Oh now wait a minute... them's fightin' words.

Especially when the northwest has some really great brewpubs, you might find yourself biting your tongue on that one... too bad Maritime Pacific's jolly roger is not yet in season.

Sigh...I'm sorta new to this whole forum thing so I'll try not to be a dick. That being said:

    1) Ale is beer like scotch is whiskey. Look it up.
    2) 1554 is made in the good ole US of A. It is based on a reciepe found by the New Belgium Brewing Company, (USA).

Personally, bitch beer covers beers and minor alcoholic beverages like Smirnoff Ice and Bacardi Silver and shit. The stuff that has 4-8% alcohol, but taste like your drinking a jolly rancher. I would be so inclined as to add Keystone Light to that list, since when that goes down, it's like drinking a mildly flavored water.

But in the context of how much booze is in beer, I'd say that list is about right. Most American brews are weak sauce.

I'd say that for straight drinking, I love Hefe Weisen (Peach being my choice), Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve and Keystone Ice for winding down.

But any day, I'd rather have a bottle of Sailor Jerry's spiced rum or some nice mixed drinks.

I think of the mild beers put out by the US megabreweries as daytime beers

after the sun goes down and I'm sitting indoor somewhere I enjoy a better beer

or finally switch to hard liquor...

Yes, thats what I was referring to. The mega-brewery mainstream beers, not the indie or micro brewery variety. I'm sorry if I came off sounding like an elitist Canadian.

I have a strange relationship with beer. I enjoy the taste of some beer. Hoegarden(sp?) is probably one of the tastiest beers I've ever had. However, my stomach isn't too fond of the stuff. Usually what happens these days is that I'll fill up too fast and not be as drunk as I'd like, or if I try to add liquor to the mix, the results are less than desirable. So, while I might drink a beer or two at Sealab for taste, chances are you'll see me with a shot or mixed drink in my hand next weekend.

The only beer I've found I can drink and actually enjoy is Fat Tire. I'll nurse a Corona or whatever, but generally it's all about mixed drinks and hard liquor for me.

In other news, I did the booze shopping today:

    1. Pearl - pomegranate vodka. Goes great with Canada Dry.

    2. Bacardi Coco. I will never understand why people drink Malibu instead of this.

    3. Stoli - strasberi and vanilla.

I will be serving up one of my favorite mixed drinks, The Crying Jamie. It's not too sweet, tastes great, and could knock you on your ass. Still trying to work out the details on bringing mixers though.

I know I will start with harder stuff, but believe me, after a few hours, I'll be nursing some beers. I just hate filling up on beer when I could get drunk faster then start on some less alcoholic beverages.

They have been cracking down on people recently, so don't get busted! I have friends who live in Spokane and many many people have been fined severely for smuggling booze and cigarettes across the border.

Seriously? Aren't there laws about not restricting interstate commerce and that jazz? How is getting fined for that legal in any way?

Sure there are, but those laws are in favor of the state, right? Basically: if you bring something over from ID are you going to pay the tax to WA? If the answer is no, you're in violation of WA state law. It's randomly enforced, but the law is still there.

It's not really worth it for the state to go after the small violators, but the laws are definitely in place. You're technically supposed to declare anything you buy in, say, tax-free Oregon when you send in your taxes in February, but there's really no way for the state to check, so I can't imagine that you purchasing some Everclear in Idaho which I will SURELY reimburse you for would be a big deal.

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003574768_tobaccotax16m.html

Cigarette taxes are another beast entirely, especially if you purchase online.

On the subject of smuggling... Since I be a local boy living in Ballard and more than likely riding my bicycle to PAX, is there a way I could drop booze/beer off at the sooper seekrit location before the event takes place? I know they don't want/allow anyone to cart alcohol around inside the convention center, but I need to contribute!

Not a problem at all. Someone from the Sealab party would be cool with just escorting you up to the room to drop off the boozes. Hell, if you want, I can grab it from you after the breakfast and drop it off in our room. Sound like a plan, good buddy?

I'm not signed up for the Pre-PAX breakfast (I'll see if my group is willing to move at 9AM), but I wouldn't be adversed to dropping off my box of fifths there.

Has a specific location for the party been posted? If so, can the first post be editted to reflect that? Or if not, how do we best go about finding out the location of the party? We could all just follow Tony Hellmann from the T-P booth when he leaves, but that would most likely annoy him after a while. Especially if he had to stop to use the can on the way.
