I never found Bloom county to be directly anti republican, it made fun of things that deserved to be made fun of, it just occured mostly during republican presidential years, so much of it was pointed that direction.

Bloom County was always fairly anti-authoritarian and anti-conservative in a social context. Its most offensive characters were usually avatars of some facet of right-wing ideology, such as Steve's capitalist misogyny, Grandpa's fears of communists and hippies, and Binkley's dad's constant attempts to make his genteel son more macho.
But yes, it's very reflective of a decade dominated by the Reagan Administration
OPEN LETTER TO FUTURE PRESIDENT TRUMP: We and America call upon you to produce lab evidence proving NO shared DNA between your head fur and your family Lhasa Apso, Goldy Tinkles. If such documentation is thus provided, the Really Loaded Friends of Bloom County will deliver a check for $2 million dollars to your known favorite charity. We wouldn't joke about this.

Which was his biggest gripe in the marginalia to the recent collections about the last couple years of strips. SO glad he can do whatever he wants now.

A more accurate assessment would be that Berk re-worked Doonesbury so that it was actually good.
I mean, there's a reason that Breathed was cribbing from it.

I sympathize with Opus.
in that it was really good and proof that not just C&H is a worthwhile thing he could be publishing if he had the urge
I do wish he had picked someone more talented to collaborate with but that choice itself is interesting, especially given the resulting comics
I love that thing of comics where somebody's hat jumps off their head when they get surprised
Bonus points for having to do with missing deadlines. Breathed was absolutely horrible at that.
In the collections, Breathed told stories about feverishly writing the strips at 5 a.m. and then racing to the airport to put them onto a cargo plane.
It's not the special custom one with mauve armrests though.
Or the really custom one the kids built.
I didn't even notice it was Steve
Though i guess wat can cause a man to change. I took up smoking myself while in the navy.
I should read these on something other than my phone...
I don't think you can embed facebook, it'd have to be screen caps.

I think I must have checked out the Bloom County collections from the local library as a kid dozens of times.
This stuff would never, ever make it past the newspaper syndicates.
