Don't be afraid to jump between trilogies as well if you like Rorona. Every game is different and some are more structured while others are very non-linear freeform.

Awesome. Just remember that the Alchemy is really the meat of the game, especially in the Arland trilogy. The combat for the Atelier series doesn't really do anything special until Escha & Logy, then it REALLY got fun in those last two Dusk game IMO.

That's the biggest difference between the trilogies for me at least. Arland has great diverse alchemy that makes you think, but the combat is pretty samey. The Dusk trilogy made giant leaps in the combat for the last two games, but the Alchemy suffered for it in my eyes. Also, the Dusk series stops the trend of the limited time nature that was in the Arland series, to the point that when you hit Shallie time is no longer a factor. It got a mixed response, but for me anything that stops the bullshit trend of bosses you can't beat without playing through the game 2 or 3 times is fine by me.

Really wish they'd give an Atelier game away with PS+. Seems like a golden opportunity to bring new blood to the series. I imagine there's plenty of jrpg fans who haven't given it a shot, either because they don't know if they'd like the alchemy stuff, or because the moe art designs are big turn off.

Nothing stopping you from just playing 3 and then going back. It's probably the best game in the series, outside of Victory II which the English speaking world hasn't played yet.

Well, there's nothing wrong with Estival (I hope... It's not available in NA yet as far as I know), but Senran Kagura 2 on 3DS is disappointingly bad. Someone decided that the gameplay in SK2 should be utter shit :(

That's actually why I would recommend against playing 3 first - everything comes together in 3 such that you don't really want to start at the high point of the series(or any series really, generally speaking). If anything, just grab 3 for now and sit on it until the others eventually go on sale again.

Combat started getting decent in Totori and Meruru was more focused on combat/adventure especially compared to the prior two Arland games. The Dusk series reintroduced the whole frontline/backline that made Mana Khemia so damn good and Shallie just went full bore on that. I haven't put my proper dues into the Dusk trilogy but I felt that the equippable items system to be a massive streamlining when it comes to getting items for combat. Less time sunk to prepare and a bit more consistent with the strength of items in combat and it helps enforce decisions throughout the entire game on item usage. I remember dragging along a full bag of supplies in the Arland series and just spammed items non-stop.

Oh I agree that Totori and Meruru were more focused on combat and exploring than previous entries, but the combat was still rather cliche. That ultimately made both of those games especially tiresome to get through, with Meruru hiding party members and final bosses from you through multiple playthroughs, and Totori just due to the 5 year unguided wander it expects you to do. I would still consider the Atelier series' evolution to be positive over the last few trilogies, with the exception of the alchemy in the last two. I'm hoping Atelier Sophie's new alchemy system helps with that, while mostly keeping the old combat system.

And still waiting for an Atelier game to say its name correctly, of course...

Yeah... it came out at the same time as Amnesia: Memories a few weeks ago. I just haven't gotten around to buying it yet myself.

Unless he's talking about Steins Gate 0 which is coming out in japan uh... soonish. (I admit I don't follow Japanese releases of VN's much since I can't play them.)

Anyhoo-- About Atelier Ayesha. It was a fun game, but yeah, I felt like it was kinda more of a pain to make really AWESOME high grade stuff like I could do the Arland series. Also, I found that a lot of the people in Ayesha were kinda more... normal. I kinda liked the off-kilter-ness of the casts in Arland. But eh, that's just a minor complaint.
(and it got kinda gross with Astrid in Meruru, so that's probably why they dialed it back a little I would imagine.)

    Lovely on

I rather like the more 'normalness'... you know, outside the whole androids and witches. Miners, Government Agents, Travelers, Grumpy Old Alchemists with zero tact and social skills. Still, you realize some characters are less 'normal' as you complete their stories.

As for Steins;Gate, it came out in Europe a while ago but the console versions finally got a North American release a few weeks ago. I still think it's super shitty that PQube, the PS3/Vita publisher, doesn't credit JAST and Lemnisca Translations despite wholesale using their entire translation with some age edits. Way to take credit for shit you didn't do.

But yeah, Steins;Gate is incredible and very much worth playing on PC, PS3, or Vita.

Not really. The rights for the script are probably in 5pb's and/or Nitroplus's hands being the developers and original publishers of the game.

But yes, it's the exact same translation word for word.

I do want to get this, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. But it's $50, and no amount of Atlus love justifies that kind of assault on my wallet, especially for a Vita rhythm game with DLC on top of it.

That feeling when you ground out the materials to make a new weapon for Nep-Nep, and completely forget to actually equip it on her for a whole chapter. The only reason I remembered was that I made the next higher level beam katana, and then saw it.

Silly thing to post and obviously VERY late to the game, but I finally got around to picking up Patapon during the flash sale, $1.80 well spent. I played some back in the PSP days that a friend let me borrow, but for some reason I never really tried to grind for materials and moneys before. I can feel the hooks, guys. They're digging in to me pretty hard right about now. Plus, my 4.5 year old absolutely LOVES watching me play this game. This morning, instead of bouts of "LET IT GO!", I caught her singing, "PATA PATA PATA PON!"

Man, it feels weird when you the point in Rebirth1 when you have too many people to actually put in the party. Can't really decide on who I want my front line to actually be, other than NepNep must always be in the party (because it's her game, duh).

Also can't ever get a good read on when it'd be a good time to actually set elemental attacks in combos.

Played the first Patapon way back. Got one of the sequels a few months back. Put on my headphones and fired it up. Husband glanced over and saw me bobbing my head and moving the Vita up and down. "Oh, are you playing Patapon?!"

Breaking news for you PSTV/Vita TV owners.

There's a Whitelist hack patch that just released for it, installable over the e-mail client, that makes a shitton more games compatable. Like... playing Gravity Rush on the PSTV.

The other new hack was for Custom Themes.
