There's a couple things that the game could stand to communicate better that I keep seeing people do wrong and it hurts me:
    1) Don't boost after you've sonic boomed. If there's purple jets trailing from your tires then you're already at max speed and any extra boost is wasted. You'll stay at max speed until you take off the gas or start turning too much.
    2) Flip like crazy to cover ground quickly while conserving boost. You can hit max speed in just a few flips (both forwards and in reverse) without even touching the boost.

I've found that flipping like crazy is great for getting back and covering, but if you're racing back for a save, you really don't want to risk a weird flip. Boost is a renewable resource and you're gonna lose it anyway if they score.

Also I've now several times managed to do a 180 turn while flipping, none of them intentional. If I knew what I was doing, that'd be a great little trick to have in your back pocket.

Yeah, flipping is better for large space traversal, but you want to use boost to get going a bit quicker.

    Is anyone else confused by the ball physics? Its forward momentum is off a soccerball but it's downward momentum is that of a balloon for some reason, if you juggle it in to the air or bop it for a set up it floats down and messing up your timing, I find myself often just backing up a lot and just waiting for the ball to come down;

While waiting for the ball to come down I make circuitous loops so I still have speed instead of trying to line up and hit it from a dead stop, but the same idea.

Kronovi said during one of his streams you want to be hitting the ball when it's right at its peak in the air. I've been trying to teach myself to go get it and not sit around waiting for it to come down.

Apparently if you get three Holy Saves within seconds of each other, you get Savior. First time I've been MVP in a game we've won without actually scoring a goal or getting an assist.

    It's actually 3 saves in a game. Like 3 goals in a game makes a hat-trick.

Yeah, the faster it's moving, the harder it is to hit. It's slowest at the peak, and you get the most control over it. Also, you will beat like 90% of people to it since everyone pretty much waits for it to fall

At its peak, as in high up in the air? Because I loose all control when in air or can't high enough. I can only do defensive aerial but I have no clue how to smash the ball down in a direction. Every movement I make while in air just spins me in an uncontrollable way to the ground.
I've seen Kronovi stay airborn while gracefully dunk the ball in to goals and directions and such.

It's also a great time to smash all the people sitting there waiting for the ball to drop.

What I do is point in a direction (angled upward) and let go of the stick. I use boost to help me meet the ball and to keep me in the air, but only make tiny adjustments with the stick

Edit: Play around in Free Play a bit and see how long you can keep yourself flying, as well as get used to the controls

I made an aerial goal the other day that made me feel like a total badass. Too bad it was probably the Rocket League equivalent of the hitting a home run off a tee ball. The ball popped straight up on kickoff and I was able to just boost in and nudge it in the right direction.

I think that is why I like this game so much, because no matter how bad you are sometimes you accidentally play like Messi.

At least it doesn't announce who scored in their own goal.

The original track it was based on was sort of doughnut-shaped with the goals back to back (you could drive through them to get to other side of map). I guess the devs aren't ready to unleash new map layouts.

It looks cool but with it just being a reskin I can't get that excited. I would definitely like to see alternate map layouts to make things interesting. Maybe they will not do that because of "esports" though.

There are lots of esports with nontrivial alternate maps. I mean just look at CSGO, the different maps they play on make up the basis for the entire game's strategic layer.

No reason esports precludes them from changing up the layout of the field, they just need to make sure it doesn't break anything.

One of the maps from the first game was on the deck of a pirate ship. Kronovi said you could use the masts to bounce shots into goal.

I think part of the appeal of the new game is the consistency of the maps, but I wouldn't mind a seperate mode or something with some crazy maps.

So Psyonix have posted this trailer for the new DLC pack:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3YdFnQKf_Y

    Details:
    FREE
    • New map
    • Spectator
    • Fixes
    • Enhancements
    • New song
    • More flags
    $3.99
    • 2 new cars - Dominus / Takumi
    • 2 new boosts
    • 5 new paint types
    • 2 new wheel sets
    • 12 different/new decals
    • New trophies

$3.99 seems really reasonable to me, though we'll see how that translates through SCEE to the UK price.

Also, have to say, I'm really liking the look of the Dominus.

Thank you! Thank you very much!

We’re extremely excited about the success of Rocket League since its launch on July 7th, with more than 5 million combined downloads between PC and PS4 in less than a month! -- and we couldn’t have done it without you!

To celebrate the big news, we thought we’d bring you a complete rundown of what to expect in our upcoming “Supersonic Fury” DLC Pack.

As we've teased on Twitter, the Supersonic Fury DLC Pack includes two brand new Battle-Cars: the over-the-top American muscle car Dominus, and the souped-up Japanese street racer Takumi. Both of these vehicles offer six different Decals for Garage customization (12 total) and are only available for play in the DLC.

Besides the new Battle-Cars, the DLC Pack also includes two all-new Rocket Boosts (“Nitrous” and “Burnout”), two new Wheel sets (the soccer ball-themed “Cristiano” and the very-cool “Spinner” set), five all-new Paint Types (“Brushed Metal,” “Carbon Fiber,” “Metallic Pearl,” “Pearlescent,” and “Wood”), and a handful of new Trophies. This entire collection will be available in early August for $3.99/ €3.99.

In addition to the Supersonic Fury DLC, we will also release a free game update that offers an assortment of new content, including our first new map, Utopia Coliseum, and more than 70 new country flags. The long-awaited “Spectator Mode” will be in there too, allowing viewers to watch live games in real-time from any angle in the arena. Spectator controls are very similar to that of our existing “Replay Viewer’s,” so start practicing now and get ready for the drop!

Further enhancements, like updated Goal explosions and Demolitions, are planned for the free update as well, along with the brand new song, “Firework,” from the critically-acclaimed electronica group, Hollywood Principle.

It is our sincere hope that this mix of paid DLC and free add-on content is what Rocket League fans have been waiting for, and it’s just the beginning of what is plenty more to come. Thanks once again for your continued support and we’ll see you again very, very soon.

How do you maneuver when the ball is right next to you? The turning arc of the cars is so huge that it feels like there's a magnetic field around the ball that's pushing you around it.

Forgive me @downer, those were not my best games. In my defense though, I was fighting a different controller than what I'm used to, so I'm gonna blame that. Still, fun games though!

I've found some level of success by jumping and spinning in midair.

Turn into it letting off gas or even braking if need be, it's rarely going to traveling as fast as top speed

Jump and then jump sideways into if angle is right

    *edit*
Forgot most important part: Say "Shit, sorry" into vent because the angle is never right

I think I achieved the last trophy that isn't collection-based last night. Now it's time to just keep playing. Maybe one day I can learn how to fly worth a damn - I got 1/10 on the rookie training, and that was by cheating and knocking the ball in from the ground :(
