So if you stack a bunch of shields and heals on a damage dealer... they'll have a hard time dying AND they'll kill everyone. Who knew?
Of the successful games I've had as Tassadar, I seem to most often have Illidan on my team. Giving him a buffer to eat initial burst damage allows him to stay in and kill stuff very well.
Strangely, shields seem to matter not to Butcher. If he is not stunned, his target will die. If he is stunned, nothing can save him. He really is all or nothing.
You still need CC when playing with Illidan, especially since he can't dodge the enemies' CC anymore.
I rarely play Illidan anymore, he's just not as consistent. Actually surprised a team lost to Illidan tbh
I feel like cog might have lost this one at draft too. I feel like they should've gone raynor or valla over kerrigan. And I have no idea what that tassadar is supposed to do.
Leoric is just amazingly dumb on garden of terror. had over 60 stacks of reanimation by the end of the game, almost died right after i rezzed once in the late game because i rezzed so fast i ended up way too close to the enemy team. 30s rezzes at level 22 is super legit post-nerf right.
With a lot of abby players it ends up being a 4v5.
Just the bad ones. A great Abathur makes it almost feel like you have a fifth player wherever you need him this instant.
Playing Abathur is damn stressful though, between soaking two lanes, hatting whoever benefits the most and providing vision and the occasional snipe kill with mines it feels like you're playing starcraft

I get very, very few good ones. Of course most of my time is spent pubbing.
Except tonight, played some killer games with some fellow PAers. We lost the last two but i think people started messin with other toons by then.
Was amusing, after watching Arthas/Leoric in a bunch of games, my team ended up with Arthas/Leoric/Kael/Jaina/Li Li. We were losing a bit until ~10 mostly because of Zag and Johanna being scary and nova picking off me (jaina), kael and li li a few times. Then we got 10 and won every single fight. Arthas does a fucking shitload of damage now if played right, ours was a monster and sindragosa was just yes please kill 2 of us automatically with Ring of Frost and Phoenix. If he can get in on you, it's a bad time.
Me too. I mostly play healer though, so if he's doing something good I probably won't notice.
This attitude is part of the reason I'm no longer playing this game anymore. Abathur is pretty much my favourite hero, and I've working on getting better as Murky, but whenever you play either of those heroes you are guaranteed to be the first person blamed when a game starts going south. In Abathur's case that is largely because in the early game he is purely a support character without a heal, which means that if his team is doing poorly there is little he can do to carry them through. He gets more options as the game progresses, but by then it's often too late.
It often seems like people who normally wouldn't flame think it's fair game to blame a loss on "playing 4v5", and while I know I could just disable ally chat I still find that unpleasant enough that it affects my enjoyment of the game.
Trying to get better with Nazeebo... Definitely still not there yet. I shouldn't have taken ravenous spirit on a team without a tank. There was nothing to stop the enemy team from advancing on my position and destroying me.

I used to have no issues as Abathur but suddenly people seem to get a 'give up' mentality whenever he is picked now and that is silly.
I still would love to know how you can justify being down 1 man when I can be contributing just as much damage as someone while getting you exp you would have missed.
The way you win as aba is you play passive for like 3 mins while you get a 1-2 level advantage then you can win those engagements suddenly and just separate even further. The way you win with his is get an advantage.
Like people are getting SO hung up on heroes win rates and such without caring about why. I watched some of these pros play. I saw entire teams of "low tier" heroes. Know why? Because their success is completely driven by their teams comp and strat. When you are queueing for QM without a full 5 this doesn't exist, and thus neither does the tiers.
Like man, just play the game. Please. People are gonna start leaving if even the most casual DOTA gets so serious no one can have fun.
I'm generally not a fan of rando abathurs because they're universally awful and abathurs absolutely requires good communication to leverage his strengths. If I'm on voice with someone and they're playing him and I know ahead of time and can pick someone that benefits from the hat? Totally different story. Plus, as you said, abathur requires a certain play style early in the match that most people aren't really aware of and don't care about because #yoloqueue.
Basically what I'm saying is if you insist on playing Abby in solo queue you're going to have a bad time.

