The "face time" segments definitely looked a little janky compared to other contemporary games, seemed like they were trying to shoot around it without being too obvious.
They still looked leaps and bounds better than what we got in FO3 (that weird freeze-frame thing where you'd zoom in on someone's face straight onward, like an interrogator, while the rest of the world came to a halt around you) and even Skyrim (where only you and the person you were talking to stopped, and everyone else kept going about their business).
It also seems like there's more choice involved here in the plot than in Skyrim and FO3. Can't wait to get my hands on this.
I wonder if the prologue will be as annoying as the Skyrim dragon attack was for making new characters.
Don't worry. In time, someone will mod the Vault Tec Rep who comes to your door into either Macho Man Randy Savage or Thomas the Tank Engine.
When I saw that a silhouette-face had agreed with this post, I just felt that it was DiannaoChong.
The legend lives on.
I took Wednesday off from work. I am starting to get a case of the hype.
If we could get extra meta: I wonder if we could mod the dragon from skyrim to be the VaultTec salesman. Similar engine, might just be a model replacement? No way is the skeleton similar for the models I guess.
They've already said that, much like Skyrim, there's a max effective level that enemies can be per area.
I'm assuming it's the leveling system they've had since NV. An area has a level span, say 5-8. Enemies match your level, but not lower/higher than the level span.

So hyped for this. I have quite a few vacation days which don't roll over at the end of this year, so I figured I'd let it load Tuesday while I'm at work and take Wednesday through Friday off to really dig in. Completely forgot that pre-loading was a thing for digital, though, so it looks like I'll probably be a little groggy coming into work Tuesday morning
Launch trailer here! Get your launch trailer. Fresh off the presses. edit- fair warning, there's actually a decent bit of story hinting here, if you want to go in blind. They talk about some shit, certain factions mostly.
I think fo3 had a stronger narrative, even if the ending was dumb
It had a stronger premise, but I don't think it went anywhere interesting with it. Whereas New Vegas had a weaksauce character hook at the start but did interesting world building and character tourism with it.
Eh for me NV got dumb as soon as I met the Legion
The Legion was so over the top evil that the game went from interesting/exciting to face-palm in an instant
And then right after that I started to exit a ravine and the game threw a squad of Legion at me that outclassed me by a mile and I stopped playing because fuck this.
Of course once I found out there was a .50 sniper rifle somewhere out there waiting for me I was right back to playing but I wasn't even a little interested in the factions or the plot.
I take it you didn't play it right at release?
One of the patches that was there to 'help' the console versions (by actually *removing* npcs because oh noes console memory) somehow bugged the first squad that was supposed to track you down, and they got scaled up to max level. They *never* fixed this. I just disarm and loot everything in the powder ganger area and throw a billion explosives at them.
Obsidian and Bethesda really go hand in hand with bugs. I still love them both.
Is that what happened. Been running a NV hard-hardcore and got jumped going to nipton:
7 mines, 10 dynamite, 38 incinerator, 10 40mm, ~20 MFC, ~60 EC later the assassination squad was dead. Just about every round of ammo was dumped into them.
Walked into nipton with under a dozen rounds for my laser & plasma pistols. Freed up a LOT of carry weight though

I love how this protagonist is practically begging for a Captain America mod.
Alternate mod where you break out of ice (freezer?) and the costume and he's good to go.
I hope there is an option for silenced energy weapons. If not, dakka dakka in lieu of pew pew.
Black lives matter.

