Crap, I need to log back into Steamgifts to see if anyone entered that interceptor drawing.
I also woke up with the most spectacular idea for a game. I was thinking about dungeon crawlers and fighting a squid girl and taking her severed head/limbs back as trophies and being hailed as a hero. Then I though about the hero being some other kind of monster girl, then everything snowballed and now I'm relearning all this stuff I forgot about Game Maker and I promise to send CD keys to pixie and Drake.
First DLC, little sombreros, poncho's and mustaches.
Went on a mini shopping spree on the last day of the humble store sale. Picked up Dungeon of the endless, the swapper, the fall, grow home, ittle dew, oceanhorn and half minute hero all for under 20 quid. Bargain!!
@RoyceSraphim I'm falling down the Game Dev rabbit hole too. Working through some Unity tutorials at the moment. Trying to prototype an idea for a puzzle/SRPG hybrid I've had.
I'm hearing this Dropsy game about the creepy looking but kind hearted hugging clown is supposed to be great. And then the publisher tweeted a photo of Dropsy the Clown hanging out with Sam and Max (they have a similar art style) and I'm even more intrigued
I installed X-Com interceptor on a whim, turns out there a massive bug that makes probes and certain bases (1/ 0) km away.
There's a substitute.exe in the steam forums, but I'm going to verify this with gog.com as well.
Surprisingly fun game.
Indeed. The whole system of Outposts and OPPs is the sort of logistics I'd like to see in another space game (or put in my own).
Also, the alien probe bug apparently shows up on any OS past... I want to say Win 2000? 98, even? Good luck with trying the fix. I've got a persistent crash on the base screen that made me give up on the game.

Pardon my Sony/Playstation ignorance, but what's special about that controller? Besides that it's not a Steam controller?
It appears to have the visual aesthetics of the original PS1 era controller.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

John Wick seemed pretty video game inspired in general if you ask me.
I'd argue Hotline Miami, it has that sort of quick efficient brutality, and obviously the club scene is the closest parallel. First game is even about mostly killing cheesy Russian mafia for revenge.
Even some of the subtitle font choices felt inspired by Hotline Miami.
@jclast come on down, and prepare for some android shootin
Yay! I'm not great at twin stick shooters, but I do love them, and I've heard that this one is fantastic. Installing (and hopefully trying out) tonight! Thank you so much @Maguano!
Pardon my Sony/Playstation ignorance, but what's special about that controller? Besides that it's not a Steam controller?
Yeah as has been mentioned, it's aesthetically different to the standard ones; a Limited Edition version marking the 20th Anniversary of the Playstation brand. I only bought it cause it was cheaper than the regular version at the time (a pre-order a couple months ago). Had the pricing for the Steam Controller been made available I might've opted for that instead. Thoug hsaying that, I was in need of a Ps4 controller anyway.
Edit: Trying it out right now and the buttons prompt change automatically for when using the DS4 in Mad Max! This makes me so giddy. I can basically drive with the 360 controller and have the Xbox prompts, jump out of the car and start using the DS4 and have the Playstation prompts and then start fine aiming with keyboard and mouse. AI won't, obviously, cause I'm not that silly but it's nice to have the features available now, FUTURE!
Oh and keeping on Mad Max, my first fight using this new controller netted me 3 combat challenge completions! See! I don't suck, it was the controller all along!

Are you using something like DS4Win? Or does Mad Max just pick up on a DS4? Because I like the DS4 better than the XB1 controller but DS4Win has been especially dodgy for me.

I'm very reluctant when it comes to using DS4Win or DS4tools, I've heard they can break the 360 controller drivers too if you're not careful when installing them. I simply plugged in the controller and it worked like a charm, straight off. Much like Dying Light did. Trackpad brings up the map and everything else is same as on the X360 controller. No vibration but I can live without that.
Sadly, Metal Gear Solid fails to acknowledge the controller entirely, completely disabling it when trying to use it. I'll try unplugging the 360 controller to see if that was messing with it but highly doubtful.
....Rand Paul's campaign is giving away gifts on Steamgifts and asking for donations.
That's really weird.
Some good gifts, though. There's a level 5+ Fallout 4 giveaway, for example.
EDIT: I agree it's a little weird, but I thought it was kind of clever. I'd be fascinated to know how effective a strategy it is (not that they will ever release that data...)
EDIT: OK, now you've got me thinking about it. Why gate that Fallout 4 giveaway behind level 5+? Other, lvl 0 giveaways of Fallout 4 get up to 10k entrants. A level 5+ is going to get, what, maybe 500-1000? People only see the political messaging if they click into the giveaway. So either they are on the hunt for 'whales' who give away games and might have disposable income and/or reckless financial tendencies, or they want to be seen as 'with it' on SG (where giveaways for higher level contributors seems to be in vogue right now), or they made a mistake. Fascinating. I mean it's probably just a campaign volunteer doing it as a frolic of his own without being tied to a specific strategy. Still...
Caught up on the thread, read the bit about 2d indie platformers needing something unique to stand out in the market, and can't help but share some of my favorites (Imma also gonna include 3D in 2D platformers, because those count). While some of these may be "hard" I've left out ones that are just hard for the sake of being hard. Furthermore, all of these games are very different from one another.
Pardon my Sony/Playstation ignorance, but what's special about that controller? Besides that it's not a Steam controller?

I uninstalled it after being super frustrated with it not working on Saints Row IV, Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell, or Ori and The Bling Forest. The XB1 controller works fine now, but playing with the DS4 and charging it at the same time is going to be awesome. Thanks!
So it turns out Metal Gear Solid V does recognise the Dualshock 4 controller provided it's the only one connected to the PC. Taking out the Xbox 360 controller allowed the ds4 to be recognised and although the prompts remained the Xbox ones, the functionality was the same. Sans the vibration stuff.
I'm still getting A steam Controller when I can eventually muster it but this'll make for a great stopgap and I can finally retire the X360 controller and it's shitty analog stick drift.
You can get a free Steam key for a game called Skyborn via PC Gamer and Bundlestars. I have no idea of the quality of the game, but free is free.
Skyborn is freaking great. It's my favorite RPGMaker game to date. The characters are quirky and fun, the story is engaging, the art is appealing, and the mechanics... well, they're standard fare and serviceable.
edit: also, the main character... she is a socially awkward mechanic who would rather spend time elbow-deep in engine oil than deal with people. I might be able to relate to that far too well...
