Max killed Joe's wife and child.

    Not

    really.
He sort of did, though. He nicked Splendid, which lead directly to her death and the death of her unborn son.

Sure, he didn't mean her any harm, but it was still shown to be his fault.
Everything that happens in the movie is a response to Joe's treatment of the people he rules over, and her death happens because he is unable to let them go. Everyone's deaths are his fault.

But yeah, Joe himself blames Max so there is a similar theme with that.

I don't think I've ever been entertained during a Tarantino movie. He's like a 12 year old artist who responds to criticism of his poorly scribbled work with "It's on purpose... It's my style!"

I think you're looking at it wrong. Horrible things happen because of Joe, duh. He's the film's villain and a reprehensible person, and if he wasn't, none of the film would happen. However, that specific bad thing was something he put every effort into avoiding. He stopped firing entirely when Splendid played human shield. If he'd been making all the calls, she'd still be alive. Sure, she'd wish she was dead, likely as not, but alive all the same.

Max is the reason she died. The film makes a point of it with the shot of the bullet wound being why she fell.

More than one person can have responsibility for a disaster.

Funnily enough, the only Tarantino movie whose pacing I had a problem with was Django. Might have something to do with the absence of Sally Menke.

Kill Bill parts 1 and 2, taken together as a single movie, is my favorite Tarantino movie.

I think it's his magnum opus.

I think the show might be a little more approachable than the movie other then the fact the actors are all playing waaaaaaay outside their age.

I have never seen a Tarantino trailer that I enjoyed. I love all his films except for Jackie Brown, but I only saw it once, years ago. Considering I'm on a Justified kick, I should go back and watch that again.

Also, re: Wet Hot American Summer...
The motorcycle chase and the scene where he gets back to camp and it's clearly a stunt double both destroy me.

I might be able to actually. I just don't know how.

As it is my facial hair defaults to "wild man" after about a month without shaving and I don't know how to control it.

Just watched Kill Bill: Vol. 1 again. I forgot just how great the fight between Kiddo and O-Ren is. From the music in the first half, to the shot of their standoff with the clap of the fountain; from O-Ren's moment of realization and her apology, to the splash of blood that signals the end of the battle; that scene is incredible.

But I still vastly prefer Vol. 2.

And who can forget the ending?

"So, Grotowski said, 'If it burns, try to change some little thing in yourself.' And I tried to do that - didn't work."

And then Andre just flicks the cigarette onto the gasoline.

"But maybe you'll have better luck."

    Holy shit, right?

    Ozu Ozu Ozu Ozu Ozu

His films, particularly his later ones, are essentially meditation. I tend to watch one every couple weeks, and have for years.

Plus, his pictures. He's a formal master in a way that's much quieter, but equally rigorous to someone like Kubrick. He just applied that craft to the modern Japanese family and the places they lived instead of more extravagant subjects.

You can pick just about any of his movies from '49 onward and get a good sense of what he was up to, but my favourite is likely Early Summer.

    2.jpg

Kogonada captures a bit of his atmosphere and one of his favourite framing techniques nicely with this video.

So I guess there's a rumor going around that Paramount is developing a 90s Nickelodeon mega film featuring Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life and more.

I'm a little skeptical but now is definitely a good time to release a big 90s themed nostalgia bomb.

My favorite movie is Flash Gordon, because it doesn't try to be anything else than over the top comic action and dammit, I first found that movie at the point where
The head of the secret police is murdered, the city bombarded, and everything after that......damn

It also turned me onto queen. Although it would be another 20 years before I realized they had been doing the theme song to Highlander.

I can't see any of these quite working today, with the exception maybe of Rugrats, but I would love to see them try.

Hot Take: Hey Arnold is the best. Even better than those other shows that are the best.

Hey Arnold is absolutely the best of the 90s Nickelodeon lot, yeah

That kinda bums me out because I'd like 90's nostalgia to take the form of the unreleased Hey Arnold movie where they go to the jungle.

Help me raise a little cash for my transition costs
