Started playing The Swapper today. God this game has a shit-ton of atmosphere. Something about the lighting and sound just feels incredible. And the puzzlin' isn't half bad either.
Not so such about the talking rocks though, the messages seem a bit too cryptic, I'm not sure I fully get whats going on. Hoping it gets clearer as I continue.
Its rather sad for all parties.
The Watchers:
The Watchers are the sweetest, friendliest aliens in the wole-wide-wurld. They unknowingly killed the crew of the ship by simply communicating in the proximity of humans. Furthermore, their existence is so different from biological life that they don't know what death is. They call their hive mind The Great Chain, and by some of them being moved to the ship, they were put in a terrifying isolation they never experienced before.
It gets much, much worse for the remaining human characters.
"What?" is exactly right. This looks weird. And twisted. And cool.
PSA: @akajaybay appears to be on a rampage! Seek shelter immediately!
Thanks!
I've watched the trailer, read everything on the page, and several of the reviews there, and I am no closer to figuring out what the hell that even is. But some of the '80s-style visuals look great.
Now I'm not saying you all should pile onto RC right now just because he can't fight back, but I mean... there's no good reason to let an opportunity like this pass right on by, amirite?
You can get a free Steam key for a game called Skyborn via PC Gamer and Bundlestars. I have no idea of the quality of the game, but free is free.
Skyborn is freaking great. It's my favorite RPGMaker game to date. The characters are quirky and fun, the story is engaging, the art is appealing, and the mechanics... well, they're standard fare and serviceable.
edit: also, the main character... she is a socially awkward mechanic who would rather spend time elbow-deep in engine oil than deal with people. I might be able to relate to that far too well...
Another freebie game denied due to my refusal to use facebook--deleted my account back when you actually could. Not sure if it is the continued price of my refusal or a sign I should give in once more.
This looks really great, a nice grim noir game, and made by Wadjet Eye. I can't wait to dive into this.
Well, shit.
So, just first hour impressions. It's very much a Wadjet Eye Game. Great pixel graphics, iffy voice acting.
The puzzles haven't been terribly difficult, but I can see future difficulties. If you pick up the game, as you play take written, properly spelled notes. You'll thank me later.

I admit, I'm still trying to figure out what "amniotic lens" means in the context of this game and after looking at the store page I still have no idea.
Looking at that blurb, I'm guessing that it was the band the protagonist and their mates were in, back in the 60s, named by plucking words out of the hat/ether/zeitgeist in an attempt to sound cool and profound, man. Drugs may have been were probably involved.
"A Moe-as-fuck Streets of Rage" is not a descriptor i thought i'd ever need to use, but there you go. i'd forgotten how hard side-scrolling brawlers can be on your joints, a half-hour or so of button mashing seems to have really done a number on my thumb. i'm going to hazard a guess and say there will be moves to upgrade to that will make it a bit quicker, and easier on the fingers to clear out scads of enemies, but i havenae seen any yet. Still, for what it is (purely as mechanics), i still had fun with it. They do a very good job with the retro-pallet for character and stage design, and the story as yet is goofy but not off-puttingly so. If you like brawlers, and have a taste for the odd, i'd say it's worth it on a sale. If the Humble Deal is still up, go ahead and snag it, and you won't be disappointed. If, on the other hand, you have arthritis, or despise the Moe-aesthetic, a pass would, likely be in order.
Secondary aside.
So, looking for something to pass the time whilst i wait for Afterbirth to be downloadable on Oct30, i've kinda edged back into Nuclear Throne. It seems to have gotten slightly easier since the last time i gave it a go. i think some of the enemies have had their shots slowed and shrunk (most notably with the three-headed scorpion things). i'm still pretty damned bad at it, though (i've only managed to beat Big Dog once, and that was with Crystal and a glitch that let me stack Rhino Skin).
What i'm wondering, though, is it's still listed as Early Access, yeah? i think that puts it at...well...at least over a year now. Is that normal for Early Access? Vlambeer is clearly putting a lot of time and effort into it, there are weekly (and well-documented) updates, and all that. But, i guess, how long does it take a game to go from EA to final, sale-able state, anymore?

I have finished 62 games this year. SIXTY-TWO. And THIS sort of thing is exactly why my backlog keeps getting worse instead of better.
@HyphyKezzy got me with a copy of Armikrog.
Thanks a bunch. This looks pretty cool. I have a horrible backlog of games I really want to play (such a problem), but I have been keeping an eye on this one for a long while now.
Hopefully I'll get to it real soon.
Thanks again.

