I'm more confused by the implementation of Guard as a product.
Star Fox Guard, out April 22, will be bundled with Star Fox Zero as a two-disc set for $59.99. The titles will also be available as separate downloads on Nintendo’s eShop for $14.99 and $59.99 respectively, with a $4.99 discount for purchasing both.
Like it grew out as a minigame or an internal project that nobody ever developed a market strategy for and now they're just at a loss as to whether it's a standalone game or a weird pack-in minigame or what.
It's like a Crossbow Training without a peripheral, something you add as an enticement to buy a thing you maybe wouldn't buy otherwise - like the free amiibo minigames - except that it's tacked onto a bigger thing you probably buy without it anyway and a small tower defense game isnt exactly a huge value add?

Eh, it was always pretty much a Star Fox thing. People back at e3 were predicting it based on the fact they found Star Fox logos all over the demo.
I'm just more surprised they're treating it as its own game still and not just a bonus-game in SF0.
I wonder if there was a plan at some point to make it like, just an eShop title? *shrug* It's possible it wasn't done until Star Fox Zero ended up delayed so they just decided to bundle them.
I am not terribly concerned by what we've seen of Color Splash thus far. As I understand it, the main objections to Sticker Star were:
- No partners
- Bare-bones plot
- Lack of a progression system rendering battle meaningless
- Thing Stickers (real-world items) being bothersome to restock because you had to manually go back and pick it up (or buy it from the shop)
None of those are inextricable from the idea of having an expendable- or card-based battle system. In fact, with the ink-tank we saw (consuming yellow ink to paint in a hammer), I can easily see a level-up system that lets you selectively expand your limit on whichever basic color you choose, granting a de facto specialization system (more yellow = you can play more hammers before having to recharge, more red = more jumps before having to recharge, etc.). Furthermore, I could also see Thing Cards (like the fan) consuming multiple kinds of ink at once and then just going back into your deck, meaning out goes all that ridiculous backtracking.
EDIT: Ah, the other thing. Given that they had the producer of the Metroid Prime series out to apologize to everyone for making something he wanted to make, I suspect that Nintendo at least hears the internet shitstorms. They didn't put the Federation Force development team on stone slabs in front of a Chozo statue and stab all them through the heart as some people wanted, but they certainly made obsequiences over it. There's a good chance some of the feedback hit sensitive ears in the Paper Mario team.

Otherwise, I'm happy with nearly everything I saw, and when I wasn't "happy" it was just "ah, that's a thing that exists" like with Jockey Solitaire. I'm already buried in RPGs and more are on the way, so I'm happy as a clam.

My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
From what I played of the E3 demo, Project Guard was great. It especially shines as an on-couch multiplayer game with people watching cameras to help the player. And that was way before it got the extra development time. The family should enjoy it.

This was the big sticking (*snicker*) point for me. If this thing does not have a creative and funny plot, I'll be disappointed.
I would also say the whole world was very generic, which sort of feeds into the plot. Very unmemorable. The only part of Sticker Star I really remember was the Sniffit Game Show since it clashed with how boring the rest of the game was. I almost feel like Intelligent Systems snuck that in behind Miyamoto's back or something.
I'll also say - Sticker Star had a serious flaw with the Thing stickers. Namely, very very specific stickers were required for boss battles and you had absolutely no way of knowing beforehand which ones were needed without looking it up. If you didn't bring that sticker with you, have fun losing to the boss. That's shit design right there.
If the game is good, I can forgive no partners. Lack of a progression system is kind of dumb though.
It seems weird that we can't judge something based on a trailer considering, you know, that is is the whole point of a trailer. This is how Nintendo decided to introduce this game after a lot of complaints about the last one, a trailer that, if Nintendo was aware of the problems people had, would be shouting from the roof tops "here is some actual creative characters and ideas! Here are your fun Companions!. Here is a combat system that isn't gimmicky nonsense because much like Sonic Team, as soon as we have the start of something good we throw it out to pretend that we are innovative!".
It is exactly the same problem I had when they introduced Federation Force, something that seemed to show they did not actually understand what the major problems were with the last game.
Edit: sorry about the aggressive tone, I'll leave it in a spoiler so people can skip it easier. I just got irritated by some stuff.
Speaking of Federation Force, I'm still kinda baffled by the "Metroid Prime Universe" rhetoric. Like, what reason is there for doing that? It's not like the Prime games had anything really irreconcilable with the rest of the series.
And those are some of the best games in the series, so I can't see a reason to treat them as a side-universe that doesn't intersect.

Pretty sure it's mostly because the game is in first person like the Prime games.

I have heard that Sakamoto really dislikes the Metroid Prime series for some reason. Like, the impression I got was they weren't "his" stories so they are just some silly things that don't really belong in the "true" timeline or some garbage.
I'm kind of hoping after Other M that his opinion on that matter (and other things Metroid) is being summarily ignored though :P

Nintendo has kind of had a problem with that in general lately.
Hopefully Mario Maker reminded them that Mario levels don't have to end with a flagpole.
Everything they showed of Color Splash looked like the next game in the Sticker Star lineage. You've got Mario, Peach, and a horde of generic Toads who are beset by the game's gimmick and you've got the partner who's the singular new character but also they didn't want to be creative so it's just a fucking paint can. There is literally nothing in that trailer even close to hinting it's anything but doubling down on what made Sticker Star bad.

Like, they could have been clever and made Bowser Jr. your partner. Or at least the brush.
Luckily, thanks to Amazon's Prime discount, it's only $48.
wait what
Amazon Prime gives 20% off game preorders, and they even backdated it to ones you'd made before they started offering the discount, so (for example) Fire Emblem was $64 rather than $80 and your average $60 game is twelve bucks off.
It's not just pre-orders, it extends to two weeks after release
So you can wait for a game to hit, check out reviews and impressions and then get a $60 game for $48
Wut.
Ok, I was already sold on renewing Prime every year until they shove me into a pine box, but that's just unexpected. I know that the Best Buy thing is technically better? But that involves interacting with other humans who are probably bears.

Yeah, I realllly wish they hadn't waited until I cancelled most of my "just in case" Amazon pre-orders in favor of the Best Buy ones :P Amazon = no tax, so it's a few bucks cheaper :P Ah well.
They (Best Buy) had a deal when Pikmin 3 was about to release where you got that and another game at a discount so I pre-ordered it. They proceeded to re-authorize my card every 3 days, and then put the game on backorder when it launched. I had to call, cancel, STILL sit there with a bunch of authorizations, and go into the store and do a pick-up... they had a zillion copies in their brick and mortar stores.
I haven't really shopped at Best Buy since, actually.

They should make a Paper Mario where your companions are Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Rosalina, Wario, Daisy, & Waluigi. They would all have different abilities and different interactions with Mario and NPCs. I guess that is kind of like Super Paper Mario's setup, but this would be an RPG like the first two.

Save Luigi, Daisy, Waluigi for Luigi's weird parallel quest.
I'm ok with the level of graphics in SFZ. I hope they made a bunch of decent levels during the time made available from the delay. What I saw of Fortuna was pretty awesome. Long story short, it looks like a full price game to me.

A Miyamoto side project that couldn't be expanded into a full game, so they just bundled it with another game instead.
At least he used one of his own IPs this time.
Man, I loved Pac-Man versus. Even though we got similar gameplay in Nintendoland, it never quite hit the same highs as that game did for me.
