Another question about this DS homebrew (sorry if it was covered elsewhere) how does the DS Lite work as a music player? Like as far as sound quality and file types go?
It'll play just about any unencrypted file type through Moonshell, but the bass response is a little poor sometimes.
Another homebrew I don't think has been mentioned here yet: PLOP Invaders
Oh gawd... I have seen similar type of gameplay before elsewhere (probably was Flash-based,) but something about this particular pieces of code... I was so frustrated last night because my gf didn't come home early enough to stop me from playing. You guys should definitely give it a whirl!
plop invaders is definitely one of the Top 3 homebrew puzzle games on the DS (there are a lot of awesome homebrew puzzle games too!). i'm not sure if they've changed things since i last played it, but it can be confusing figuring out what you're supposed to do for a while, as everything was in french. i wrote up a little summary on how to play the game recently, if you're having trouble getting into it.
For anyone that ordered from Dealextreme - how long did it take for you to get your R4? I ordered 9/22 and it hasn't even left Hong Kong yet. Everything else I ordered shipped yesterday but the R4 still shows "ordered" as it's status - that they are waiting for it to arrive from their suppliers.
Dealextreme is notorious for some long shipping times sometimes. I've had experiences from them anywhere between 5 days and 3 weeks. But they've always shipped (6 times so far) and their prices are worth a little patience for me.
I've heard that they tend not to work if you used the free shipping option and that they sometimes show up in the USPS tracking the day after they get delivered

My order status says it's been shipped, but the tracking number isn't working on the Hong Kong Post site. Any idea why?
No real idea, but it seems that the HK post site won't actually recognise the existence of the package until it's processed at the central depot. Which could be in a couple of days. But it will work eventually....
What's the deal with the CycloDS? Anybody got one of those? They look pretty good but besides the higher compatibility with download games I can't see any reason for them to be more expensive than the R4DS (and also out of stock everywhere). Is there something I'm missing? I think I'll just order the R4DS unless somebody can tell me why I should wait.
And on that note, what's a good Canadian store? I want it inside of Canada so I don't get killed by Customs fees. Anybody had good luck with Gamersection?
I don't think I found any Canadian places when I ordered my R4, but if you found one, you might as well give it a try. You can always check resellerratings.com, I guess. However, I didn't have any problems with customs when I ordered mine from an American store. I think they labeled it as a sample or something, although I'm not too sure on the details.
Notable changes:
Interface overhaul
Replaying drawings is more user friendly
Ability to continue drawing from any given point of a replay
Email your pictures to yourself, and they are redrawn at 1024x768 (there have been problems with this causing networks to hang apparently, though I don't have a wireless router so haven't tried it out)
New brush option: Pressure controls brush size
It works perfectly. Perfectly! Wifi multiplayer, support for the opera browser GBA RAM pak and other RAM stuffs (only needed for memory-heavy mods, don't use it for normal Quake or it will slow down slightly), no more watching every texture in the room visibly load or seeing the framerate drop to single digits in Necropolis. At least not very much. Shit, this is awesome. I'm editing the title.
Ah, I saw the new Quake release as well, but have not had the time to load it up and give it a try. Makes me wish I had another DS and some way to run servers from my computer. (It doesn't support ad-hoc in this build, does it?)
Here I had thought it was a dead project. I saw something about bindable screen buttons... Can you double-tap jump, by chance? (If not, it should at least make weapon switches easier.)
I haven't downloaded Quake yet either - I'm still working on finding my ROTT, Doom and Descent disks to give them a try. Frankly Lemmings DS and Colors have been eating up a large chunk of my time - I LOVE Colors.
resurrecting an old thread. so with school done, wanna get some reading done. anyone have much experience getting ebooks running on the ds?? i tried dsorganize, but it seemed like it was gonna take forever to open an ebook in htm format. any suggestions?

Man too bad a publisher doesn't sweep in and publish that shit officially.

I used Moonshell for some plain text ebooks, don't think it does HTML though.
Unfortunately, there's a catch. You have to have external memory, like the EZ 3-in-1, in order to play. I've been wanting to get my hands on one, but just haven't had the money/motivation. With this release, however...
It has definitely gone a long way since the 1fps demo on youtube.
EDIT: While I'm posting here, try Pocket Physics as well. It's a sweet little program.

My EZ 3-in-1's battery died and rumble motor broke, but it should still work as a RAM cart. EZ Flash 1-in-1, go!
Note: that thing says it needs 16 MB of external RAM, so the Opera Browser DS cart won't work, as it's only got 8 megs.
Preferably: Anyone know where I can get one IN PERSON around NYC? I don't think anyone's stocking them anymore. I have a slot 2 device but I'm getting sick of it. Works fine for most homebrew but the R4 autopatcher makes it sound even easier to use.

I am not some how running a boardgame that is a rip-off of scrabble on my DS.

I'm ready for some old school FPS action - how are the Doom/Quake/Duke3d/Decent/ROTT ports coming along?
DScent port is damn near perfect, as are Doom and Wolf3D ports. Don't think anyone's working on the Duke one anymore.
QuakeDS is playable, but doesn't have networking yet. The framerates are occasionally a little low but it's quite good all things considered.
@ Daedalus: I get lots of crashes in DScent. You're using an EZFlash V, right? What version of DScent do you use?
I dunno, whatever version was on his site at the time.
Try playing with the read speed of your MicroSD card; it's in the EZV options menu.
I actually have an R4. I'll have to poke around a little.
Out of curiosity, how does the DSDoom file structure need to be setup?

It's walking a razor's edge, man.
it is all your fault.
maybe this is the wrong time of day for this subject!
anyways I will stop derailing this thread now.
Colors! v1.06 has been released.
