Hoping this morning's truck is an easy one. I'm off tomorrow and would like to get some more matches in with people to help me learn a bit more.
Hit me up on bnet at Avalon#1784. Anyone else feel free to do that as well! I should have a silly amount of time to myself from low hours this week and probably the next.
Yeah, in lower rank hero league she's fine because people don't pick her counters or enough stuns to stop cups. Nor does the weakness of her un-targetted heals really come to light.
Do they test this shit, because a talent that does NOTHING when picked and requires like a ten kill streak to be useful is horrible. It's the BMin'est talent since Possession.
If they were going to nerf it this fucking hard they should've just removed it.
Old version = Starts at 5%, gains 2% per takedown, requires 5 takedowns to hit max of 15%, lose all stacks on death. Alright.
New version = Starts at 0%, gains 1% per takedown, requires 15 takedowns to hit max of 15%, lose half stacks (rounded up) on death.
So let's say by the grace of fucking god you manage to go 15-0 and have max stacks. Well, 1) you're already winning super hard, GP isn't gonna help and 2) it took you ALL fucking game to get there. But let's say you die. Let's say you die and you go down to, what, like 8 stacks? You now need 1) 7 more takedowns to get back to max 2) WITHOUT DYING.
Obviously going 15-0 isn't even realistic. Let's say you get, 5 takedowns and then you die. Down to 3%. But then you get ganked or something trying to catch back up with the team. OOPS 1%.
It's so fucking punishing and terrible and just isn't worth it anymore. Fortunately a good chunk of GP Heroes have/had good alternatives. Kael'thas's Nether Winds is REALLY damn good now. Falstad can just go Charged Up. Nazeebos have already switched over to using Spider Cluster. Zeratul doesn't use GP anymore, opting for the FA/FT build.
Sooooo that leaves Nova. She's pretty much pigeonholed into taking Envenom now and that's kinda icky.
Just fucking remove GP Blizzard.
I think they just see a 15% boost on ability power to be ridiculous, or just hard to get to. Murky's living the dream works well (I think? never stand still enough to do the numbers) but since he's punished for dying now so it kind of goes well with his "trait."
To make GP viable I think maybe they can let minions stack at maybe 1/2 or 1/3rd a stack per minion?
That seems doable.
I don't like Divine Palm very much. The timing is too difficult to get right and it's countered by the enemy being patient and holding off their attack on that hero for a few seconds. Sure, I've made it go off some times but I've also triggered it too early at low health (1 good hit to kill me health) but that hit didn't come until 4 or 5 seconds after I palmed myself. (Ewww)
Both Kharazim and Abathur really come into their power late game. Munkus and I were in a match where we were being beaten pretty soundly until, I dunno, 16 or so? Then suddenly our team started wiping the other team in team fights and we were able to take it home to a win. Sadly one of the 2 of the night, but it felt good when it happened.
I view 7 sided strike as an ice block that does big damage.
I tried Hammer for the second time last night and it was mines, and the enemy had Nazeebo and Nova... I liked her a lot more than I did the first time I played her. I definitely fear and respect Hammer when I'm playing characters like Sylvanas. I've been totally shut out of a lane while Hammer killed our minions and smashed our towers while I sat by helplessly. As Nova, however, I have thoroughly enjoyed hunting her. Will take practice.

KT seems just fine. Played a few games with duo'd with someone rocking him and he still seemed very strong.
Buffed Sonya feels really good right now. Still vulnerable to a good stun and focus. But I feel like her damage is really strong.
I agree but I get yelled at a lot with Learn to play with her

Did 3 of the placement HL games last night. Went 2-1. Thats ok I guess. My first game was lost barely and that was with a first 5 mins DCed aba and a last 10 mins DCed Lili. But I got my second Aba win so now hes 2-0 in HL. It was the only stomp of the night too.
When I was playing Jo though I kept getting blown up in a way I never thought possible as Jo. And I am pretty sure it was Kara doing it. Is that the HP scaling attack thing people are talking about? My health would go down like 75% in a few seconds.
Really curious to see what happens to my rank when I hit 20 placement games. I lost more than I won last night, but a lot of the games were very, very close. And a couple were "why are you playing hero league when you don't even know what the patch changes to your character were?" games. It'll be interesting to see.

One of his Heroics does do 49% or 77% (at level 20) max health damage. Best defense is to just walk out of the area if you can, or bunch up. The damage is distributed among heroes in the area.

Well what the fuck, that is absurd. Yeah I was alone, and it looked like that heroic. I was not aware being one of the beefiest warriors in game was a weakness now.

Giant killer takes awhile and can easilly be stopped with cc. 77% in a single move is not comparable to 1.5% a few times a second.

Hammer is a bit squishy, but Nova doesn't hit as hard any more.
Also, Hammer's W is one of the better de-cloak abilities in the game.
I made a game! Hotline Maui. Requires mouse and keyboard.

If, at level 20, you are caught by the monk solo, and don't have any means of getting outside of the radius of the ability, then to be honest I have no issue with the tank losing 77% of their health in 2 seconds.
Leoric will take 60%+ of a tanks health away at level 20 without using his heroic, in approximately 4 seconds. There's a lot worse out there than the monks ult in terms of tank killing.
Take Valla for example. If you build for AA Valla, and take all her AA talents such as Rancor, Manticore, Searing Shots, and Giant Killer, when you pop Searing Shots, her damage goes through the roof. She can absolutely melt a tank.

