Played some more with a bronze buddy and plat pal (see what I did there?) and dipped back down to Gold, but it was fun! Then my bronze friend had to go and we continued to pull back up into plat (my other friend went to plat 2) and into a 5 game win streak. I'm up to 8 wins. 4 more and I'll be happy with this season.
Woo, went on a pretty hot streak (won 3 more for an 8-win streak), then dropped 2 games before winning my last one for plat rewards!
I feel like I'm pretty close to hitting plat 2 as well!

God dammit. I was two wins away from Diamond rewards, then fell back into plat and could never quite claw my way back out. I was like Icarus, flying too close to the sun...
Made it up to plat 2! Probably should quit for now while I'm ahead
There were certainly qualifying games for me where I was carried to a win and the opposite - losing due to AFK players or just crappy players. I think most of my win streaks (while playing alone) come from a luck of the draw with teammates.

OK, so it looks like Plat 3 is pretty attainable for me. Working through my gold rewards already. I want to try to get diamond rewards this season... we'll see if I can manage that.
I rarely play ranked these days because everyone I used to play with doesn't play any more. Haven't played through the whole season since Season 2. I played a bit of solo standard in season 5 but it takes so long to queue that I kind of stopped. But I do my placements every season. Got placed Diamond III in Standard of all things. I've barely played Standard because I have to solo queue and it's always a gamble as to what kind of team mates you'll get. I mean, you always get that in Solo Standard, but you know what you're in for. Anyway, I ground up a few wins and got the promotion. And I didn't feel like I was getting carried either. Felt like I was contributing.
Fuck 1v1 though. I'm so bad, I can't stay diamond. Actually, I feel like the people who beat me are worse. But I keep losing, so I must be bad.
So after 2000 hours of mostly unranked, I made it. Maybe I can keep climbing. It'd be pretty sweet to hit GC. A man can dream...

Congrats Dave! I finally hit Diamond last season in 3s, then just before the reset got it in 2s. Placed Plat 3 and got back to D1 already and want to secure that before I do my Standard placements.
1v1 is crazy inconsistent to me. I feel like as I move through Platinum and Diamond levels of other playlists that I'm seeing differences in playstyles depending on the rank I'm facing. I bounce between Gold 2 and Plat 3 in 1v1 and at any of those levels I'm randomly facing someone who I feel bad about playing or someone who should feel bad about crushing me. I honestly only play it now while watching Netflix or something on the other monitor so that I'm not annoying teammates if I get distracted.
they're pretty fun but nothing to get too hyped about until it's in the live release
the ui is good and seems to be stable

Some notes from my experience with the tournament beta for folks that haven't checked it out themselves:
If you want to join a 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4 (yep) tournament then you already have to have the appropriate sized party formed to even register for it - no hopper to combine solo entrants for team tourneys.
There's an option while in freeplay now that turns off the unlimited boost.
The primary color palette has expanded by about twice what it was for blue and orange teams. (And I love the new purples.)
You can now select different painted variants of a car for blue/orange setups (though not two different car types).
There are options now for allowing the in-game music to play while in training and/or in full games.
Last but not least: There's finally an option for "Team Quick Chat Only".

There's also new filters for items in the customize car section (wheels, toppers, boosts, etc) and you can favorite items making them always show on top of the list.

Prob not within reach at the moment but I'd be game for unranked training
Yeah, I'm in Aus. I don't really fancy doing ranked with 200 ping. But I would have if we were closer.
