8-4 Play's the least ad supported podcast I listen to, because they don't have any ads in them in the first place (aside from the games they help localise, I guess) but the Bombcast and Beastcast are fine, even if I do kinda zone out during their ads these days.

Startalk's the worst I listen to. There's so many freaking ads and they're all pre-recorded, so it gets really repetitive.

Hey so does anyone remember forever ago when a few GB folks (and I think Mary Kish?) recorded themselves playing some sort of board game where they were dungeon explorers, but some of them were assassins or something and had to sabotage their quests, and the others had to figure out who was the bad guys?

Does anyone remember what the hell that was called? My vague googling hasn't led anywhere and I don't know when/why it was played so I dunno how to look up the video on the site.

I don't mind the adds from Giant Bomb. There are a few podcasts where I +30 second skip my way through them all of the time now though.

Someone on Tumblr asked if Jeff would ever do the types of ad reads places like Idle Thumbs does, where they talk about their relationship with the product, but Jeff seemed to shut that idea down quick. I guess he just wants people to know that ads are ads, and content is content, and nary the two shall meet. I mean, he already has his two ad voices: the "this is an ad I have to do" voice, and a "Fuck this shit, but I have to do this" voice. See: Ralphie May comedy special.

edit: I don't have a problem with the Idle Thumbs ads, but I guess we'll never hear if Jeff likes to eat Shari's Berries or shave with Harry's Razors.

I honestly don't see the issue either. I listened to the ads the first time just because I was a little surprised by the skit format (and how interminably long they were--okay, they're not that bad), and then just skip them every time in the future, like every other podcast I listen to.

I'm probably not a responsible listener.

Brad is currently playing against Palmer Luckey in Airmech VR and Dan liked my idea of Velvet Sundown VR after seeing the two robots talk to each other. It is trippy watching real voices and head movement come out of people's internet avatars. This stream is awesome. And loooooong.

I didn't really mean to set off a discussion about ads. I was just surprised at how long it was before I finally switched over to the premium feed. Like I said, they can be fun on occasion, but the Bombcast/Beastcast is fun enough on its own for me. We'll see if I miss them, but I doubt I will.

I've basically cut down my podcasts to Giant Bomb-related ones these days. Occasionally I'll listen to Retronauts, but that's about it for me. I unsubscribed from Neil deGrasse Tyson's StarTalk years ago, as well as a lot of the stuff that came out of the death of 1up.com like Geekbox and Rebel FM. They were all great for when I was commuting 50 miles a day and making a 600 mile trip every two weeks, but when all that ended it was time to cut stuff down. I still have a hard enough time keeping up with all of GB's stuff.

He definitely wants to look everywhere all the time, like he's going to miss something if he's not looking around constantly. Also Jeff's comments on Dan's constant moving were great and almost worth suffering through it.
