Also, it's increasingly annoying that you have to use the stylus to navigate the UI. You have the option of buttons or stylus for the puzzles but not the menus. ANNOYING
Not sure what to think on Pokemon Picross yet. The actual gameplay is pretty decent, I like that the pokemon give you powers. And I've always liked how Nintendo picross games color in the picture when you're done; color picross is a pretty good step up in challenge for this type of puzzle.
But the energy system is hard to tell if it's tuned right. I am pretty good at nanograms so I blew threw the puzzles very quickly, and the recharge time is pretty high in my opinion; currently at 60 energy with max 300 and recharge time is 4 hours. But for people newer to this puzzle style it might be 'fairer' for lack of a better word, and maybe with the Pokemon aspect it's being aimed at a younger audience or something. I definitely do NOT like having to replay boards to complete missions, I don't like doing the same puzzle twice plus you have to reuse energy for a completed puzzle. And something seems a bit off on how it tracks missions; I finished area 2 with 2 missing missions but the tooltip shows there's 6 missing and 1 missing mural piece. I suppose it's possible a new location opens up upon area completion.
It looks like it would cost 28.97 to 'unlock' the game; the shop states you need 5000 purchased (not earned ingame) picrites (game currency) to obtain free picrites. Oddly enough there isn't an option to purchase 5000, there's a 4000 purchase for 24.99, and one time deals for 200 & 800 at .99 and 3.99 respectively. However, it doesn't spell out just what 'you will be able to obtain free picrites' really means so am super leery of putting money into it, and it's certainly not worth 30 dollars to me to play it.
I bought the two one time deals (the same price as one of the Picross e games) and that counter went down to 4000, so it doesn't have to be all at once. I'm assuming that at that point it just gives you infinite picrites so you can unlock everything.
A while into it, you unlock alt-world which is mega Picross from the Picross e series. I think the world overview includes that.

I'm only on Area 3, do later boards have missions that can't all be done in one play?

There's a mythical pokemon hiding in that spot. Just keep playing, you'll get alerted when he shows up.

OK I'm a weak man and I caved, bought in the $30 to unlock. The 'free picrites' is you hit a button to give you 1k more picrites if/when you need them.

So, if I pay $30 that's just full access to the game without any F2P junk?
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Wait, so Paper Jam is out in Europe on Friday, but I have to wait until next year? How far into next year are we talking? Also, why does Nintendo hate NA... more specifically, why does Nintendo hate me?
Nintendo is very anti masturbation so... I'll let you just color in that picture.

Also I'll be honest, I can't stand Dream Team's art style. I miss the beautiful sprites of the previous Mario & Luigi games. This reminds me of a DKC pre-rendered thing which looks tacky to me (I don't think it actually is, but it really *looks* that way).
I'm pretty sure they said the reason Dream Team took so long is because they had to draw all the sprites. Those are just very detailed sprites. Except for the giant boss battles.
I played most of Superstar Saga for the first time recently, and there were definitely a lot more unique or funny little sprite animations during cut scenes.
Shame the last area gets so dickish hard I can't be fucked to finish it.
Apropos of nothing except Paper Jam Bros. coming up soon, I still think I like Superstar Saga better than any of the other Mario and Luigi games, for exactly one reason: the handling of Bros. Attacks. Mario and Luigi have different ones, meaning it actually matters which one whose turn it is, and the attacks take around five seconds to resolve, unless you're talking about the two that are capable of going on infinitely. All the other M&L games just draaaaaaag by comparison.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
I'd like an M&L RPG that doesn't take it upon itself to assume I've never played an M&L RPG and instead actually ask me if I want to view this lengthy tutorial nonsense for this one move I just learned that was already in the last three games in the series so I already know it god damnit just let me play
$30 is way steep. It shouldn't cost the same to buy Pokemon Picross as the rest of the e series combined. I suppose they're pricing it like it was a retail game, but that was a dumb price at retail. The competition here is $5 books that have like 1000 puzzles, VALUE APPROPRIATELY Nintendo.

This is also useful information. I mentioned earlier that I was happy that Pokemon Picross is coming out because I have been wanting to try Picross, and also like Pokemon, but if other games in the series are much better value then I will head there after my free plays on this game start stagnating.

This plate of food is free, but I'm gonna snatch it away every 10 minutes, and hold it for five minutes before giving it back.
How much for you to stop doing that?
$30
... This is a $7 entree.
It's optional though. That makes it okay and not shitty or manipulative.
You're also comparing two different things, as Picross E is bog standard Picross while Pokemon Picross has a ton of extra crap that costs more to create. If you don't think the additional mechanics and whatnot are worth the additional cost then that's fine, but acting like those additional mechanics don't exist is silly.

Good news for you then - you can skip all tutorials in Paper Jam.
There is a bit more to Pokemon Picross than your standard Picross game, but $30 is a little overpriced. I paid the toll, though, and I'm glad I did. I would absolutely hate the game and it's awful F2P garbage otherwise.

Yeah, I really love the QoL stuff they put in the game. And looking at the map list, there looks to be a lot of puzzles. And I just unlocked (well the ability to unlock for 300 points, yeesh) alt-world and mega picross puzzles. Which I can barely get my brain around just doing the training, but I think I finally get it now.
$30 bucks though? Ehh, I dunno. But we're also kind of getting into the discussion of "Should X genre always be Y cost, even if it deserves it or not".
I'm also hitting the point where, unless these points you can get from training ramp up, then the free ride is over. I'm not grinding 500+ points at 10 a day.

This rare pokemon puzzle... I dont even know where to begin to try and solve it.

So I learned if you don't get any badges in 5 turns it gives you a free badge.... *sigh* Sadly.... twice... -_- I spent a whole dollar trying to get Fire Mario on that god damn bomb one and it's just impossible - the crane moves way too fast to position the bomb well and the lips on the platform are too high. But then they just gave me fire Mario at the end. Same with the cape feather, which kept slipping out of my claw over and over -_- (That one was just dumb, I hate the crane sometimes)
The alt-world puzzles are a surprise, I've never seen that element in nanograms before and they're an intriguing challenge
Mega Picross came in in the...second Picross e game? Maybe the third. Since then normal Picross just feels boring by comparison. Once they really start making you use the mega column deductions to solve stuff it becomes very, very interesting. Took me a few games to really get good at it.
Sure, I'll use the scattershot power to reveal a bunch of random squares at the start if you insist. But I'm also going to go back and erase them all before I start solving.
I've also noticed that sometimes they give you extra info by greying out a clue (I assume on accident, cause it doesn't do it consistently)
say you have a 1-1-1 row, and right in the middle you've solved one of the spots and have x's on the sides of it. sometimes it will grey out one of the clues, even though logically it could still be any of the three

I've seen that happen too, but most times I've taken a super close look at it and there's zero doubt it can be there.

I am excited to go home today and play pokemon picross.

Thanks much! Was driving me nuts.
You can run out of energy mid-puzzle, and will be prompted to spend money to continue.
So, if I pay $30 that's just full access to the game without any F2P junk?
You are warned if you don't have enough energy on-hand to complete the puzzle.

I'm sure GameFAQs will eventually have them, but there doesn't seem to be a list yet. Looks like some have popped up, though they're region locked.
