Alas, no Spindle for me - that is quite the challenge!
@PotatoNinja and @Cleveralias made the attempt, but we tended to lose too much time in the tank room, and then we'd just get run over by adds in Driviks' chamber.

I couldn't even get it. Tried a few times but the closest we got was taking down the boss with a couple seconds left, but of course there were still tons of adds to clear.
I'm just not even sure how to beat it. Have one person focus on adds while the other two focus on the boss? I feel like we couldn't even poke our heads out without getting annihilated

I'd like to start attending some of the King's Fall groups on Xbone side, plenty of time in VoG and CE (with people from this here forum, even) so hardly a raid neophyte but rather like right after launch and CE it looks like there are set groups that have basically formed up for consistent runs as I see the same folks grouped every night on the friends list.
Is there still a chance for folks who haven't run the raid yet to get in on the 100 sign-ups, or has that ship sailed until the raid is on full farm status? LL is 292, for reference.

I still need 2 more raids this week, so if I see you on I'll try to invite you. Was thinking of trying to get a group going on Saturday.
Alternatively, start your own raid on the 100, seems like a lot of people have come back for TTK and there should be enough to fill a group.
Also, after our Oryx kill tonight I can confirm that Touch of Malice is hilarious to use in that fight.

Question about Oryx fight roles
Who drew the short stick and ending up running?
Chippaz volunteered and did a great job. I think at one point he even said it was kind of relaxing.
I did the same thing as our first run, and we had our 4 first-timers each take a platform.
Malice worked especially well for me since I rarely take damage there and could use the 2x damage shots on ogres to save sniper ammo.
As for loot, I got the scout rifle, the helmet, and a 310 chest!
Friend and I two manned the black spindle mission. He as a stoemcaller managed most of the adds. I dealt with orbs and the boss from the entrance. When big adds like captains or Knights would spawn we'd hit them together then I'd go back to shooting the boss.
Took us about 4 tries. We finally did it with 5 seconds to spare with psions multiplying, luckily my friends super pooped and he fried them all.
Intense and very fun mission. We were at 295 lightlight.
I saw some headline about an exotic sniper in the daily and didn't bother reading any details and jumped in solo to do it. Halfway through a couple of friends invited me to do it with them, and I jumped in. Got my Black Spindle in the second attempt, but man that was brutal. A certain boss should start digging his grave.
So what do people think about their exotic swords? The void one is crazy good for PvE. The hard attack dashes forward and you rapidly spin a few times. You can hit a single enemy multiple times. Most of the time you do enough damage to kill a major in one spin move. I didn't try it in PvP, I'm not sure how much that move will help. I'm curious to hear what people think about the other elements.
Sorry to @metaghost and @Wassermelone (I think) for me bailing after a single attempt on shadow taniks. Just got home from a 4 hour lecture on property law and just didn't have it in me.
Probably too late for anyone this time, but for our group the key was to take out the orbs asap. Even if it meant dying. There's only like 7 or 8 sparwns and if you take them out you really keep the adds clean.
We had plenty of dps time. We also had two of the y2 exotic fusions which helped us speed through the rooms and wizards
They also two shot the orbs and do plenty of damage to the boss without exposing yourself much

It's all good. I tried it many times with various folk and just couldn't get it done. That boss fight is a steaming pile of bullshit. Captains of all sorts need a fucking timer on their blind ball spam and the way the Psions reproduce is preposterous.
@JusticeforPluto , @skyknyt , and I almost had it on one run, downing the boss with a minute left but then we all wiped and the countdown is so fucking long.
Does anyone know what the deal with the glowing glyphs on the wall in the area to the left of the court is?
The markings only appear some times and they consist of mixtures of the various court runes.
i wonder if there's some sort of win streak order you can do them in to unlock something. When doing court you can actually make multiple statues glow at once, so that could be part of it too.
Got all excited because I had enough legendary engrams to get boots. Then I realized it was only 4 defense more than what I have. So, I just have to keep running strikes to hope things drop where I need them that up my total def/atk so that it just averages out?
Here's why I hate this game at times. I hear about people running and getting the black spindle all night why I'm at work. Get home and post, and mention I'm at 281 light. Everyone was saying 290 was ideal if not higher, so I'm not about to go to LFG. No one hits me up, so I do some heroic strikes and crucible. Up to 282 light now woo hoo.
Meanwhile, the rich get richer infusing their weapons with the bugged Black Spindle, and my opportunity to get is gone. So, I'm still 8 light below the raid level minimum, and just have to keep running strikes to hope to get lucky.
Sometime I feel like I'm just wasting my time when I play, and the further I fall behind everyone the less I want to play. It's fun, but I feel like I'm just playing catch up half the time.

