So hyped for this. I have quite a few vacation days which don't roll over at the end of this year, so I figured I'd let it load Tuesday while I'm at work and take Wednesday through Friday off to really dig in. Completely forgot that pre-loading was a thing for digital, though, so it looks like I'll probably be a little groggy coming into work Tuesday morning
Yeah, I found out this week that I have a lot of PTO left to use before the end of the year. So I'm off all next week: do my best to sleep most of Monday, get it up and running Monday night, play a good bit through the night, and just wallow in Bostonian post-nuclear hellscape (indistinguishible from Bostonian pre-nuclear hellscape) for the week.
I imagine I will burn out and need a break by Wednesday.

I'm still waiting to burn out on Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
I imagine it'll happen eventually but it'll probably take another decade or so.
Two non-spoilery things I've picked up recently and don't recall seeing posted in here:
Save games are organized by character, finally.
In your pip boy, if you go to a perk you can view what ALL of the ranks do, even if you only have the first one. I'm hoping that applies to perks you don't have yet, but not sure.

for the perks it does, you can view every perk and all the ranks right away, even for ones you don't have.
That's how people were able to leak the full perk charts already.
Unless I've missed something, we have little to no info on how The Institute actually operates or if there are actually:
any humans left. My guess is no, or the roles have been reversed. Still wouldn't stop androids from wanting to escape and live "free"./spoiler]
According to Zimmerman, they are human scientists that live in a sealed environment (which seems to be implied to be underground?) away from the rest of the commonwealth.
Learning the androids have taken control of it would be an interesting twist but all the android imagery could just their slave army. I'd rather not see that twist though since I already got my fill of the "killer synths trying to take control" in Wasteland 2 a short while ago.
I'd guess we
Get a choice of factions as usual, in this case probably Institute/Commonwealth/You/Not revealed option
I really hope they unfuck their relationship with Obsidian and give Obsidian F4 to make a new west coast game.
Obsidian don't seem hurt by it but it's hard to imagine them not being frustrated by stuff like the whole metacritic thing which just sounds hilariously insulting if it's true.
They still all seemed to have still loved being back on Fallout though so heres hoping.

It is their baby, afterall.
Even if its their miserable asshole of an ex that brings it by.
Something I just noticed from that trailer. It's just speculation, but I'll put it in a spoiler anyway.
The PC says "This time I'm ready...because I know war." Maybe it implies you used to be a soldier? A story reason to explain why you're so awesome.
*Actual spoiler but only concerning the very start of the game*
It's confirmed your character has a military background.
Back when Kotaku first leaked info on Fallout 4, they posted abit of a script of the protagonist doing the opening speech and s/he talked about it. The Vault-Tec salesman also mentions it.
Best part of all that is she/he'll already have power armor training.
Something else occurred to me. Journalist lady (I forget her name) has a hat with long hair. I wonder if that's unique to her or if that'll work for the PC, as well. Hopefully, no more suddenly having short hair when you put on a hat.

Husband and wife were both soldiers.
So basically whichever sex you choose the NPC is the other one?
In the E3 trailer, is says you make both characters when looking in the bathroom mirror. When you leave the room, you control one, and the other, presumably, you go looking for after you wake up.

Nice.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
I wonder if I could make the child look like me by modelling the husband and wife on my parents
I'm not sure if I could deal with whatever issues might arise from watching my mum get killed hundreds of times in slow motion, though - not to mention having to decide which NPCs to have sex with
I really hope there's more raidery haircuts available later in the game, tho it seems like maybe they're keeping more normal hair cuts so you can wear hats and such with hair?
Cos normally my main guy looks like a Viking, and my main chick will look like MaMa from Dredd. I suppose I could be versions of those characters going under cover in suburbia

I'm going to spend a stupid amount of time making both characters faces I already know...
I really wish more games had adopted Mass Effect's system with the Face Codes or some other way to easily copy face settings from other people. I SUCK at making faces. Best I can do is tweak the presets a little, and the new system for FO4 looks dangerous as hell for someone like me.
Has anyone else been binge-playing 3 or New Vegas in the meantime?
I tried. Fallout 3 doesn't run on my computer without crashing every 5 minutes (yes, I tried all the fixes for Windows 7. No dice)
Fallout: New Vegas gave me an infinite loading screen after 25 hours and I gave up.
I know you said you tried everything, but have you tried the multicore fix for Fallout 3? Stopped me crashing every 10 seconds, and I've only had 1 crash in about 8 hours of play.

The former makes me think of oldschool science fiction more whenever I hear it.

I'd much rather Obsidian start working on a successor to Vampire the Masquerade now that Paradox owns White Wolf.
Vampire: The Fallout: Glow in the Dark Fangs
They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.
Vampirism never changes.
Night Person + Cannibal + Lady Killer/Man Hunter
I'm doing it.

Character two will be flicking through some presets before deciding, "Eh, good enough"
Character two will be her early seasons love interest - so short black spikey hair and a giant forehead.
