As someone with only a blue shotgun is the Wolfborne Oath that Variks has worth spending a weapon core on?
It has increase damage against all Fallen, so that's a plus. Aggressive Balistics is good and Hand loaded gives more range. Decent shotgun for PoE 35 since you don't have anything else really. Would be better if it was Arc, but still. A good buy I would say.
So, I am excited - PoE 32 for an armor core (and that ridiculous Warlock hat), PoE 34 for an Etheric Light to ascend my boots (I had hoped to spend it on my Crota helmet, but one does what one must) and I will be level 34. Nightfall for a shot at another Light to max an elemental primary, and I will be ready to attempt Skolas and nab my Year One emblem!
Challenge level: I'm out of town for work all next week so I gotta hustle if I want to have something to lord over kinderguardians in the coming years.
I always feel like the Vex should be divorced from the whole Light vs Darkness fight. They either exist primarily outside linear time or at least have an easy time jumping in and out of it and are able to convert entire planets, quickly, into whatever the hell they use Mercury for. It seems like they should just be there, relentlessly and inexorably colonizing and devouring the universe. Them apparently worshipping the Darkness just seems weird. Unless they use said Darkness to fuel their capabilities. Or just cut a deal so they wouldn't have to fuck with the Hive.
As regards time travel, there's also the whole FWC insanity machine storyline. So it's not purely Vex and Rasputin.
As regards the Traveler ditching people: I get the impression that it basically means well but is primarily acting for self-preservation. It apparently can't fight the Darkness head-to-head, so it goes around uplifting species in the hopes that they'll become strong enough to help it. And I don't think it stuck around on Earth on purpose. I thought it ran away during the period ending the Golden Age, got fucked up by the Darkness, and came back to "protect humanity" (which coincidentally gave it a defense force while it heals/waits for humans to figure out how to repair it).
Is there anywhere with a topical index of grimoire cards? Like if I want to read everything about Rasputin or Eris or something I don't have to sift through all of the many cards?

Damn you are almost me. Same exact situation, itemization hopes and all, with one exception. I'm off work all next week. Guess you came from a shittier timeline. :P

Destiny presents the Mjølnerhorn, a new Exotic Rocket Launcher with Wol... Foxpack Rounds that hits really hard, look out for this brand new Exotic!
Not to be confused with Gjallarhorn, this one is red! ... Slow day at work.
I wouldnt mind seeing an exotic sword with special abilities, a quadruple barrelled Rocket Launcher with instantaneous firing or a chestpiece for Sunsinger that makes those flame wings.
I'd like to see some truly bananas exotics ala Borderlands.

I want an exotic Heavy or Special weapon that, when equipped, summons Ghost and he just shoots lasers at things. Ideally Darkseid-style lasers that shoot around at right angles somehow before hitting things.
Edit: Oh, or, Ghost could just do the spinning scan pulse thing only instead of scanning shit explodes. That'd be awesome. If they can get Nolan North to do a Mr. Torgue impression yelling "EXPLOSIONS!" every time it goes off that would be even better.

I've got it. You chuck Ghost like a grenade and he goes off using the proximity detonator logic, only as a sonic pulse that damages badguys while giving them a deafened debuff like blind weapons. And you hear (muted by distance) "A CELL! FROM THE PRISON OF ELDERS!"

@Sir Landshark if you still need one more to bang out Vault in a few minutes I can hop in.
@Custom Special hey man, thanks for the offer! I'm not sure what your GT is so maybe you were in the run, but either way we had a full group so it all worked out.

Bungie let me transmorph my old gear and I will be pretty happy.
I just loaded up Diablo 3 RoS with a friend of mine yesterday and I think 25% of the time has been spent transmorphing our gear.

I grabbed one because I didn't have a good non-exotic solar shotgun. It's decent enough. Not like any of the weapons Variks sells are super exciting, so go ahead and get it IMO.

Very fun VoG run tonight! Had two people who had never done it before and we amazingly got through the maze and the jumping puzzle with incredibly low attempts. Not sure what realmasume's forum name is, but the lucky bastard got a Timepiece! My friend managed to not get a single gun out of that run. What a surprise, no weapons at all out of Crota runs for him, and none out of this. He did get the legs and the helm, but considering he's already 32, that's not exactly exciting for him. Whatever, we'll have to give it another try this week. Sorry for all the fuckups on the relic against the Templar! Now that I have my rhythm back with him, shouldn't be tough to take him out quickly next time.
Was definitely a good time. That was my first time on hard mode in the Vault. Still think there are parts of the VoG that are too dark. Maybe I need to turn up the brightness on my TV or something.
Anyhow, now just to try to get some people to drag my trough Crota and Skolas and I can get the cool triumph thing. We'll see though. I'm not sure what I should be focusing on to try to up my light level at this point. I feel like I may be stuck at 32.
@Bolthorn this could be a pretty good week to hit 34. Iron Banner if you rep up with them you'll be given the ability to buy a thing to max out one piece of armor at rep rank 3 and 5 with them.
Running PoE should help as well.
Yeah, going to work at it. Probably stick with PoE stuff. Iron Banner always frustrated me more than it was fun. Well, I think the two times I played it anyhow. Try to get a nightfall in tonight and then see where the wind takes me.

