I'm looking at the M3 Real, does anyone have any experience with that one? Heard som nice things about it from a friend but he aint exactly the gizmoking.
It's pretty good, but pricier than it needs to be, and IIRC it doesn't do SDHC (unless I'm thinking of the M3 Simply).

You know any that is as good but cheaper?
The DSTT is $20 at DealExtreme.
I know the menus are rather poor on the DSTT, but how's the homebrew?

Looking for a DX:HR OnLive code for my kid brother.

Is there any easy way to test if the chip will support the SDHC format outside of purchasing the card? I mean, I have the R4DS, and there was something about a firmware patch for that, maybe?
Usually it will be a heavily-advertized feature. I can only tell you from my own experience that the DSTT and CycloDS Evo support SDHC and that the EZFlash V does not; I haven't ever used any other cards.

Ah ok, but you said the DSTT wasn't that great? But they're equal or what?

The DSTT is probably the best card you can get that isn't a CycloDS Evo. Compared to the Cyclo it isn't that great, but that's true of every card that's not a Cyclo. It costs a third as much, though, so it's what I bought once my shit-tastic EZFlash V died.
Be warned that the free shipping from DealExtreme is rather slow. On the bright side, it's free shipping from Hong Kong, with tracking number and delivery confirmation (and you have to sign for the package).

There's a new EZV "Plus" that has SDHC.
After the amazingly poor level of support that their past card recieved, particularly with respect to homebrew, I'd advise against it, although I guess somebody has to be the guinea pig.

I see. I'm a bit of a noob at this but what makes CycloDS so superior?
And thanks for all the great advice! How long did DealExtreme take for your order?

Like two friggin' weeks. But it was all the way from Hong Kong, so there's that.

Sry, had a feeling you already did it. Gonna have a look before asking next time.

I own the M3 Real, and it does indeed do SDHC. I have a 4GB SDHC card and it works fine. Haven't had any issues with running anything on it so far.

I must have been thinking of the M3 Simply, then. I can never remember the differences between the two.
If you guys want to buy cards for homebrew, Real Hot Stuff is pretty rockin'. They got a Supercard DS 1 to me in about 3 days using USPS. Also I'd recommend the DS 1 or the R4 for homebrew, they're pretty nice. You can also get the EZ flash 3-in-1 and combo it with em to use GBA homebrew (sadly there isn't all that much).
EDIT: Oh yes, forgot to mention something: most slot 1 cards these days autopatch dldi which makes homebrew real quick, just drag-drop stuff onto the sd card. I'll also have to second the recommendation of Kingston Japan or Transcend sd cards. Both are fantastic.
On yet another note, the tyrian port is fantastic. A little slow, but still very good.
Animanatee has not been mentioned, and it is the most user-friendly animation program available.

Do they deliver over seas?
Apparently they do, but it's with fedex international which might be prohibitively pricey. You'd have to check shipping fees yourself on that one.
More new interesting homebrew! From the Retro Rocket site:
RetroRocket is a high paced action game inspired by classic gravity games like Thrust and the amiga game TurboRaketti II.
Features:
* Single and multiplayer games
o DS-to-DS (liblobby) communication for multiplayer support, no accesspoint needed.
* All original TurboRaketti-II maps
* All original Thrust levels
* Real time strategy mode where you can collect resources and buy weapons and upgrades
* New two-player Thrust-like games where each player tries to collect more balls than the opponent
* Autogeneration of maps (thanks to Kyrre Glette for programming)
* Menus with stylus support
I am really looking forward to trying out the liblobby multiplayer. The RTS mode is pretty strange, though. You use a special gun to take resource points, which then slowly give you money to buy more guns and ammo.
Just to check, the R4DS is good for a newbie from what I read here?
Yes, it's extremely easy to use. I can't answer your other questions though
It's all I needed to know, ordered.
Edit: I bought the R4DS with a 1gb micro Toshiba Sd card from Real Hot Stuff. You guys think 1GB will be enough for most homebrew? and Toshiba was a good brand correct?

1gb if fine for homebrew, most are only a handful of mb. I have a 2gb card with mine and it only gets full if I put on videos/mp3s

Sounds good. This was all actually on a whim really for me. I was walking around a Yamada Denki in Beppu when I saw one of those red and black DS lites, so I grabbed it with a copy of Disgaea DS. I'm really looking forward to trying some of this homebrew though.

Homebrew ports of some games will take up a lot of space: Quake and Quake 2 are a couple hundred megs each, and some ScummVM games are large. But 1GB is fine for most purposes: I started with that and got a 2GB stick later on when I found one cheap.
Allright, I'm just about to order a DSTT. If anyone has any suggestion to any alternatives that are better and still reasonably priced I would really appreciate if you give them now. PA is a source of information about these sort of things and I sure as hell aint gonna waste it!
I wonder what kind of duty/customs you'd get hit with when ordering from dealextreme... because they have the CycloDS for half the price it would cost me to order from a canadian reseller, plus the no shipping. Hmm.
I ordered my r4 from overseas and I didn't pay on duty on it when I picked it up. If you did have to pay duty I would reckon it would be $5 or something like that, nothing bad at all.

MAN I just found out that dealextreme had the cycloDS! I wanted that over the DSTT... oh well. And as for importing. If you get caught (with some sites you always get caught, with some never) you have to pay your countries' standard tax, for example 19% in Holland, bringing the total to 28 euros, which is just fine HAD I KNOW ABOUT IT.
Has anyone ordered from Real Hot Stuff? If you have do you know if they bill you once you place the order (lie immediately once the CC is verified) or if it is billed only upon shipping? I hit a small snag and this has become a very important distinction.
Edit: And due to server wonkyness, I cannot actually recover my current account listing charges, so yes it was the first thing I tried obviously.

I'm in the US, and I never had to pay anything extra.
Yup, free shipping. I ordered it on Wednesday, they sent it on Thursday, and it arrived today. I was quite surprised, as everyone keeps saying they take about two weeks to deliver.

I and several real life friends have ordered from them, but I'm afraid I don't know when they charge you. I'm sorry to hear that you hit a snag, but you can always contact their support by email. Good luck, man.
The reason they can offer free shipping is because they mislabel the package for customs and hope nobody checks it. When I got my R4 it was labeled as an "LED Flashlight" on the package with a worth of "Less than 20USD" when I clearly paid more for it.

Hmm, weird. Mine was labeled "Nintendo DS Accesories".
Argh! They just sent the DSTT I ordered and now i discover that they have the CycloDS. Fuck.
Hmm, really: What am I missing with the DSTT? Should I sulk or are things gonna be just fine?

It's not that big a deal. Go spend the twenty dollars you saved on a bigger SD card.

That's reassuring, thx! I'm looking at the SanDisk Mobile Ultra Micro Secure Digital (SDHC) 4GB, should be fine, yes?

Edit: Also does anyone know the best place to get one shipped TO Japan? I looked at that deal extreme site, but I cannot find anything better.
Edit2: I mean that Real Hot Stuff site, $22 shipping to Japan for something that small seems ... extreme.

Damn, with the free shipping? Wow, they must just suck at shipping stuff to the US.

DSTT works just fine. I got the Supercard to be cool. It has super in the name. But now you're telling me the bestest is a Cyclo?
Any suggestions for the Supercard?
Lots of nice looking Homebrew stuff I want to try out, especially that Colours program.
So near yet so far, will have to resist the urge to buy another SD as the one on the way to me is 4GB so I don't need another
I want to know more PA people on Twitter.
