I guess I must have learned something, because my Waywatcher is currently using the sword/dagger combo, and a longbow. I just preferred those weapons after playing with a bunch. The dual daggers and dual swords were AWFUL, the sword/dagger and lone sword just felt much better overall. Also I love her accent and general bloodthirstiness. 'Clan Skyre ambush, excellent!'

The Soldier's blunderbuss has a push and super fast reload, it's the only one I'd really keep out for hordes of small enemies. Most of the time I'm shield bashing to keep the overzealous WH, Elf, or Wizard alive while they try to get just ahead of the group to pad their super elite stats, though.
Got my first exotic on that run with Sander, a falchion for the Soldier. It's good, but I'm not sure how it would make up for the loss of a shield. Shields are just way too good in general right now, no real reason to use anything else if you can use one.
But most of all the falchion just looks great, which is what matters.
Oh and for a longbow waywatcher, bodyshots should be good enough on commons. and you can bodyshot a common just with leftclick, no pullback. Pulling back is for specials and for hordes.
In general with ranged I really try to take out enemies on the side or back of my companions, if I'm safe. Those are the most likely to not be noticed, and all those swipes add up.

Blunderbuss also has a really nice piercing effect, killing enemies in a line.
For the waywatcher in particular, the dagger/sword combo is seen as the best weapon because it has huge headshot damage on normal kills, which means that it can very quickly mow through commons.
The shortbow is pretty disappointing I found, and even the poison version is situational. It does a small AoE but the damage seems low.
Does the wide arc of the sword swing actually pick up the headshot ability of the daggers? I haven't used sword and dagger for a long time after I got a pair of blue daggers, but it felt like only the dual dagger animations, not the dual sword animations, got the headshot ability. Coupled with how fast and straight the dagger charge attack is for elites I've been happier with it over the sword and dagger where it cycles the dual sword charge and dual dagger charge.
The hagbane bow doesn't kill instantly? While you can't rely on it since it's a 2% or 3% proc the poison proc from trinkets kills everything but rat ogres instantly, they either grab their necks in a choking animation then fall over or just fall over and die. I've used the hagbane bow for all of one or two runs since it was the first or second piece of loot I ever got so I don't remember how it works. If it doesn't work the same as the poison trinket it's easily the worst piece of gear in the game.

I didn't know it had innate pierce, that's pretty good.
Mine has a chance to split each shot into two, so it's a great room clearer.
Are you the magic man?

also sorry to @Farangu and Rius. I know the fault didn't lie with any one of us in particular but I was just learning how to use the new shiny rapier I got and was probably not up to snuff. Next time!

Beats me. I just tossed an assorted amount of blue things. I didn't notice a difference opening chest with it though or increased proc chance nonsense. I think it's just a placebo effect.

Normal still kicks my ass, even though I've seen the credits. How do you get ready for Hard Mode?
Honestly you can do hard mode with white gear. Just have a team that understands situational awareness. Play defensively but keep moving, know what to prioritize and when to dodge or push or block. Of course, gear helps a lot anyway.
Unless you're talking solo. Then I dunno.
Btw anyone up for some games? I'm about to get on. steamid is chaceincase.
I would not have thought this was possible, given that you get out of fusion what you put in.
If you fuse five of the same item, yes. You can fuse random items of the same quality into another random item one tier up.
No; if you fuse five random items, the result will be one of those items on the next tier up. It's never random; output is determined by input... or at least that's been the general understanding. I have done many, many targeted fusions and have never gotten a result that I didn't put in in the first place.
I think what's confusing is that if you fuse 5 different things, each is 20% chance of what you put in. IE 1 hammer, 1 mace, 1 bow, 1 repeater, 1 staff only nets you one of the items. But since trinkets can't be fused, it's not even possible to get a trinket. I wish I took a screenshot but that's what popped out.

Good advice. Blue weapons will help a good amount because their damage keeps up with enemy health. In other words, a green/white weapon that will 1 shot rats on normal, will require a second attack on hard. A blue weapon of the same type will keep the 1 shot ability that you have on normal difficulty.

Unless it's slightly less than a twenty percent chance.

You generally get one item out of the types you put in but there is a small chance to get a random item. It is a very small chance.
the stat page for certain weapons seem to be off. I have an orange sword and shield that has the same charged attack speed stat as a blue mace and shield but is clearly faster when I actually test it out.
Also, some hope about the loot system:
I'm really not happy with failing missions over and over because somewhere late in a mission the game throws an Ogre Packmaster Gutter Runner Wombo Combo and wipes my teams out. Its like a cheap shot.
I'm curious how far east they're referencing. Like the stuff going down or about to go down in Cathay isn't likely to ever get brought up, but do they mean Orc and Goblin raids to the east or just general Chaos rumblings in the east.
I'd be down for some new maps in general but even something as basic as re-skinned enemies on new maps would be better. Maybe do that as the free DLC route and the paid DLC be new heroes, since they've mentioned they planned on doing both free and paid DLC. Doesn't split the player base with paid map packs and allows you to buy whatever heroes you want.
I have high hopes on the quality of the DLC, but not so much the coolness of the missions. And its not their fault, they can't really escalate the situation without throwing Chaos into the mix.

I really want to love this game but the loot system turns me off. Especially since there are games like Diablo and Borderlands out there which have proven loot models that aren't ridiculously punitive.

It took borderlands years to make loot not suck as much and D3 was a complete shit show before Loot 2.0. They've also tweeted they're taking a look at loot distribution. Give it some time.

Yes but those games had their loot systems fixed and in place before this game was even released, so I give them 0 points for having to reinvent the wheel.
Don't get me wrong, I have fun when I play with PA peeps, but I don't even think about starting this game up and playing with pubs.

Seems even more useless. :rotate:
No worries Frei!

Totally the hagbane.
I thought Hagbane was crap tier but I have been enlightened how good it is. The AOE in a tight corridor is pretty good too.

Edit: on second thought, I suppose it takes a handful of useful trinkets within the party as well.