Well, sniper-style energy weapons are in, so I imagine you'll be able to somehow suppress your energy weapons. I imagine stealth will be a much more viable option this time around.
The Railroad, Brotherhood of Steel and The Minutemen. It would seem like not a leap that The Institute is an option. We might be wrong about how The Minutemen work though as they don't really fit into the triad: The Railroad as the neutral option, let robots live they have souls too. Brotherhood of Steel, kill all robots, but not before giving the tech to us. The Institute, school motto: "We are The Institute. Lower your weapons and surrender your caps. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.” The Minutemen would seem to be a faction for the entire benefit of The Wasteland? I dunno.
I probably expect the Institute to be more of an "I, robot" kind of situation where they just want a place in a world that doesn't understand and fears them, etc. etc. insert emotional robots-with-feelings narrative here.
Probably more likely the case if it's the Brotherhood of Steel doing the bitching - anything they don't like I more than likely like.
The Institute is not robot-friendly. That's the Railroad. The Institute is the enemy of robuttkind.
The Railroad is roberts-have-feelings-too.

It's been so long since I've played FO3 I've forgotten the specifics of the Institute/Android plot arc from that game. Any quick refreshers anyone can give?

That's what the Railroad is there for, though. There's already a happybots-faction.
In Fallout 3 & NV, 5 was the base level value for S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats. I considered 5 as being normal/average. We got some extra points to decide for some stats to be above norm. We could decide to be less than average in some facet, in order to be more extraordinary overall.
In Fallout 4, if we distribute all our initial S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points evenly, that would bring each attribute up to 4, leaving us without any additional points to distribute. Because of this circumstance, and the fact that the most basic perks (like *increase health*) of each attribute are unlocked at attribute level 3, I conclude that the new normal isn't attribute level 5, but attribute level 3, and anything beneath 3 is below average, and everything above 3 is above average, in terms of attribute allocation at the start of the game.
In conclusion, I think of attribute level 3 as the new average/normal. Anything beneath 3 is below average. I think I like it better this way, because I guess it better reflects what normal is in real life. An average person isn't half as strong as a strong man, for example. Truely extraordinary people are usually incomparably more awesome at whatever they're great at in comparison to the average joe. Or is being in average shape the same as being halfway to being as strong as Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime? I think not.
Much like real life, this should also allow for more upwards mobility in terms of training. Prior Fallout games were super restrictive in that regard.
That doesn't really work if you consider the perks. I mean, a 1 in luck is still a guy who's lucky enough to find $20 bills on the ground rather than pennies and nickels. Someone with 1 in perception is so good at picking pockets, he'll literally steal the shirt off your back without you noticing. Even a 1 is above average, is what I'm saying.
Depends on how much attributes scale those things really. Isn't it like, a guy with 1 luck finds 1 dollar, a guy with 10 luck finds 10 dollars. With the perk the guy with 1 luck finds 1 dollar 20 cents, the guy with 10 luck finds 12 dollars instead?
The attributes don't scale things like that. That Perk does the same thing at 1 Luck as it does at 10 Luck.
I imagine the armour is a totally separate body, like werewolves and vampire-lords. It's big and bulky enough to handwave any bodysize. So it's quite likely to be heavily modded.
I assume we find the AI robots running around and think they are evil but it turns out it's like an AI trying to preserve the human race or something, and so the tables get flipped and humans bad and robots good.
Unless I've missed something, we have little to no info on how The Institute actually operates or if there are actually:
any humans left. My guess is no, or the roles have been reversed. Still wouldn't stop androids from wanting to escape and live "free"./spoiler]
According to Zimmerman, they are human scientists that live in a sealed environment (which seems to be implied to be underground?) away from the rest of the commonwealth.
Learning the androids have taken control of it would be an interesting twist but all the android imagery could just their slave army. I'd rather not see that twist though since I already got my fill of the "killer synths trying to take control" in Wasteland 2 a short while ago.
Hmm. This excitement is a bit infectious. Gonna be hard to resist buying this one day one.
This was impossible for me to resist day -60. At least it was with a GMG coupon.
Also.... ....must resist checking out the launch trailer and clicking on the spoilers in the thread. If this was a few weeks ago I know I would fail the willpower check sometime before release. With less than five days to go, I have a (small) chance to resist.

Really grown to love it on my last playthrough. Especially that sweet reload animation.

Yeah, but the guy with 10 luck will find more money than the guy with 1 luck, and the perk increases the amount of money found by 20%.
