Made a lot of progress in just a single day or so with a couple of my buddies. Went from absolutely new to 27 and a couple missions in to the Taken King.
I don't think the cloak drops from the base version of Dust Palace that I can go into through Mars.
I know they drop from the normal lvl 20 strike playlist at least.
Does that one have taken in it at all?
No, the lvl 20 strikelist is all the old strikes. I've seen the Tanik cloak drop in there, and some of the other strikes that drop gear are only in the 20 list or not at all (looking at you Omnigul.)
Kind of weird that they would drop from that one since they are level 40 items.

I wish the game would grant you light for the level of light gear you have instead of the level currently equipped.
I know, I know, that'd fuck things up, and make Y1 stuff too good; I'm just lazy and get tired of changing out all of my gear before decrypting.
Question though: can you use, say, titan armor to level up the light of Hunter gear? I.E. if I have a 95 titan gloves and want to use it on a 90 hunter gloves, will it work; or does it have to be the correct class?
EDIT: woo dead orbit level 25 rank up gave me a ship! How many "foes" need to be slain for that quest?
I don't know why they didn't just employ the same system that normalized your level to the gear you had going into Patch 2.0. No need to equip, just drop level appropriate gear that when rolling takes into account the light level of gear you have for that character regardless of where that gear is. That way your character's light level is still only based on what you have currently equipped but what drops will help upgrade your character more often. Also would make levelling multiple characters easier as they'd always be receiving high rolled gear appropriate for the character's level.
Is it just me or is the nightfall not really worth doing any more? Legendary/exotic drops not guaranteed, no bonus rep, no bonus xp, nothing really. I think I've gotten maybe one good drop and it was a double of something I already had. Pretty damn sure I got coins once.
Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

I have the quest to do it, but otherwise I think I'll just do it once per week.

It really doesn't feel very useful to do over heroics or even just the 36 strikelist.
Higher chance once a week for legendary/exotic I guess but losing the xp/rep buff is a major downer.

Is it possible that the cloak from Dust Palace can only be gotten on the strike list? I've done the level 20 versions about 15 times and I nor anyone I've run with has gotten it.

No, people have gotten it from going straight to the director, its just RNG and fairly rare. In all the strikes I have done I have had a total of 3 strike specific items drop, two of them the same.

I've been incredibly lucky with certain stuff then. I have three Treads Upon Stars or whatever from Dust Palace but only from doing 36+, I have the helm from the sunless cell, and the hand cannon from the undying mind.

Fuck, it's frustrating fighting a Taken champion and there's one other person and after they die a few times they just stay dead like they're waiting for you to finish it.
Just got a 310 4th Horseman, it seems more or less strictly worse than the Invective I got yesterday though? Same with the Monte Carlo and Zhalo I've picked up. Surprising after how baller Hawkmoon is.

Joined a game of Rift at 5k to 10k, ended up the highest scoring person on the team, and only lost by like a thousand points
Could only carry so hard. Also got killed like two feet from igniting their Rift, so sad.

The 4th Horseman is for one thing only: fights where you can safely get close and just unload everything you have, then run away to reload. It excels in the Court of Oryx for example, where you can easily dump all your ammo in one go.

Wait are you saying the Carlo is worse then the Zhalo, or that the Carlo and Zhalo are both bad. Cause the Zhalo is the opposite of bad.
Secrets, lies, and tragedy. The trifecta.

Don't suppose anyone feels like helping me finish off the Nightfall boss, this has been a real slog solo.

The Carlo is worse than the Zhalo (unless you really like melee, I guess).
Ugh, stuck at 299 light, which makes it feel like there's no way to progress until the raid reset. Oh well.
What's the most efficient way to farm up runes for CoO? The only two ways I've earned then consistently is killing champions in patrols (screw that) or opening chests in the dreadnaught. I suppose pull up a map and farm the latter?
So I ill-advisedly used some mats to level up dead orbit in the vain hope it would drop a helmet for me in the rep packages.
It didn't, obviously.
But it did drop me The Nowhere and Bittersteel shaders. So full set of dead orbit shaders now. Score!
It also puts me 1 rank shy of hitting rank 25 for the exotic cloak quest, so that's not bad really.
Wait, you have to be rank 25 for that quest? Jesus. I already got my DO butt-towel but I think my other two guys are at about rank 14 (for NM and FWC respectively).
I'd say Court or Strikes. Weapons and weapon engrams drop like rain on a cloudy day, it feels like. Put on your dungarees and farm!

4th horseman isn't really an "as you go weapon" you strictly pull it out when you need to delete a yellow bar. The good thing about that weapon is that it unloads so hard and so fast that you can usually get in and do your dirt before any melee fuckery comes into play. Thing was a godsend in PoE and serves the same function in CoO. Its raw dpsis insane.

I had to hit rank 26 for my first shader.

I know it's all anecdotal, but I'm starting to believe that "LL280 to get 290+ gear" stuff. I'm 303 and I can't remember the last time I saw I weapon above 285. I have three heavy weapons in serious need of upgrading.

Definitely the best two places for weapon engrams. You get more weapon parts out of weapons that are full on experience. So if you have extra motes of light, you can farm until you have a blue of each category, equip them, level them up fully (just the experience, not need to buy the weapon perks), then break them down. Make sure to equip armor that needs leveling too, so you get the most out of your motes. If you are really desperate, you can spend glimmer to buy a copy of an exotic weapon you have, then break it down (you recover your exotic shard). It is slightly more efficient than buying a gunsmith green just to break down. This method really isn't worth the glimmer cost though.

It's just RNG, I'm at 300+ now and I've been getting plenty of 290+ blue gear