As can Tychus and Raynor. And Zag with minimal investment. It's a nasty talent with an AA build.

It actually targets the highest health person in the range afaik. So just remember that and play appropriately.
Actually, I can see a lot of value for Divine Palm in combination with someone like Butcher. Butcher dives, soaks enemy massive damage output abilities, divine palm revives him, and the rest of the team jumps in to assist Butcher now that all of the other team's most powerful abilities are on cooldown.

Honestly the thing about GP is that it's a very binary talent. It's either going to be the best talent on that tier or not worth picking at all, depending on its state of balance.
When it's good, it's good. You will pick it 90% of the time, maybe even 100% depending on the character. When it's bad, it's garbage can tier. You'll never pick it.
When it's good, it's a huge damage boost and it's really good! But it stifles choice. I don't care if it's a good talent (when it's good), it's unexciting and boring.
That's why, at this point in time, I'd rather just see it go. Sure, you could make an argument that they could balance it back out, but I'd make a counterargument that they can't, honestly. It will either be 100% or 0% pickrate. I'm exaggerating a little bit, but it's more or less true.
It was an interesting experiment for ability-based characters, but I'd rather just see it go and see ability scaling tuned up accordingly.
THAT SAID, back on the topic of stifling choices, I also feel like there needs to be more choices at level 4. Most of the GP heroes have some sort of fallback/already were using something else. But at the same time that's also because there is nothing else. Nazeebo ONLY has Spider Cluster. Envenom isn't the same after the nerf, Promote and Merc Lord are kinda okay, but you give up too much damage by picking those. Kael'thas ONLY has Nether Wind. Envenom is lackluster and Mana Tap is hilariously bad design. Falstad... actually has some decent choices? Wow, crazy, I know. Charged Up is your go-to now, but Vampiric Assault is also good, as well as Flow Rider. I would go with Charged Up most of the time but those other two are situationally good.
This all goes back to the responsibility of the devs in creating actual good competing talents, though. This problem isn't new, nor is it going to be solved overnight, but they absolutely need to be doing something about this. Fuck, look at Kael's level 7 talents. Fission Bomb (amazing), Sunfire Enchantment (not great), Tri-Optimal (not worth taking, not worth giving up Fission Bomb for), and Clairvoyance (not worth taking, not worth giving up Fission Bomb for).
There's also just plain badly designed talents. Azmodan got a new talent at 13, called Hedonism. It reduces the mana cost of his Q from 60 to 30. That's it! THAT'S IT. That's all it does, and for a level 13 talent that's disgusting. I don't necessarily have anything against mana-saving/refund talents, especially if they're good, but this is a level 1 talent that they placed at level 13 for some reason. Also because in what world would I take this over March of Sin? Speaking of March of Sin I kinda feel like that should be baseline perhaps with a heavier slow than 75% movespeed (and then have a talent that bumps it back up to 75%, perhaps), but that's another story for another day.
(Ewww)
I've found that, at least from playing with and against a ton of people taking it, that it works WAY better then I thought it would. I've seen that thing go off most times it's been put up because people either don't see it being applied in the middle of the huge melee or they get smacked by incidental damage anyway.
Most players I've seen use it apply it to the assassins or tanks diving deep and then running out and it goes off and saves their asses consistently. I've actually shocked how well it was working yesterday in games.
For level 4 on Nova I will probably pick up Remote Delivery the decoy talent again. It is super useful and I really liked it even when GP was the best choice. The distance you can decoy with it is insane. Great for scouting or with deadly decoys great for catching and finishing runners.
Mana Tap isn't bad on Kael anymore BTW. Sounds silly I know, but after level 7 or so you can gain immense amounts of mana back from creep waves and never have to tap.
Does anyone know if using envenom with Nova breaks stealth? I'd assume it does, but, always worth checking. Given how close you have to be to use it, I'm thinking I might go with something else instead, either perfect shot for mana conservation, or remote delivery for hologram shenanigans.
XBL: Morgan Coke Yes, there is a space, not an underscore. I'm old school like that.

Mana Tap isn't bad on Kael anymore BTW. Sounds silly I know, but after level 7 or so you can gain immense amounts of mana back from creep waves and never have to tap.
So I did some quick math, I guess you're right. At level 10 you have 590 mana, 5% of 590 is 29.5, killing all 7 minions in a wave will return 206.5 mana. At level 16 you have 650 mana, 5% of 650 is 32.5, killing all 7 minions in a wave will return 227.5 mana. That's uh, fairly chunky.
I might have to try it out sometime. I honestly just wrote it off before, but that was also a remnant from when GP wasn't nuked from orbit. Nether Wind is really good but if this mana return is as crazy as it seems it's definitely worth it. Similar to Arcane Intellect for Jaina, I mean.
Cripes though that is a LOT of mana return.
Actually wait holy shit, I just realized. ALL that goes out the window when you factor Mana Addict in, because Mana Tap is based off your MAXIMUM Mana, not your base Mana. Welp!

So basically the question is at what point does empowered flamestrike one-shot minion waves? Because that's precisely the point Mana Tap goes from complete garbo to god-tier
In a related KT theme, do you want Backdraft or Arcane Barrier at 16? And if you take Barrier at 16, do you then want Arcane Power at 20 instead of Bolt of the Storm, given how much bolt got nerfed? Arcane power is a LOT of mana, and a full GP buff on demand, that's pretty dang good, y'know? But is it better than the Pheonix buff or Bolt? Unsure. Opinions?
