So I saw a trailer for the new woody Allen movie and I was like huh what's this and then oh wait it's about an older man in a relationship with a woman thirty years younger than him, what else could woody Allen ever write about

Yeah, movies with relationships between a young woman and a much older man is such an anomaly in Hollywood.

No but most of those aren't written by adult men who raped 8 year old girls

    But nice glibness

Woody Allen just happens to be someone who failed to cover up his misconduct.

The sad truth is that sex abuse is very prevalent in Hollywood.

Sure, you can single out someone like Woody Allen but sex abuse is so common that almost every movie has something illegal, like actors having to sleep with producers to get jobs or sex filled drug parties or something even worse like young kids being exploited, going on behind the scenes.

OK, I admit I don't know anything about that, but

Why would you use that to reduce Woody Allen raping a child by saying he "just happens to be someone who failed to cover up his misconduct"

Woody Allen adopted a young girl with his then wife.

At some point later, this girl grew up and he left his wife to have a sexual relationship with her.

Sorry for the misunderstanding but that's not what I meant.

I meant that this kind of thing happens so often in Hollywood that you can't even go to the movies if you consider what's actually going on behind the scenes. You'd have to do research to make sure that a movie didn't have illegal things going on behind the scenes if you don't want to support that Hollywood culture.

If Woody Allen's career had to survive long enough just to get to Match Point it would be worth it

Match Point is a riposte against Crime and Punishment that got dunked on by Crime and Punishment.

Seriously, it's amazing. Crime and Punishment was written over a century earlier, and it casually demolishes every argument Match Point tries to make. Plus it inspired Columbo.

    Well worth a read.

The first one was written with Chris Farley, and then shelved for a decade after he died.

I always had George Clooney pegged as some sort of suave criminal genius, who robs Las Vegas casinos and gets away with it.

There is that recent documentary An Open Secret.

However, I have had some personal experience, albeit mostly on the periphery.

I've had a few friends who were (aspiring) actors. They told me a lot of depressing things. A lot of it was "minor" stuff like a female Asian friend who wasn't really skinny and didn't know martial arts (although, she was a dancer) so could never get considered for a role, she even had some trouble getting to be an extra. But there were also some much more serious accusations. And there were a few occasions when I had to go help take them home from parties and they were not in a good state. Luckily, there weren't any OD incidents. But there was one time when I had to abandon my car and we had to use the bus, which was a huge pain in the ass.

During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, I helped a family friend who worked on the marketing and promotion for the Olympics. There were a lot of special parties thrown for celebrities and people in the entertainment industry, both Chinese and foreign. Some of them were pretty "tame," although they were still extremely lavish with ridiculously expensive food and drinks. But there were other parties with a lot of shady things going on and I helped check English translations for some of those parties that mentioned some pretty illegal things.

Judge away. I'm not saying that you can't or shouldn't judge him or that he's not a terrible person. But Hollywood is filled with so many terrible people that you'll exhaust yourself out on outrage before you can even scratch the surface.

I enjoyed the U.N.C.L.E. trailer because the teased sex scene with the woman actually had her instigating the encounter, instead of her going "come hither!" she's "I'm going hither!"

The movie will probably disappoint me but I'm still going to try and have money to see it.
