Had no luck with sniper rifles, ranked up with Vanguard and got a Void 1000 Yard Stare with Ambush Scope, Grenadier, Perfect Balance/Handlaid Stock/Will of Light and Firefly... Yeah, Vanguard you are alright.
well it wasn't easy, by @jefe414, @Arteen and myself have emerged victorious from the Taken Ketch, each with a shiny new exotic sniper rifle, and I with a shiny new ship too.
I just looked at that Omolon Uzume RR4 that the Gunsmith is taking orders for.
I don't know that I've ever owned a low-impact sniper. I put the order in because "why not", but anyone have any thoughts on these vs high impact?

@Wraith260 , @Arteen and i managed to do it. Killed the boss twice but couldn't get the mobs down until the 5th attempt. Wraith got the cool ship as a bonus. 3 titans, NO MERCY.
little update on the Black Spindle, like the Boolean Gemini it only requires level 30 to equip, but at a whopping 310 attack it'll do a better job of raising your alts light level and should prove to be a big help in getting better gear from engrams.

If the chart I'm reading is accurate then if you luck out with the roll it may be a Playdate's Revenge replacement. Nothing matches that gun's base stability though.
Stability + Rate of Fire for PvP all day
Edit: Assuming it's a 2 body-shot kill. Didn't catch the damage difference.

I'm curious to know whether you can get the ship if you do it a second time after you've already received the sniper.
EDIT: And obviously didn't get the ship the first time.
Note to everyone getting the black spindle. Deep confirmed that it dropping at 310 is a bug and it is supposed to drop at 290. So get em whole they are hot. Also he implied that the kiosk will change them to 290 as well, so infuse with em while you can.

This is why I want to try and get it tonight. Bug or not, it's going to annoy me to no end at all the people taking advantage of this bug and me being stuck at 281 light because RNG that's why.
Addendum to my above black spindle post. It looks like the 310s are going to be lowered retroactively as well according to the wording. So it might be wise to use it to infuse another legendary or exotic above 300. Buyer beware and all, of course.
Managed to get the Spindle as a 290, with my teammates being 293 and 291, respectively. The key is to get to the boss with at least six minutes remaining. Use Nightstalker supers and grenades along with rocket launchers to manage the adds while one person focuses on the boss entirely. We had two Nightstalkers and a Sunsinger, and aside from using my super on adds, I focused exclusively on the boss. Finished with 20 seconds to spare.
290+ light level is definitely required, but a few more light levels won't make up for competence and communication.

I'm really hating the new light system
You mean the system that is exactly the same as the old system but just uses different numbers for the same effect? :P I did think it was a funny PR move switcheroo with the LL stuff when it's the exact same basically as it was before.
man, another golden nugget from Nolanbot. got a quest from Eris that needed me to do The Promethean Code on Herioc, which adds an extra boss fight at the end*. just as the boss spawns my little light exclaims "Great, I hope we get some new pants out of this".
*i didn't realise it was at the end of the level and back tracked through half the bunker thinking i'd missed something before finally giving up and getting what i was there for anyway.
1. Shields in this mission seem to be Nightfall quality, so a Yellow Bar with a Void Shield will just shrug at Flame Shotguns. This is most relevant because the tank room has three Yellow Wizards with Void Shields spamming Devoured Thralls and Necroblast. Thus, you'll want a Void Shotty or hella upgraded sword to cut the wizards down quick.
2. The same room has four yellow vandals positioned on the balconies. They're very hard to kill at range due to their bubbles, so you have to get in their faces and cut them down.
3. Beware of the Captain Ambush in the transition space between first room and the tank room.
So void is necessary, what shield does the boss have?
No shield, just a buttload o' health and the ability to spam throw those damn blind orbs
Also whoever decided to put Taken Captains in tight narrow corridors deservesthe game at all a kick in the nuts.
man i fucking hate Taken Captains.
seriously, fuck Taken Captains!!!

I hate all Taken equally.
Except from maybe Psions, Thralls and Acolytes as they're pretty easily dealt with.
The rest are all a pain in the ass in some way or other.
I actually rather like fighting Taken Captains at mid to long range, because then you have a decent amount of time to dodge their blasts and dodging projectiles is something I always enjoy in shooters.

Ya I think that's why it bothers me so much, all the PR about light levels going away, and now it's exactly the same if not worse. I'm really nite sure if it's better, it feels worse to me though. Maybe it's the small one by one increases instead of a light level being a big milestone.
It's feels worse to me and it feels like I'm gated out of anything interesting all because of some blue boots, and shitty rolls on Def for heavy, artifact, and warlock band.
I have a shotgun with 297 atk, but everything else is crap. And I'm just going to fall further behind as everyone infuses their bugged black hammer.

I do find the Taken Captains the most annoying, but overall I really like how the Taken have made the fights so different overall.
My only real complaint is how difficult they are to tell apart due to all looking almost identical.

The real difference in the light system is that you will just passively find better items as you increase your light level, which causes you to get better items which causes your light level to raise which causes you to get better items.
I'm at 289 now wearing mostly blues because I haven't gotten purps that I really like the perks on, but the ramp up has felt relatively smooth.

Did the Exotic Sniper quest thing twice, did it with Booker and Evil Monqey and then my friend logged on in that same moment as we left the place and I wanted to go to bed, I knew he wanted it so we just headed back in again with help from @Erevar , first time completion had 1.24 minute left, second had ... 8(!) seconds left, still won both times on the first attempt!
I fucking love Stormcaller! (If bungie asks, its shit! Please dont nerf it!)
Light Level matters couldnt do it with my previous fireteam with a guy at 168.
But thanks to Fondor_Yards and weddellkw , we one shot it and gotten our sweet sweet Black Spindle!
Yea we knocked it out nice and quick. I was starting to panic there at the end, lucky I still had rockets and just spammed them at that last captain. Think we got to the boss with about 6:15 left and killed the last guy with about 8 seconds left. I had to admen my statement before, probably good 75% of my 125 kills where psions in the boss room. Stormcaller almost seems a must there just for clearing adds, I used up 3 full supers just floating around zapping fools. There was so many guys my lighting almost made it wall to wall.