When I first bought him, I played like 30 or 40 matches in a row. The majority of those my team either played flawlessly to his strengths or I was ridiculously good because I was winning a lot and even the worst games were nailbiters. It never seemed like there was a wrong way my team could play.
Now when I do it this never happens. It just seems like there was an attitude change about aba. It's almost like he became a joke character somehow. Even murky gets more respect in games.
I think my issue with Abathur is the lack of a body/target during team fights pre-10. When people are roaming around the body advantage in public games just seems like it's more than most Abathur's can make up for.
In a premade it's different because people play more cautiously knowing that Abathur is there to support/deal damage, but there's no 5th body there to be targeted or body block. His hat adds a decent shield to someone but it's nowhere near the HP of someone like Uther(or another support) or Zagara(or another specialist) standing there doing the same amount of damage/healing to the other team with interrupts.
Abathur is perfectly fine IF the team can play to his strengths (letting him get exp at all times and not going all in for team fights prior to 10). These things just don't happen in most pub games so I think Abathur gets blamed as a result.
Murky and the Vikings(two other specialists I see get blamed for losses a lot) at least contribute bodies to a team fight that have to be accounted for. Yeah they're squishy but they're still there and potentially absorb some damage or distract people as something extra to hit.
I only get silence or compliments when posting as Aba. Usually compliments when we win cause I helped out team stall objectives or something while I pushed a lane with locusts.
I've seen hate on Murky and Aba, but much more frequently on Aba. I agree with the sentiments that he's great for a premade on voice chat.... I also still don't really understand how he works. I should have played him during free week. I expect most other people don't understand him either, so they look at the unknown and get insecure and say he sucks.
And of course, yeah, I'm sure lots of pubby Abas suck.
In today's games with PA folk I think we had an overall 80% victory rate. Even when @pantsB takes nydus on dragon shire.
but ya, all in all good stuff.
Agreed. Appreciate the games, had a really good run.
Yeah, we had a few two tank comps going and were wrecking team fights. Even Chen was involved! All the cooldowns would pop at the start of the fight, the smoke would clear, and .. everyone would still be alive. Uh oh for the other team.
One game on mines we basically ate them for lunch all game metaphorically, and then late game a maw literally ate them before vomiting them up into a Hyperion + Johanna wombo combo. 5-0 wipe, GG.

Ya I gotta admit your Chen was impressive. I wasn't expecting much because, you know, Chen, but damn did that Kaelthas rue the day he thought he could contribute to team fights.
The "Five Minutes-In Doomsday Prophet" is my favorite type of player... for me to poop on mute. IT'S OVER, WE ALREADY LOST. Oh look, we won in the end. Never mind.

So apparently Azmodan counters Illidan + Abathur combo.

I said it.
Thats right. Stupid Abathur, always afk in base.

Complexity was ready for Illidan it seems
cattlepillar: We have seen the tankless Illidan composition tons of times in the past, and we have strategies against all of that.
Blinks: We know what they are going to do and we are ready for it.
Trummel: They only have like three comps.
Blinks: It’s very predictable.

Depends on what I play. With Kerrigan, when you get Abathur and Uther..... Mmmmmmh

Insulted the Abathur player almost constantly. Fed, avoided team fights, and deliberately wasted our terror.
Look if I don't throw the game when an aba gets picked then all that complaining I do about him is going to look silly if we win.

Complexity beat up Relic once already.
This game has a fun draft. One side is running Rexxar and the other has Sonya.
I'd love to see a broadcaster inset so I can figure out which one of them is going full cookie monster every time there's a big play or a core push.

edit: also i still think taste for blood is a terrible, degenerative talent for level 1. it's far too powerful.
Okay, I like her quite a bit more now. I think I'd still rather play Uther but if I have to I think I could deal with playing her.
