That's the "You can't go in there" guy.
Dartboy was talking about the guy you see when you first come down the stairs into the Bar saying, "I said come in, don't just stand there!"
He died for me too.
I also took the opportunity to check out stuff behind the bar during the blowout.

Just beat it and got the ending. What a great game.
End Spoilers
Pripyat and the CNPP were amazing. The atmosphere and the blowouts were fucking intense. Strelok can finally rest now until The Zone calls again.
I used a blowout as an opportunity to clean out Freedom's armory without joining up. You can technically jump over the guard there, but getting back past him is a bit of a crapshoot.
There's nothing too great back there, but it does hold like 10 of the entire 30 dart rounds in the entire game.
Hanging out with a group of 6 other stalkers in the middle of the night with everyone's flashlights on is so awesome.
I love how lazy the other STALKERs are.
They just wanna hang out and play the guitar. I mean, as soon as you open up a new area for them (like Yantar or the Territories), they run into it, sit around the fire and play guitar.
I think Russians are related to Brazilians, they behave much like us.
So I figured out my problem with the controllers in the army warehouses area. Somehow I didn't have the latest patch of OL. But the saves are still good, but I started a new game anyways just to see the changes. Anyways, a HUGE (I counted over 30) zombie invasion hit the Bar area. There were a lot of deaths but the most troublesome is the arena master Arnie died. I'm bummed he's dead. I hope someone else decides to take over his job.
Oh and then I got in an awesome fight with bandits, the army, and Duty at the same time in the Garbage. This game is so awesome. The mind boggles at how cheaply it can be had these days.
I built my new PC yesterday, based off of a 4870 and 2.66ghz Intel quad core ....
This game doesn't stutter or dip below 60fps EVER, highest everything, at 1920x1200.
Before I was using the DX8 render ...what a difference!
I upgraded my video card to a 4850 on the weekend. I have vsync on so it never goes above 60fps, it never goes below 60fps either though. No more stutters.

My 8800gt stutters sometimes. Mostly it's when I first load the bar zone. You can tell when the game is trying to load all of the npc's. Only does it for a second.

That's most likely the CPU that stutters, while loading the NPC's.

Btw, I just finished Red Forest, and I have yet to encounter one of those "Controllers" you speak of. Were they introduced in Oblivion Lost or are they in the original game? (I only use Stolls' mod pack)

They only show up in a couple locations in vanilla. There's a scripted encounter in the Agroprom tunnels, another in a fixed position in X16, and one occasionally shows up in the village in the Warehouse area.
Man, I wish i didn't have the "game dips down to 1 FPS when look in certain directions" bug. I usually manage to ignore it, but it's happening in Yantar when I look at the big place where the entrance to X16 is.

Hmm, I've been to all those places, but never seen one. Was expecting it at X16, but no show. I probably got out of there before it spawned - I've noticed that happens quite often. I go somewhere, it's all empty, and suddenly the game stutters and a whole bunch of NPC's/dogs/bloodsuckers spawn right on top of me.
Hmm. So for some reason the game's started crashing to desktop after a couple seconds after transitioning to the Bar area form the garbage. It's only happening there, so I can only guess something's being triggered that's causing problems when it was fine before. I guess I'll just try continuing to the Dark Valley like I'm supposed to and see if it'll clear up on it's own.
STALKER will be a cult hit with legs, I think, especially as more overhaul patches and mods finish the job for GSC. Though I remember them saying they might come back to the game and work on it after Clear Sky, didn't they?
Okay, can someone walk me through the process for artifact alchemy in Oblivion Lost? Do I have to stand in the anomaly and drop the artifact or can I throw it?

The free roam patch yes. It would allow you to just live in the zone and let you become the Number 1 Stalker. They were also gonna fix a number of issues and add some other stuff I can't remember.

Pity, I was looking forward to it.
Did you leave X16 the same way you came in? I left through a different way. The controller was guarding it. o_O
It was the only controller I ever saw in the game.

