Rank I am not gonna argue about this in this thread
I feel it is in bad taste but I am going to say that Alcoholism is not a disease and this is coming from someone who's had to talk people from cutting their hands off because they were drinking and got depressed
alcoholism and other addictions are not a matter of "control"
alcoholism, despite what some people like to say, is a disease, and it doesn't just go away
for some people, it genuinely does get to the point where death is preferable to a life without drinking
No, I know what you mean, but, sometimes people are labeled as alcoholics when in truth they are using it more as a crutch, not an addiction. I admit, I'm one of the people who used it as a crutch for a two year period when my partner died. I'm thankful I did not become addicted, as it is in my family on both sides.
For a while though I had been convinced by others I was an alcoholic, but I quit for one simple reason. Someone finally asked me to. Didn't beg, didn't plead, it wasn't some sappy Lifetime moment, but a simple "Would you try to stop drinking for me? I'd hate to see you end up in rehab."
And I KNOW others can't do that if it is a true addiction, but sometimes, it gets confused by people who don't have any experience on it more than TV. And even then....
k, that makes a lot more sense
yeah, that's pretty much how it goes
some people are lucky and just don't ever become addicted
some are lucky enough to become addicted but end up in recovery
others, like my buddy, just ain't got it in the dice

Thanks for this. It actually shed some light on a couple of points of confusion I've had in the past with alcoholism. I don't know any alcoholics personally (the severely addicted OR the dependent drinker) so I have no idea what they go through. Very insightful, etc.
Sorry to hear about your partner.

don't be bringing that weak sauce shit into this thread
go make another joke in the Virginia Tech thread about how the dude liked to drink water so water must be to blame or something
I'm sure nobody's thought of that yet
yeah sorry about that, i'm just being a prick. as you do from time to time
these kind of things terrify me because it's close to home. i like to drink. my grandfather was an alcoholic, and my other grandfather killed himself after mental illness problems. a terrifying genetic prospect.i do think there's something else at work, beyond the alcohol, though. i think too many people aren't aware that big changes can happen to their lives without the world ending - there are modes of living, and things to appreciate, of which they aren't yet aware
but i don't know many details about this particular circumstance, so i might be talking out of my arse

Yeah, but doesn't hurt to try to joke, right? I mean honestly, when I go and my friends mourn, I want, no, I DEMAND people smack talk my friends into a smile. None of that mopey stuff. I know it hurts, but, in the event there is some kind of afterlife filled with nachos and strippers and "shove a pineapple up hitler's ass funtime", would YOU want to be looking on your friends being all sad?

Anyone know anything about Dallas? How badly does it suck? I have a chance for a job there, and want to know if it would be worth it.
talk to j grant and darth waiter
hint: it's in texas
what do you think?
Rank you would like to fornicate with me? Because seriously.
I would love to fornicate with you.
My friend from Texas says the rest of Texas hates Dallas. That peaks my interest.
I could dig it.
