My favorite bit so far has been Rico getting launched out of a massive explosion, flying for miles in a ballistic arc, then splashing down face-first into the ocean while still smoking from the blast. Nobody even mentions it.

In the meantime, Mario takes a hit off-screen and is down for whole missions in a row.

I saw a gif I can't find again. A train going around a corner with a plane on the back car. The plane slide off into a gorge. Bewm.
Rico's just watching it go past. Not even doing anything.

I love how the engine is inexplicably on fire...
The height of Rico's powers; chaos just by mere observation.

I mean, we are talking about a guy who can walk on the bubbling red-hot magma from an active volcano without dying instantly.

Physics says yes, Rico says no, explosions must continue. 8-)

My favourite has been the four or five times I've grappled towards a helicopter that launched a rocket straight into Rico's face and he completely ignored it because fuck you missile I'm grappling here.

Had that happen a bunch of times. Took me a while to figure out that I was getting shot by a rocket from the chopper, not from something nearby; I'd end up in the pilot's seat, slinging the chopper around and looking for the jerkwad tank that shot me while I was taking over the chopper.

Turns out I had already thrown the jerkwad out, he just tagged me with a rocket beforehand.

But whatever, it's just one rocket. A little tiny rocket at that, no more than 4-5 feet long.

I was curious how deep the ocean gets, so I fired up the trainer and gave myself unlimited oxygen and went out to one of the oil rigs. Now, swimming straight down would be too slow, so I figured the best thing to do would be to rebel drop a dump truck onto the landing pad and just drive it off the edge so I would sink faster. If I placed a waypoint at the oil rig than I would be able to tell how far away I was from the surface.

Fraps wasn't working so long story short the ocean floor beneath most of the rigs I checked was about 300 meters deep, but near one of them there was a dropoff. I went down and down and down and didn't stop until I hit an invisible floor at 3.3km deep, just a hair over two miles.

The weird thing is, at 300m down the game was still rendering "ocean floor" stuff (plants, rocks, etc), and the wreckage from some navy boats and helicopters I had blown up were sitting on the bottom.

So I've finished the story. Liberated every settlement on the island. Unlocked any pertinent gear mods needed. Futzed around with some of the leaderboard challenges. They've made a lovely toolbox, but I really wish somewhere in there they'd made a proper game out of it. It's such a retread of the previous one that I'm a little disappointed. This thing's just crying out for some sort of user-created content support. Something like the UGC missions from Infamous 2 (player created, randomly instantiated into your play experience). Let me build crude bases to blow up with pick and drop components. Let me create elaborate point to point races that I can then share out through my friends list.

Their design is just so...flat, for what the game actually grants you. I was pleasantly delighted by just how much you could do with the wingsuit, including some crazy vertical climbing straight up mountains and stuff. But I never saw a wingsuit race that didn't follow the same trad formula, I mean, on 90% of them you probably didn't even need to grapple while flying the course.

I'm really hoping that with seemingly superior modding support, people will get in and break that thing wide open in some interesting ways. It's a toybox that deserves more than what comes with it. It gave me a good, solid 40 hours of fun, and I'll likely dip in now and again for the wingsuit alone, but I think I'm pretty much done with it.

After spending enough time in JC2 multiplayer I can only imagine the level of fuckery that people could get up to in 3.

Look, a grapple can override momentum and gravity, all while keeping Rico's arm attached to his body. The force of a rocket is pretty minor in comparison. :P

I haven't tried it myself, but I noticed that the metal supports underneath are usually what break when you destroy the parts of the dish. I would start by trying to pull those down.

You could all race me at wingsuiting.

I'm also a little disappointed at the lack of things to do.
I'm thinking of getting every mod, finding all the collectibles and then reoppressing every base in the game and blowing them all up again using as many different ways of doing it as I can.

I got so lost, I think I ended up in Australia.

@Big Classy and I actually talked about that cave a while back, the first time I found it I tried swimming down a side passage and ended up drowning within sight of the surface of what looked like a secret room, Isy had the same experience. I went back and checked with unlimited oxygen and it's just a side tunnel, it simply links up with the original cave farther down the line. The cave itself just goes on for a while and opens back up on the other side of the island. I'm not really sure why it's there, except that technically you could use it to get from one side of the island to the other in a jetski, and it does provide an inlet that draws people toward Mr. Snowman.

There is a tiny room you can get to from within that cave system, but it's completely empty and you have to swim through a small hole to get to it. It looks more like a glitch than anything. I'm kinda sad that there were no underwater shenanigans because I think that underwater exploration is awesome and would have loved to go SCUBAing around ancient greek-type submerged ruins.

Hahahahaha, I had this exact same experience. Slowly... trudging... the... damn... dumptruck... to... the... damn... garage... I ended up taking it to a garage in a city that wasn't the "closest", but happened to be downhill. Dropping a dumptruck on things is one of JC3's finest experiences.

First I had to find a gate big enough to fit the truck though. Followed the wall for awhile after that until I got back on the main road. Halfway up the mountain all the damage from running over cars and exploding them caught up to me.

This second one I took the train tracks most of the way and am heading for a low ground garage.

Yeah, JC1 definitely had infinite air, one of those propulsion devices (can't remember what they're actually called) that divers sometimes use, and there was a train in one main mission.