Ah, ok yes I think I did. Hmm, another reason to replay the game then I guess.
Btw, does anyone know where the screenshots (F12) end up? Can't find them in the game folder or in my Documents?
I'm loving this game so far, though it's a bit more linear than I expected. I'm hoping the environments open up more later on.
There is one weird thing I've encountered though. I'm running the game updated to 1.0005 with Stoll's full mod pack, and in townish areas (like the place you start at) occasionally ALL of the people will get up, pull out their weapons and slowly advance towards one corner of the map, and pile up there (usually behind a fence or another object). I figured out that this is because they're aggroing a bandit or a military person or whatever in another direction, but the thing they're aggroing is usually AGES away and isn't even headed towards them. It makes it entirely impossible to interact with folks say, in the garbage, until I clear out every hostile within a ridiculous distance.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Also, in the first town, the military(?) base to the east sent some dudes out right after I got the flash drive back, and they slaughtered the entire town because, well, they were piled up in a corner of the fence. Did I miss out on anything major?
When searching around for stuff, I discovered that Oblivion Lost apparently released a 2.1 version, which I found here. I'm downloading it now, and from the readme it looks like it's got a couple new weapons, some bugfixes, and balance changes. I just hop it'll be compatible with a previous OL save.
Does the Oblivion Lost team have an official website anywhere? Because I've never been able to find anything other than the mod download links on various hosting sites, and it would certainly help in being able to keep up with these things.

The one in the village freaked me the fuck out.
I hadn't played in a few months, and I started getting the psychic damage effects. I started looking around for him, going through the houses, but I couldn't find anything. It went on for minutes- long enough for me to feel physically ill. After searching a house and exploring a collapsed floor, I came out to see him standing right in the middle of the road. I was so messed up in and out of the game, I couldn't kill him. I ran back to the campfire and let the other stalkers take care of him.

Agreed. There's just something about that particular controller, too. I mean, the bloodsuckers are mutated humans, but they're easy to consider beasts. The controller, though? You see him just standing around, maybe walking a bit, and then he looks over at you and fucks your brain. He knows exactly what it is that he's doing.
Okay, can someone walk me through the process for artifact alchemy in Oblivion Lost? Do I have to stand in the anomaly and drop the artifact or can I throw it?
Also I was pleasantly suprised when I went to the Freedom camp to get paid for killing the bloodsuckers, and I found a dead Monolith exosuit soldier just lying there, complete with one of their assault rifles. Shame the durability's at half, and it's super expensive to repair, unless some traders repair cheaper than others. But I have the best pure assault rifle in the vanilla game (not counting the Vintorez, which is a sniper rifle really) and I haven't even been to X18 yet.

And the main quest is fairly linear. You can go anywhere you want to do dinky side quests, and have to back track a bit, but don't expect a free-form game. Maybe in Clear Sky.

Ok thanks, I found it - it was on the C:\Users\Public\Public Documents folder (Vista).
Oh S.T.A.L.K.E.R why must your goodness be denied to me? So, I ended up ordering it from Amazon, but UPS sent to the middle school down a couple blocks from where I live. I don't know they got that mixed up.
Now they have to pick it up and take it back to me. I'm hoping for today or Friday.
2) Is there a rest button, or something? Because I am so screwed right now, with a sliver of health and like, mad baddies on the other end of the hallway.
Vertical Sync. Basically prevents "tearing" of the image when you turn or when there's motion on the screen (tearing being when you see and image slightly "split" because a new image is being written to the screen but the game is doing so part-way through the monitor refresh, so part of the screen has updated but the other part hasn't yet. It's kind of difficult to describe but I hope you understand what I mean).
It stops tearing by syncing your framerate to the refresh rate of the monitor, so that every time the screen only updates when the monitor refreshes.
Problem with this is that unless you've got a mega PC it'll cut down your framerate quite a lot. Realistically it's not worth it in most games since tearing is usually barely noticeable in most games unless you're really looking for it. Just leave it off unless you're noticing screen tearing and it's bugging you quite a bit.

You heal naturally over time. This is slow, and obviously doesn't work if you're bleeding or irradiated.

OL is incompatible with a lot of other mods, however it also includes a lot of the important tweaks with it, so OL by itself is acceptable. Otherwise, everything else in that list is fine if you want to run a modded-up vanilla game.