Or it's something way simple and less cool
They correspond to the side rooms in the Hall of Souls. When one is lit up, there's a hive/taken ritual going on in there. You can go in, fight off 3 waves of Taken, and grab a tomb husk that spawns which will give you the Interloper buff. You then have 90 seconds (maybe 60?) to find a hidden chamber with a chest in it, the main entrance is a small hole outside one of the rooms, surrounded by spider webs. (There's also a side entrance in a small tunnel, but I can't remember how to get there) The room and the tunnels leading into it are covered in a black goo that gives you a debuff called Taken Consumption, which is a super-strong damage-over-time. You can't get to the chest and open it normally without dying.* However, with the Interloper buff, you and others near you can work your way through the goo and open the chest which has a calcified fragment and other stuff in it. The chest takes like 5+ seconds to open so you want to get there quick.
*Of course, you can cheese it with a sword by holding block, or by using an armor of light Defender bubble near the chest, or a Sunsinger with self-res and radiant skin, or...

I wouldn't stress so much over one item. I tried for it 8-9 times and still didn't get it (with three 290's). People with a lot of play time will always have a leg-up in games like these. It's not a race, especially when it comes to raiding or difficult missions.

The game's a week old, and the current hard cap is 310. I was relieved to hear that the Black Spindle is daily only, and will be lowered to 290, because it removes a huge amount of pressure to go for it. I've dragged my current sniper rifle from 257 to 285 by feeding it a bunch of blues and I've grown quite attached to it!
As a brand new player, every time I log in I feel like I'm making progress. I've spent 21 hours on story, 11.5 on patrol and 5.5 on strikes and I'm at 287. Mostly I've just been progressing quests, fighting Taken lieutenants/zealots as they pop up, and spent an hour or so killing things in the Court of Oryx yesterday. I wouldn't get discouraged so quickly, Xur's back soon, right?
Not to mention it would only bump up your special weapon slot. Realistically Even though max light level is (as far as we know) 310, The reality is outside of a few weeks of farming, lucky drops and rolls, you are effectively at max level at probably 295-300ish. That is the point where 90% or more of your upgrades are going to come from the raid, and hoping your raid items roll high.
We gave the BS run a couple of tries last night. It's an interesting and fun challenge. We were kind of close, I read some strategies after we gave up, and they made it seem like it was more manageable than we made it.
However hearing it was supposed to be for a 290 exotic and they would be retroactively fixing the gun made me scoff and go 'no that's not really worth the trouble'. Next time around it'ill be significantly easier to get (everyone will be closer to 300+).
Anyone else noticing a lack of shotgun drops? I haven't gotten a single blue or purple shotgun since TTK launched. I had to do the shotgun kills part of the gunsmith quest with a green shotgun that happened to drop for me. Now I have to get blue / purple ones in order to break them down.

Kill the Taken spawn globes, then clear adds, then focus on the boss. Rinse and repeat. Adds come in intervals, so clearing them gives you a nice window to focus on the boss.
Thing is, you can't play this fight like the old Destiny where you hunker down in an enclosed space and wail on the boss from relative safety. You have to be active and aggressive and create opportunities for yourself. I considered using Sunsinger for the self-rez safety, but honestly that would not have helped at all. Stormcaller was much more useful for clearing trash and without that super I don't think we could have cleared it as easily.
Whoever compared it to a mini-Skolas fight is right on; it has the same kind of tempo.

Did they stop yellow bar enemies dropping glimmer in the taken king?
I've killed loads over the last couple of days, seen the blue glimmer drop out of their bodies but I'm not actually getting any glimmer.
Did you check if you were really not getting glimmer? I swear to god I get glimmer capped all the time and I don't always see the glimmer gains from majors. I'm ~thinking~ it's a display glitch. Perhaps they moved glimmer gains to those ghosts perks only?

I must of tried the Black Spindle quest 8 times last night and was only succesful once (sorry for the third group I had to bail on. I was getting so tired that I was becoming sloppy).
And honestly I don't even like sniper rifles. So essentially I didn all that work for 1 light level
I set up a thing on the Pax Arcadia 100 group. I'm gonna be running the Vanguard Strike playlist when I get home and streak it if anyone wants to join me. I heard if I don't go to orbit after each strike, the chances of getting better drops stacks higher and higher, so I'm gonna do that for a couple hours!