It's funny how much they've changed both Rico and Sheldon (haha the chin/cheeks on that first version) over the course of the series.

    2 had stuff.

2 generally had better world map design. More variety, more interesting scenery. 3 is kinda samey.

the most interesting part about 3's landscape is thinking about how to wingsuit through an area...in terms of what it actually looks like visually only the first and second islands are anything intersting and the second is mostly because it has lots of underground cave bases with plenty of heights that make things more varied.

The lack of a proper city is disappointing. That isn't a capital, it's a freaking village.

I fucking love the wingsuiting and base destruction in this game but its a step back from 2 in terms of world map quality, especially when it comes to making the land just look interesting. There were areas in 2 you'd just step back and go wow. There's some of that in 3, but most of that big upper island is trees trees trees trees trees windmills trees trees trees mountains trees.

    Also trees.

I think that JC2 had way more environmental variety, you had beaches and jungles and a huge desert and high moutains and snowy areas. JC3 has forests and snow and rocky mining areas and that's about it.

I really like the increased "verticality" though, more mountains to fly around on and tunnels to faceplant into zoom through compared to JC2.

I think it's because of the new engine. Having caves is a lot better than just a height-map with objects on it, but it probably meant they had to spend a lot of time hand-sculpting areas. It's a trade off, when it comes to choosing where you focus your development time.

As a series veteran, here's some things I miss that were in JC1:

    * The animation on Rico's necklace.
    * The agency vehicles, especially the sweet missile-launching black spy-turbo-boat.
    * The cool, calm ambient music that played while you were in free-fall from a high altitude.
    * Infinite Air.

Things that haven't really changed at all:
    * On-foot combat whilst just walking/running is still almost as clunky as ever, in that adorable Just Cause way.
    * Car doors still never close again if they get left open, just eventually get ripped off.
    * Car handling is only marginally better in JC3 compared to JC1.

I know what you mean, but I'm more talking about, like, the aesthetic design of standing on a point and looking out across a vista. Depth is good but there are barely any caves etc in the top map. All the caves are in the second area which is great.

It's the biggest top map which feels pretty wasted. No caves, no real use of the ability to go underground etc. Just....big mountains and trees for miles and miles.
Stand on any point on the top map and look around and its all kinda...boring.

The volcano was cool and all but it was also a humongously large area for a single mission and kinda wasted otherwise.

It isn't just a "new engine" I'm talking about artistic direction which a new engine doesn't automatically limit. That's just an excuse.

If you are on foot for more than 0.0001 of a second you are definitely playing the game completely wrong.

I basically was never actually on the ground unless I had a very specific thing to do. For example, lay some c4.
And then I was no longer on the ground again.

Any time you are in a stand up fight in this game you are fucking up.

The only times I ever hit the ground in 99% of fights in this game was me screwing something up and accidentally falling to earth.

One of the hint texts even outright tells you "if you are using the parachute or in the wingsuit enemies have a hard time hitting you HINT HINT HINT HINT"

So yeah, don't panic about that, it means nothing. Ground combat isn't what the game is about. The game is the movement system. You use that movement system to move your explosions around from one place to the next, where ever they are required.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/JustCause/comments/3x2ql9/patch_102_coming_this_week_a_message_for_our/
Hey all, I'm FistofZeno, from the JC3 Team (taking over from the lovely Petra for now), and I've got a bit of news for you today.

We’re pleased to announce that Patch 1.02 is coming to PC & consoles this week. The patch will be hitting PS4 in Europe first this afternoon, rolling out across other consoles over the next day or two, pending final approvals, with the PC version landing on Friday. Since launch, we’ve been poring over your reviews and comments to help us prioritise our fixes accordingly. We know many of you have been patiently awaiting this patch, and this update is part of a much larger plan to optimize and improve the game. Thanks for your patience here.

In the 1.02 patch (132.1MB), you can expect:

    *Significantly improved loading times

    *Optimizations to online stats

    *General stability fixes

*Fixed an issue related to challenges, wherein vehicles sometimes disappeared when starting a challenge

*Fixed issues related to screen resizing and closing the game window before the game has fully started up [PC Only]

To those of you still having issues, rest assured we are working hard to alleviate these, and are listening very closely to everything that’s being said.

While the patch will improve performance on the whole, we’ve listened to some of the other concerns raised about the game and put together a little list of points which might alleviate these issues:

UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENES You can skip cutscenes, in fact – all you need to do is hold B on your gamepad, or hit ‘Skip’ from the pause menu.

NO SPRINT BUTTON This isn’t an oversight; it’s very much intended. Our designer’s intent was to encourage you to use Rico’s unique grapple to move around Medici far quicker than his legs would allow, as well as giving you the ability to traverse vertically.

NO CROUCH Rico doesn’t hide. Getting him up in the air is our version of the cover mechanic. Rico is far more deadly in the skies, than pinned behind a container on the ground.

FINDING THE LAST CHAOS OBJECT While there’s no mini-map to help you liberate bases and towns, you can always bring up your map to help find Chaos objects. When you’re down to the last few objects in any given settlement, an approximate location for these will be displayed on the map.

For more hints and tips for improving your experience and really getting the most out of the game, check out our Hints and Tips thread on the Steam hub, and feel free to add your own.

Again, a huge thanks for your support over the past week, and look out for more news soon.

    -FistofZeno