Also, not sure if someone else has announced it but you can grab Planetary Annihilation for $1 on Bundle Stars for the next 3 days. Tempted myself but not sure if it is my kind of game.
From the little bit I know of the game $1 sounds overpriced.
After finishing my first day of the new job (downsides - no wifi, can't install Steam, pretty sure forums are blocked, upsides - job stability, predictable schedule, better commute) and lining up a new rental house for when my family joins me out here in middle America next month, I checked my email to find this:
@akajaybay feeling "Gifty." I know that feel, bro, and may be feeling it myself soon. Thanks!

@EvmaAlsar told me a little bit about it and it sounds fucking epic. Something about attaching rockets to a planet to shoot it into another planet or something on that scale. I think the biggest complaints I've heard were that it was glitchy for some but it might be worth the risk at $1. Plus, if you own it, I think it gives you a 66% discount on the titans version which sounds like it add a lot
I'm going to need to find the dad thread and also the holy shit I only have 6 months left of game time. Railslave's games are really pretty interesting. He's built this setting that's heavily influenced by stuff like PKD, 80s sci fi movies, the Bible and arcade games. His devblogs on youtube are manically fascinating. He's a pretty wicked guitar player too.
His stuff reminds me of some of the higher concept 80s underground music. Like Voivod or Plasmatics. Maybe not the friendliest thing in the world but really good at shaking things up if you are into that kind of gonzo psychonaut experience.
My birthday is coming up on Sept. 30th. Last year, my then girlfriend spoiled me with various items like an original Elivra poster. This year, I'm either asking for the new Steam Controller or a game. Priorities & all that. :P
The more things change, the more they stay that same & all that.
I'm going to try to finish Shadowrun: Dragonfall this week.
Anyone that hasn't done so from the thread already, feel free to add me as a friend on Steam. Skelemania.
PROGRESS UPDATE! I'm still getting A steam Controller when I can eventually muster it but this'll make for a great stopgap and I can finally retire the X360 controller and it's shitty analog stick drift.
This wouldn't be an issue if you had given me your address.

In most cases, you actually can get in some decent gaming time after your kid is born, especially turn-based stuff that can be played with just a mouse (Civ V is perfect for this.) Most single-player games that you can pause or save anytime will work reasonably well. If you child is a sound sleeper, you can do full on KBAM gaming if you can position the bouncy seat to rock it with your foot while playing. Don't skimp too much on the sleep, though.

Nah, it was during one of his rampages and I wanted to hit him with something big but I'm not going to go behind someone's back for his address. So I asked him right out and he refused. So I settled on Project Cars. That ship has sailed...
And found another port.
Edit: Oh and Stream news for any who care: as previously mentioned I'm busy at 6pm PDT this Saturday (9/19), therefore I'm going to move it up to 3PM PDT so I can easily get in two hours of Dark Souls 2.
Also - thanks @iolo for curious expedition! I'm really excited about the news, my wife on the other hand is just about done with the all day "morning" sickness.

Just had a look at the Steam page for this. It looks pretty cool. Will definitely be picking it up when I'm done saving for Winterdale.
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
So Pixie hatched this plan, of sorts, all because she thinks I'm defenseless. There will eventually someday someway be a response to this whole trying to feed me to wolves thing! but in the meanwhile

p.s. It's a girl !
First, congratulations!
Second, your game time will dip, but you won't care. Kids sleep a lot, just not all at once. So while you won't be tearing it up in DotA 2 you can still play something like Batman: Arkham Knight since it's easy to pause the action for a bit or save and quit wholesale. Mine are 5 and in kindergarten now and I still get (if I want it) 3 - 4 hours of game time (or movie/TV time) after the kids are in bed, the dishes are done, etc.. And as they get older you'll get different opportunities. Mine are still in bed fairly early, but they also have little iPad-esque devices called LeapPads that have learning games on them. While they're learning addition and subtraction with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I'm playing Rocket League on the PS4 or Mad Max on the laptop. I worked through Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (which is admittedly short) this way over a few weekends, and it worked out great.
My days of rolling out of bed on a Saturday and playing Mass Effect 2 all day only taking breaks for lunch and dinner are behind me, but in their place are board games with the kids, trips to the zoo, and the best excuse to get into cartoons again (Transformers: Rescue Bots is better than it has any right to be).
Also, not sure if someone else has announced it but you can grab Planetary Annihilation for $1 on Bundle Stars for the next 3 days. Tempted myself but not sure if it is my kind of game.
From the little bit I know of the game $1 sounds overpriced.
I'm pretty sure it's worth at least a dollar. It was an extremely ambitious game which had problems that extremely ambitious games have, amplified by the fury of scorned kickstarter backers.
The more worrying thing is that the developers just released a stand-alone expansion and completely removed the original game from sale on Steam; you cannot buy vanilla Planetary Annihilation anymore. That means that multiplayer is probably gonna dry up pretty quickly.

Though, are there any VNs with character customization?
