Help me find cool bookends

I'm furnishing a new apartment almost from scratch and looking for some interesting bookends to spice up my shelves, but most are either uninspired or prohibitively expensive. Can anyone provide some leads on bookends that are neither?

Definitely nerdy, but trying to keep anything associated with particular fandoms out of the mix. Animals, mythology, generally pleasing shapes.

you might be looking at etsy for stuff like that. Other than that target/walmart will have 'generic' bookends for ya. Pier 1 as well.

Can you give us an idea as to what your budget is?

I was thinking of getting a set of these cheap metal bookends, then gluing Lego base plates to the vertical parts (or maybe the horizontal bits, or both...). Then, I could decorate them however I want whenever I want. Then I realized that I have no space for bookends on my book shelves.

Of course, I'm a nerd who has a good sized Lego collection already, so I don't know if that'd be ideal for everyone's situation.

That's a pretty good idea! I have tons of Lego myself so maybe I'll give it a try. I'd rather not spend more than $30 for a decent pair.

Bookends are just heavy things. Go out to a thrift store and find some heavy things. Spray paint them a colour.

I'd go with horizontally stacked books. Maybe hardbacks that are too tall to fit vertically. Otherwise you're just using valuable space that could be filled with books.

Just get one of the cheap solid metal L shaped ends, then turn it around, cover the vertical part with a book cover. Bam, invisible bookends
