Need advice on new summer job

Hello,

So I just started a summer part time job at a local hairdressers. So far I'm really enjoying it although it's not overly busy (compared to my last part time job at a restaurant anyway) the pay is actually really good. So all is well but recently I got a reply from this theatre company that I auditioned with and they have accepted me on their 10 day workshop at the end of July, start of August. I completely forgot about this project I applied for and was so happy when I got accepted as the woman has a professional theatre company so getting training from her is obviously a big deal especially as next year I hope to study drama at university.

I haven't asked my boss if I can have the days off yet as I'll be needing 4 days off and I've only just started. My boss is lovely but I'm sure this won't sound great :/

So if you were me would you ask my boss if I can have the time off or just reject the offer for the project?
As a side note, I was all for doing the project especially when I got accepted but my parents have turned me off doing the project as they say I should work and save the money for uni. :/ any advice is appreciated, thanks :)

Unless she's really petty it's not going to hurt at all to ask. If she says yes you can do the project. If she says no then it's up to you to decide which is more important to you.

I would speak to your boss. It sounds like a good learning experience and 4 days off with a month's notice isn't too bad really. Worst she can say is no, you can't have those days off.

Yeah, talk to your boss. Depending on the situation and the nature of your job, you could also ask if it'd be possible to work extra hours before the workshop, to make up for the days off.

Regarding your parents' comments, this sounds like a training opportunity that'll help you at uni, as well as in your future career if you stay in the field. The older you get, the less time you have to take advantage of opportunities like this, so, go for it now.

Thank you so much for your replies. I'll talk to her on Monday as you're right, the worst that can happen is she says no.
