Pugs are cute, but pretty unhealthy dogs. I would pat and play with one, but I wouldn't be sad if the breed just entirely went away within a couple generations.
I have a Maltese and as a puppy when he would run around in my parents' backyard with their dogs, he loved to slide underneath the bottom stair of the stairway to the upper patio.
Until the day he tried doing it when he was a little too big. He didn't cry, but he sure as hell never tried again after that.

pugs used to have faces long enough to have proper nasal passages, but too often in dog breeding the drive for winning shows leads breeders to focus on appearance/what is in style/what the judges will look for rather than the health of the dog. A dog show judge is going to look at your dog for at most a few minutes. It needs to look right, stand straight, and run in a circle and that's about it. They can't tell if it's going to have breathing problems, or issues with it's hips in 3-5 years, or anything else, so some breeders will unfortunately overlook or ignore serious health problems because they don't impact the dog's chances of winning, and then those traits become part of the breed.
Pugs are one example of this, but cavalier king charles spaniels, English bulldogs, heck even German Shepherds tend to have a lot of issues with bad hips because of an emphasis on show appearance rather than health.
Pugs used to be a healthy, functional breed but we absolutely did ruin them. I assume/hope there are still some breeders out there with older lines that are bred for heath, that still have the longer faces and so on, and it would be great if that soft of pug could make a comeback, but when I look at modern pugs as they wheeze down the street I get really sad. It's not the dog's fault, but at some point it feels unethical to keep deliberately breeding dogs that you know are going to have major health issues.
Edit: not calling anyone out for liking or even owning pugs. Once the dogs are born they deserve the happiest lives/homes they can get same as any other dog but I would really like to see pug breeders make a concerted effort to try and improve the health of the breed, or if they can't breed a healthy dog, stop breeding.

"even" German shepherds? German shepherds as a breed has pretty much been 100% destroyed. Compare prize winning German shepherds from before 1950
to current ones

Maybe I'm just bad at dogs, but those all look pretty similar to me?
The modern one is definitely striking a pose, but the general face, body shape and coat all look about the same. I know German Shepards definitely do have hip issues these days, but how do these pictures illustrate that?

Dogs bred to be working and healthy dogs tend to have hips as high as their shoulders. For some reason show breeders bred dogs to have lower hips. If you look at wild wolves, African dogs...ect. They will have backs relatively parallel to the ground.

Look at the angle of the back legs? They are no longer positioned underneath the the hip-joint, but behind it, which will cause unnecessary stress.
Because of videos of nervous dogs on the Internet, I was perhaps a little too impressed by my buddy's corgi's ability to transverse two flights of apartment roof access stairs.
Of course, the dog in question was mostly just getting impatient I wasn't going down quickly enough, trying to herd us down the stairs and all.
i would certainly say while not my first choice, my brother did get a pug and it has grown on me for sure.
this is more my speed dog-wise
I think this is actually a Pomsky, not a Husky, Pomsky's rock, I want one so bad. They are basically Huskie's, that look like Husky puppies, FOREVER.
either way its adorable, i just googled husky and picked a photo
Oh ya, Huskies still rule, in a way huskies being so rad is what makes Pomskies so adorable, google Pomsky, and know that those aren't puppies, those are 5-10 year old dogs, that just still look exactly like Husky puppies.

Seriously, though, pugs are adorable.
WE DID THIS TO THEM

Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.

it is also adorable when the humans try to get in on that action.

Bonus points if they still try to fit in the same places they did as a puppy.