I have one from the last time he sold it. Dunno what the perks are from then vs. now but it's a pretty solid shotgun. I use a Party Crasher +1 for PvP but the Wolfborne Oath is my go-to non-exotic for PvE. Not as much damage (in my experience) as the PC+1 but better RoF and (I think?) ammo/reload. And the Fallen perk is handy in PvE.
Also, it's a 365 weapon out of the gate. So if you're rocking a Blue shotgun it's going to be a big upgrade.

The timetravel cat is kind of out of the bag at this point, though.
I hate time travel narratives in long story arcs. They never truly work without eliminating free will / going with fate in some form, and diminish the importance of your timeline if you can just skip to another one when shit hits the fan. Same thing with the scientists doing the simulation research. I'm against narratives that describe life/theworld/thegalaxy as insignificant in the grand scheme of things, then try to tell you "Become Legend!" in the same breath.
One theory is that the Darkness had already infected earth and the other warminds, so Rasputin nuked everything to cleanse the darkness and generate light (Xur feels pain from so much light.. the pain of death), then set the solar system in a timeloop that the Darkness couldn't get into. Helps explain why the Vex can flip venus in days but can't beat the Cabal on Mars on invade the moon/earth. Also explains some of the exo stranger stuff, why Xur is so confused about his existence and why his movements are "driven by planetary alignments", and how "an end will come", and why there's so much information missing between the collapse and where we are now.

As someone who doesn't really dig PvP much, I recommend finding one of the PA IB parties. Even if you aren't great at and/or don't enjoy PvP, the social experience is a blast. And it doesn't take that many wins and bounties to get you to rank 3 for an Etheric Light.
Edit:
All the time travel talk reminds me of Stephen Baxter's Xeelee Cycle. It's a loose collection of novels and short stories set in a universe rife with time travel and kinda similar to the speculative Destiny storyline.
The Xeelee are a race of aliens (or possibly very advanced humans) who have learned how to manipulate time and reality at a fairly fundamental level. Their spacecraft are made of sheets of frozen space-time or something edged with cosmic strings. They're in this eternal war with the "photino birds", which are non-baryonic entities who only weakly interact with visible matter but are gradually consuming the energy from the cores of stars, eventually plunging the universe into darkness. Humans (and other races) spend thousands of years pretty much completely ineffectively fighting the Xeelee because they don't understand that the Xeelee mega-engineering projects to, like, collide galaxies and create black-hole jet based weapons are actually in defense of the visible-matter universe.
The time travel aspect comes up from various races manipulating time to gain power in the universe. The Xeelee in particular have looped back to the beginning of the universe multiple times to manipulate their own evolution and technological development so that on each iteration they can get closer to defeating their enemies. Another race of giant spherical space-faring organisms (the Qax, I think?) did something or other involving time traveling through wormholes to circumvent and win a war against humans for control of the solar system. Until, I think (it's been a while since I read it all), humanity managed to out-time-travel their oppressors and re-win the war.

Huh. I never knew the Nine had their own logo, but there it is on that Xur image on their Instagram page. It's very slightly similar to the Blessing of the Zealot emblem (minus the central "eye" ... which makes that emblem look like a highly stylized Vex).

Nolan North's "real" voice is nothing like that. That guy is good (he's the voice of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series and does tons of animated and other video game voices).

I've been eager to grab this when the expansion is out, but I didn't realize it was $60. That seems steep for an expansion, and the game seemed awfully small in compare to how long they'd been working on it, it makes me think the expansion couldn't have a ton of content? Keep in mind I'm only really interested in the world and story stuff. All the loot talk doesn't matter much to me, though I like getting fancy gear as much as the next guy, but it won't keep me playing.
I know it contains the original game, does it also contain all the DLC up to that point?
Also would someone starting a new char have a chance to see most everything do you think or will people not be around to do any old content? A guess of course, hard to say right now, but I figured you vet players might have a good idea of it. I only ever got to play the first two strikes (which were a blast).

The expansion is $40 (but it requires both vanilla Destiny and the two DLCs). Everything (vanilla Destiny, both DLCs and the expansion) is $60. There are a couple of other variants out there as well. Legendary edition, dance move edition, etc.
