it was possibly good after seeing the trailer, but after the Western film news I'm pretty ok with not seeing it.

R in the US is 18+ unless you're with a parent or guardian. As I found out, guardian does not mean "be with someone who is 18+" as my girlfriend at the time, her brother and I went to see Interview with the Vampire for a second time. We weren't 18 yet, but her brother was. They wouldn't sell us tickets, so we left, he went back in to a different booth and just bought three tickets. Problem solved!
Strangely enough, it's 17+
I have also managed to con my way into a number of R movies. It helped that my parents did not give a shit and I could fall back on the "here call my parents and ask them if it's ok" deal.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
The demographics of the Big Bang theory are what really puts the zap on my head, in my family at least the older and crankier you are the more you watch it
Broke as fuck in the style of the times. Gratitude is all that can return on your generosity.

I'm pretty sure without an ID I'd have problems getting into an R-rated movie nowadays and I'm almost 27.

not becaues i think it's a good movie or anything
but because it feels like it has relatively little to do with the quality of the film and more to do with the fact that it's about video games
if this was just anothre Adam Sandler shitshow i don't think people would be talking about it nearly as much
i can't help but think back to when people were calling Big Bang Theory "nerd blackface"
