Ah, if only I could use this USB to store a partial download at the library, and transfer that to my steam pc, and fill in the gaps with my slow ass internet.

I miss South Korean intertubes dearly.

EDIT - Except the part where I have to VPN to an American server just to appear American. Also, Korean internet is so heavily censored I had to VPN out just to watch a Youtube playthrough of Silence of the Sleep.

    Random controller issues...

So...picking away at the backlog. Topaz on Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved is still proving a touch too tough for me, so i set that aside, and glancing through the easy to jump into stuff in my backlog decided to give Not a Hero another go. Only to discover it doesn't want to play well with the XBox1 controller i've got...saa...so that'll go back on the backlog backburner for awhile.

So, just incase anyone else was thinking of it (and isnae a KBAM'er or using a different controller), that might be a point to consider.

Maybe i'll give Saviours a try.

[addendum] Saviours is hard. And reminds me of something i played way back on the Genesis, though i couldnae for the life of me tell you what it was called[/addendum]

Shutting down GFWL would demonstrate a serious commitment to PC gaming as far as I'm concerned.
Not really. Microsoft have already all but abandoned it. Any new games coming out from them don't use GFWL. They either come out on steam, or annoyingly only the windows marketplace. shutting down GFWL would only lead to the loss of games. Most great games have already been stripped of GFWL, but there are still a few.

Granted, most of them are bad, but you still have games like Bulletstorm.

    Max?

I have a couple of friends who have given their respective kids game-related names (confirmed to me to be deliberate) but managed to do so with great subtlety. One has a surname beginning with S, and so named her son so his initials were NES. The other named his first son with the first name Max, middle name Samuel, in honour of the Sam & Max games.

So there are in fact ways to do it without being horrible to your kid!

As much as I am glad to be done with GFWL, and as cool as it was for WB to put out the Steam GTOY of Arkham City and give it to anyone who owned the GFWL version, I'm really bummed they killed the leader boards in the switchover.

The Steam version has no leaderboards (which is kinda lazy), and the GFWL version can't be activated anymore because it was removed from Securom, and you can't get a key. I put hundreds of hours into the challenge rooms. I made it to the top of a few predator room leader boards. All those... records... will be lost, in time, like...tears in the rain.

I haven't played System Shock 1 since I was 16. Very very good game that was ahead of its time, but now it might suffer a bit due to modern control sensibilities.

I believe this is patched to include a more modern mouselook-based control scheme as well, so you don't have to deal with ASDX tank controls, Z-X strafing, RFV pitch, QWE lean, and all that other sorts of crazy (albeit inventive) stuff.

Clash of Heroes is $2.50. It is a fun match three game with interesting mechanics and an engaging enough story using the younger characters of the heroes from 4 or 5? I found it rather fun.

I really need to get some friends over and dust off my Gamecube copy of Pac Man VS. one day. I had a blast with it when it came out, and it's a lot of fun showing it to people who have never heard of it before. And there are a LOT of people who haven't. It's a great little casual game, though, and I'm not sure if Crawl fits into that. I can't honestly say either way since I haven't played it, but it strikes me as a little more advanced compared to Pac Man VS.

Crawl is mechanically straightforward. You have two buttons (attack and special) with some very light RPG mechanics, and even the most casual of gamers can quickly grasp it. Figuring out what the monsters's abilities do is the hardest part, but that's part of the fun, really.

Today "Rivals of Aether" entered Steam Early Access.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zujDjI_tRBQ

Essentially it is a very competent Smash clone with a lot of crazy ideas and GBA style graphics. Both local and online multiplayer (though I haven't tried the online yet myself). Pretty solid and fun so far, the gameplay is more reminiscent of melee, fairly quick and combos are a distinct possibility, but it also seems pretty easy to pick up and play. All the characters seem pretty fun and have their own particular gimmick (though Zetterburn is probably the easiest to pick up and play). Think they want to have eight characters by launch (six currently).
