One thing I am really liking about The Guest
Is that the two kids are almost immediately suspicious of him

The parents are totally enamored because they're lost and feeling lonely in the wake of the older son's death

But the kids nearly instantly go wait, this guy is kinda completely terrifying

I liked how the brother was basically just like 'yeah you're totally a liar and probably super dangerous, but you beat up those assholes and gave me a knife so like whatever man'. Which is exactly what an angsty teenager would do.

Well Lance Reddick is here now and he's saying a lot of jargon with intensity

This is a direction I did not anticipate

    Dan Stevens is British, right?

His default American voice appears to be Aaron Paul

I think the logic is more like, how can you call me a racist if I punched everyone in the room regardless of skin color

The answer to which is obviously "because racial issues are more complicated than that, asshole" but yeah

but they are punching people explicitly for their skin color, but so long as it is the same amount for each nobody should mind it??

No, it means that, since they're punching every color of face, they are clearly not racist, since racism is discriminating based on the nationality of the face you are punching.

They are punching indiscriminately, which means they are merely an asshole.

What I liked about it was they were basically like 'What if the psychopath from Drive was actually treated like the person he really is, and also we used the same type of music?' and thus we got The Guest

The concept of the "equal opportunity offender" was invented by and for assholes

So... am I an asshole for liking Chris Rock? Not sure where you're going with this.

I don't think there's anything wrong with liking Chris Rock if you understand what his limitations are.

He starts reading out long list which seems like it is going to contain every identifiable ethnic and/or cultural group known to history.

Is that the one where he leaves off white people in order to fuck with them?

CB4 is the best Chris Rock movie. Also I haven't seen it since I was like 14.

Today's film festival movie was Ex Machina, because apparently that's the only fucking way it will get to the theaters here.

It was very good - possibly even very fuckne' good, but it wasn't until after it was all over I could work out why the whole thing seemed really familiar to me. And then I remembered this book, which I reasd a few years back, which basically also features a man and an AI locked in a room and proceeds to set up a constant question of who is testing whom and who has the power. It clearly isn't based on it - I'm sure Alex Garland is more than capable of coming up with his own ideas independantly - but I found the whole theme and plot very resonant with the story presented in the earlier novel (which I'm only familiar with because it was written by the man who taught me Maths when I was 16, and co-incidentally also the best teacher I ever had).

Anyway, Ex Machina: very good; I thought the actors were excellent and the everything from the pacing to the cinematography and effects well conceived to unfold a pretty decent story.

Chris Rock's best role is in Blame Game

He's in the Late Show arc on Louie, which is one of my favorite things ever, but...I can't disagree with you

    I feel it was CB4
Which was making fun of a lot of things then and still applies to making light of them today

I'm not convinced Adam Sandler is actually trying. He just wants to make movies for his kids with his friends whom aren't complaining because everyone still gets paid regardless.

The only thing about Pixels that is upsetting for me (because I'm not remotely surprised that it sucks) is Peter Dinklage getting sullied by it.
    "sullied"

Honestly, the dude probably wanted a break from GoT stuff, and playing a ridiculous caricature of a stuck-in-the-80s gamer was a breath of fresh air.

I know a lot of folks don't like Kevin Smith's movies, but I really liked Chris Rock in Dogma.

And on Grown Ups - I actually didn't mind Grown Ups 1. It has some fun moments of returning to a small home town after being gone awhile and on parenting/aging in general.

Grown Ups 2 was absolutely terrible. From starting with a horrible CG deer peeing on people to ending with a giant neighborhood fist fight with bros led by Shark Boy/Twilight Werewolf, it was a train-wreck of a movie.
