Okay, so it turns out I'm like 3 million cbills short of being able to afford a Mad Cat..
And I guess the Prime version I can get with cbills doesn't have the 30% bonus cbills of the A La Carte version?

I'm not going to lie, still super tempted to grab the a la carte Timber Wolf, despite it being a bad idea..

Those of you from the closed beta might recall how.. very, very often I talked about just wanting a Mad Cat.

Given the state of Battletech technology the Urbie probably couldnt even dent its armor.

The AT-AT would be stomping all over Atlas and Dire Wolves while ignoring anything they shoot at it.

Funnily enough, CGL did an April Fools Day supplement ("Welcome to the Nebula California") set in the far-outer Periphery, where a number of isolated stellar nations comprised of famous IPs battled out their days.

In the "Star Empire" portion, an Interstellar Expeditions deep-space force was said to have found a Star Empire (and requisite Rebellion) that had developed a reasonably-advanced technology base and some novel one-off bits of tech, but was largely lagging behind even typical Inner Sphere technology.

    An excerpt, for your perusal:
    The%20Star%20Empire.jpg

The key, with any over-large assault chassis, is to get behind it.

Ehhh...I haven't found having one ST be a JJ-equipped omnipod to be a hindrance. Now, when both sides are JJ-pods, that's when things get hampered a bit. However, if an asymmetrical build is aesthetically offensive to you, then I can see how that would hinder your builds. Personally, I just think having an ERLL in the CT (which will always be with you until you get cored out) is more beneficial than having a JJ in that slot. I've been disarmed too many times in my TWolf to feel comfortable running around without some kind of backup weapon in a slot that won't go down until the entire mech does.

Clan mechs die when they lose both STs, that's why I'd rather have a jumpjet there and free reign over changing the side torsos, than be forced to have these hardpoints if I want jumpjets via the STs.

The issue is that if you want an energy boating TWolf, there is only one side torso that has energy hardpoints and doesn't have jumpjets. If you lose that side torso, you'll be losing over half of your weapons. If you lose the other arm, you're down to zero energy weapons. Now, granted, in the side torso you might have an LRM/SRM or maybe a gauss rifle...but those are kinda meh fallback weapons.

I played on Saturday and in the group queue it was pretty much normal. Once I went solo it was a really odd bunch of pilots. One even had a DDC with no ECM! That made me cry watching as this Atlas pilot got swarmed by three lights and turned into a LRM pincushion. Managed to kill one light with my fist if doom which caused another to run away but the slaughter was done by then.

I really hate Vitric Forge, and it has surpassed my hate for even Boreal. The Clans can now park whole lances on top of that fucking building in the center and snipe the whole map with Large Lasers. Nothing IS drives actually has enough Jump Jets to get up there, and if you do, your whole mech is packed with Jump Jets instead shit that can actually hurt stuff.

PGI should force themselves to play CW for a full week, including Russ and Paul, 8 hours a day as an anonymous Inner Sphere 12 man in CW. Maybe they'd actually get some viable ideas for the PTS.

Depends who we have to drop with. The past couple weekends we've been losing against pugs cause we didn't have the good drop commanders on. I didn't really have the patience to stick around much. We've got a lot of new players that have their first Thunderbolts, but don't really have the experience to use them.

Its frustrating when you're trying to get people to move up. They're getting shot and just kind of assume they can trade fire cause obviously the Clans can hit them. Sorry, but your 5SS is near useless at 500m. Yeah, one or two of you are going to have to die to get in range, that's just kind of how it is.

They can't really accept it because that doesn't sound fair. Gee, what an idea right?

Russ would play CW as a clan, drop against 1st Hussars and Rabtars Radars twice and lose, and declare everything perfectly balanced.

I'm surprised 1stH isn't holding training drops to whip the new blood into shape.

That is a whole lot harder than it sounds. I think they've made plans to start up some of that, but getting people to go to class before they can play is a lot to ask. Especially for new players that start asking questions like, why should I play IS if I have to get all srs bsn before I can have fun?

That sucks to hear that you guys have a lot of cadets running around. There was chatter on the comm the last time I did a CW that you guys don't have the turnout for training drops even though a bunch of them needed it.

'training drops' don't seem like they need to be anything more complicated than bringing a couple along with a more experienced group; if people are literally at the stage where they don't have a handle on range bands yet, CW might not be the best environment for them

but I dunno, I'm that guy who doesn't like CW much anyway
