Today's the day. The goodbye emails have been sent, all the work is checked in, and my final time sheet is filed. At the end of the day I'm turning in my ID card, and closing the book on fourteen years of working in Washington state.
Next week I head out on a three day road trip to start a new job and career path in South Dakota, home of Mount Rushmore, and, um, hang on, come on Bing, don't fail me now... home of Mount Rushmore.
So, to commemorate the occasion of switching job tracks, locations, and taking long road trips, here's a giveaway that's all about job choices.
In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have scheduled this giveaway to end on the day I was frantically throwing stuff into boxes to be ready to leave...
And then the next two days I didn't want to even turn my computer on once I got to the hotel, and once I finally got to Sioux Falls, my sister-in-law decided to test if my alcohol tolerance was any match for that of a soul eating ginger.
It is, although my head did not thank me this morning. This girl could drink most of the Mad PAX Blurry Road pub crawlers under the table.
So now temporarily ensconced in my brother's downtown loft, hangover cured by water and Vitamin I, it's time to (three days late) announce the winner. @BigDes, come on down!

All this XCOM talk and news lately makes me feel like I REALLY should get back to it. I was super pumped for it when it came out and sort of got sidetracked from it, as I often tend to do with games. I quickly got frustrated with missing 95% chance shots at what was clearly more than 5% of the time. Also I was turned off by how people would shoot around cover and shots would go through cars and other objects which is only a mild issue and sort of ridiculous reason to not keep playing a game.
If I manage to put Banner Saga to bed soon, I think I'll give ole XCOM another try.
You can get a free Steam key for a game called Skyborn via PC Gamer and Bundlestars. I have no idea of the quality of the game, but free is free.
Skyborn is freaking great. It's my favorite RPGMaker game to date. The characters are quirky and fun, the story is engaging, the art is appealing, and the mechanics... well, they're standard fare and serviceable.
edit: also, the main character... she is a socially awkward mechanic who would rather spend time elbow-deep in engine oil than deal with people. I might be able to relate to that far too well...
I will second this. Skyborn is really good. It's made by the same dude that did the Deadly Sin games if you're familiar with those (the first one is mediocre to average, the second is really good).

Third! It took me by surprise how well constructed it was. That's one I need to get back to and finish at some point.

EDGE - Quite fun, maybe just a few too many levels. Roll cube around levels to get to the end-point, with some small puzzle solving along the way.
RUSH - Super worth 24 cents. 3 dimensional puzzle ame
Toki Tori - fun 2D puzzler, but the later levels get a little harder than it feels like they should be (note: this is currently in a bundle with some other games, so you may want to get it that way)
The above three games are all in a single bundle for 80 cents. Absolutely worth that.
Dead Pixels - pass. it's super repetitive and not terribly fun to start.
Super Trench Attack - twin stick shooter, faux-WW1 aesthetic. Surprisingly fun, for the price. Rather short. Some bosses are shooting galleries, and those are eh. Art style is.....interesting. Worth the price easily.
Faerie Solitaire - Quite fun, absolutely worth 50 cents.
Point Perfect - found it to be too tough at the outset for my tastes. Eh.
Kairo - first person puzzler, worth the price. A bit easy to get lost.

I picked up Witcher 2 today, as I've always heard great things about it in the thread here, and it's super cheap right now. I booted it up just to play around for a few minutes, see how it looks and tweak graphical settings, the usual deal. Unfortunately the controls seem to be a little weird and slow to respond, both using a controller and KBAM. There's a quarter-second delay on every action, and even something as simple as rotating the camera is inconsistent and jerky. I figured I'd ask here in the thread if there's any easy fix, or even just a way to make it more bearable. I'm open to playing using either control scheme if necessary.

So it's Monday night. Which for the majority of my life, has been pro-wrestling night (even during NFL season).
I used to love the old Nintendo 64 wrestling games. I even played the import Virtual Pro Wrestling games that used the same engine as WCW Revenge, WWF No Mercy, etc. That old AKI/THQ engine that I enjoyed a lot.
Tonight was the first time that I've ever really searched the Steam store for wrestling games. Let it be known, the pickings are slim. Dire, even. I saw a game that was unfinished & being worked on, called Pro Wrestling X or something. It was $10 and looked like it wasn't even Alpha stage yet (and I think the video was from last October). I don't like the WWE2k games, nor the old Smackdown style gameplay.
It's kind of frustrating that in the end of the year 2015 I can't find a new decent wrestling game to play. The best looking game I found wasn't even a wrestling game, it was a Metroid/Castlevania style 2D side-scroller with Samurai Jack style animation/art where you played a lucha mask wearing character. It was called Guacamelee or something like that.
I guess this is the reality when wrestling isn't mainstream popular like it was during 1996-2000.
It looks good, like Mark of the Ninja, but I was specifically looking for like a simulation wrestling game where you have matches.
No matches, but aside from being stylish and 2D it's not like Mark of the Ninja. You're a badass luchador and use your bitchin' luchador moves to beat up skeletons and navigate the Metroidvania environment.
Pre-ordering brings the price down to 648yen for me, don't know what that makes it in your particular monies, but...really, if Rebirth is anything to judge by, it would be worth it at twice the price. So, run, don't walk.
Re: Rand Paul, unless I'm looking at the wrong giveaways, the guy offering Fallout 4 (req. level 5) and Witcher 3 (no lock) is just some supporter, not part of the campaign.

W2 blew W1 out of the water, and starting there serves as a good introduction to most of the characters (save two of the most important who don't show until W3). Plus you'll be ready for W3, which in turn blows W2 out of the water!

I meant looks good like Mark of the Ninja looks good. I've not played either. It just reminded me of another side-scrolling 2D game with good word of mouth was all.
There was another one on X-Box Live a few years back I remember hearing good things about too. Shadow Complex, I think? Oh and the new Uri or Ari game.
Started playing The Swapper today. God this game has a shit-ton of atmosphere. Something about the lighting and sound just feels incredible. And the puzzlin' isn't half bad either.
Not so such about the talking rocks though, the messages seem a bit too cryptic, I'm not sure I fully get whats going on. Hoping it gets clearer as I continue.
"What?" is exactly right. This looks weird. And twisted. And cool.
PSA: @akajaybay appears to be on a rampage! Seek shelter immediately!
Thanks!
I admit, I'm still trying to figure out what "amniotic lens" means in the context of this game and after looking at the store page I still have no idea.

It's a great game. It will make a little more sense a you go along. Great music, great style, great puzzle. Wonderful gem.
Only problem is it's pretty poorly optimized. It was taxing my system more than Borderlands 2.

Awesome, thank you very much.
Sorry I didn't reply earlier but had to spend all day in a queue at the Chinese embassy as I'm emigrating there on Thursday.

Yeah. I made it to Skyhold 25 hours in and my gaming friends were like, "Congratulations! You finished the prologue!"
As great as the big story missions are, the game seems to have a lot of forgettable filler in between.
Sooo...onboard graphics?
Inquisition is a pretty great eight hour game hidden inside a mostly unremarkable eighty hour game.
The lack of any RAM or power supply seem like bigger problems.
